  1. Hey Everyone!! I'm baaaack!!! Just to give you an update. Simba is now 4yrs of age, will be 5 on 14th August this year. I am pleased to say that he no longer limps on his front legs or has any joint problems at all. He is very healthy and happy. I have recently being teaching him to hold a pamphlet in his mouth as the first step, he then needs to put it into a wastepaper basket, then the distance is progressively increased. He made real progress today when he held the pamphlet, took it outside and dropped it. I was so happy and proud of him I gave him loads of praise!! All of your Sammies are gorgoeus by the way! Here are some pics of Simba you may not have seen
  2. I have my boy on Glucosamine& Chrondroitin tabs and fish oil capsules. Also glucosamine& chrondroitin is in his food. He had a problem limping on his front leg and now he doesn't seem to limp at all. So I think it works. Also it has been proven to work effectively in humans so I suppose it may work as well in dogs.
  3. Thanks for this info. If I can afford it I will definitely attend.
  4. I totally agree, Vi And I always love seeing Mr Charlie and Princess Emmy in photos :) They are both sooo gorgeous!!
  5. She is adorable I can understand why you love her :)
  6. Don't give him treats when he is showing fear or aggression. Only give him treats to reward the right behaviour. Or you will be reinforcing his fear or aggression. In his mind getting the treat is a reward for doing the right thing, if you reward him he will continue to do what he was doing to get a reward. So no never give him treats for unwanted behaviours.
  7. Looks like an awesome movie I look forward to seeing it.
  8. Hey Jessm, Which boarding kennels do you work at? I work at Wellington Park Kennels. You will be coming to our kennels for your practical workshops.
  9. I'm a senior animal attendant at a boarding and training kennel. I have worked there for the past 12 years!! Am also in the process of completing the NDTF Dog Training and behaviour qualification. Proud owner of my 4 year old male Samoyed, Simba Have volunteered at RSPCA (East Burwood) in various areas including Cattery, Kennels, Veterinary Clinic, Cat Sales, Dog Sales, Puppy house, wildlife rescue. Had a go at Veterinary Nursing which has it's good and bad points.
  10. Where is Seabrook? I've never heard of it???
  11. Welcome Crash and Susan Crash is a very handsome boy Curash powder is also supposed to be very good for treating hotspots. My samoyed, Simba had hotspots when he was younger. Back then I took him to the vets and had him on tablets and neocort cream. Also shaved the area around the hotspot. Though this treatment was effective, I wish I'd known about all these other natural remedies back then. I'm glad Crash's hotspot is healing. Great result I live in Victoria, too. Where in Victoria are you?
  12. To end the suffering of potential candidates of dog fighting her solution was to gradually anhiliate dogs that came from a historical breed used for this eg. APBT's, Amstaff's etc. This is beyond disturbing IMO and total bs Through links on facebook I've read many other disturbing things about PETA and I no longer support them or believe that they have the dogs best interests at heart. The fact that they use naked women to gain support further confirms I've made the right decision. There is no need for it. Dogs are classier that those women anyway
  13. I also live in Victoria. But have signed the petition and posted it to facebook. Glad to help
  14. Yeah Simba does this, too. And he's a Samoyed!!!!! I have to force him to come inside where it's cool.
  15. I went yesterday and it was awesome IMO Food and drinks were massively overpriced but you get that every year Got heaps of free samples and met up with a few friends in the animal industry So was a great day.
  16. This story brought tears to my eyes. But, unfortunately is all too common these days. To a lot of people pets are just "accessories". To hear it told from the dogs point of view broke my heart As I would never abandon my boy. I would have to try and find a way to make it work. XXToughgirlXXX
  17. My boy Simba (Samoyed) has red stains on both sides of his muzzle that I think may be caused by him licking the area. However I don't see him do this very often so I'm unsure as to what is causing it. washing the area in whitening shampoo and combing the area have helped reduce the severity of it but I would like to get rid of it completely. Any ideas would be appreciated XXToughgirlXX My boy got staining around the mouth when he had the tear stains. Whats Simba eating? It was the high wheat content that set my boy off. I've recently switched his food from Supercoat large breed to Royal Canin Maxi Sensible. Due to the fact it is a premium food and has glucosamine and chondroitin which helps with his joint problems. But a wheat intolerance sounds interesting, I never considered that. XXToughgirlXX

  19. Hi Linda, I am currently doing the Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training with NDTF. I have to say it is the best course I've ever enrolled in. It is very thorough, the instructors are awesome and really know what they are talking about. They also don't preach about only one method of training being the "one and only" way to train a dog. They say what is best is what method works with the particular dog they are training at that time. I have found the course really enjoyable, so I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in becoming a dog trainer, in the animal industry to gain more knowledge on dog psychology, or just for personal knowledge. Cheers, XXToughgirlXxxx Sarah
