I have noticed my local supermarket stocks a lot of those fresh meat refrigerated dog foods. I'm currently making my own raw meat patties ( and enjoying it I must say) but when I saw these meats the other day I wondered if they were any good.

For all the raw feeders..... Do u think these meat rolls could b used instead of the patties I'm making? ( I would of course feed his daily raw meaty bones on top of it )

I think that these individuals have an ability to read and understand an animals bodylanguage and emotional energy. I personally don't think every one has the ability to be a 'dog whisperer' as I believe some individuals don't have the correct 'energy ' about them. Not saying it's a bad energy, just that i think those 'gifted' folk have a very calming and almost hypnotic presence about them that animals respond well to. Calm but clear if u know what I mean. Just my observations of dog and horse folk

I hav a quick question.... With my boys kongs, If I fill it just with kibble he easily plays with it but it lasts about 5 mins. But if I fill it with kibble and peanut butter to try and make it last longer my boy gives up. I find that the kibble and peanut butter turns into a big ball at the base and he can't get it out. I've got the size recommended for his breed but i wonder if his tongue can't get inside it lol. Anyone else have kong issues??

Oh thank god someone else has posted about digging....... Just got home to find my 4 month old pointer has discovered the joy of digging lol. Did it while I was at work and he was in the back yard.

I've been told by another digger victim that the chicken wire works well. How is it best to lay it?? Do you do only the fence line or literally lay it over the whole yard?

I would love a method that stops this behaviour now rather than let it linger on

also... He has so many toys to play with but isn't interested at all in playing with kongs ( which I hoped would keep his lil brain occupied while I'm out) He plays with it while it's packed loosely and he can get it out easily but if I make it tricky to try and keep him occupied for longer he just gives up.... Any ideas?? ( I've tried the ice block with treats in it but he just leaves it til it mealts then eats the treats..... Who ever said dogs were dumb lol.

Yes I still give him big meaty bones to eat too. I was basically just worried that if I'm using ground chicken carcuses as a mince that I mix vegies with and freeze into patties AND give him big meaty bones then I am essentially giving him masses of RMB with vegies and not a lot of meat. Should I use actual meaty mince to make the patties with or is using ground chicken carcus ok??

Does ground chicken carcuses constitute a raw meaty bone? I have been using it as a mince that I've been adding vegie slop to ( and feeding things like lamb shanks and beef bones etc too) but it just occurred to me that my chicken mince/ minced carcuses is basically a RMB that has been mushed. Should I be getting actual minced meat for the protein source that I mix my vegie slop with and make patties?? Then I could feed the minced chicken carcus as the RMB? I hope that makes sense.

I'm basically making patties with mince and vegie slop and feeding RMBs with it. Does this sound correct?? Man this is confusing and overwhelming but I'm determined to work it out

Just a quick thought. There was a post on here about temperary fencing the other day which had some great ideas. Is it an option to build a fence around a section of the paddock/yard that you can take down when you leave??

It sounds like what u guys do is similar to me. He has an open door so comes in and out as he pleases when I am home.

The yard is fully fenced and there is a huge pergola for shelter and shade ( plus his kennel). I was considering getting a dog door but considering the size he will be when an adult I may as well just leave the door wide open lol. Any dog door is going to be big enough for someone to just crawl Into the house

I should clarify too for those concerned. My dog is 4 months old and I'm very aware of over excercising him. I probably should have made it clearer in my original post.... He gets a play at the dog park every morning whereby he spends about 10 mins running after the other dogs and the rest of the time moping around sniffing etc. ;) he doesn't get full on excercise for an hr, I'm just gone from home that long my vet is happy to allow this for a dog of his energy levels so long as he doesn't jump etc ( which he doesn't).

I work full time and up until now I have been keeping my pointer puppy in the laundry.

I have always had in my mind that I will eventually have him staying outside while I'm working so he can have room to run and play but I keep reading that it's not a good idea leaving dogs in the yard alone. All the talk about them running away or being stollen has got me worried.

Does everyone else keep their big dogs in the yard alone while they work or go out?

I have also been considering building a dog run but do wonder if it's better to give him free rein of the yard as 8 hrs in a run may not be ideal for him.

What do people recommend?? I've always had small dogs who have stayed inside so this is very new to me.

He gets about an hr excercise at the dog park every morning before I go to work. Just playing with other dogs etc. He does wine and stress a little when I leave but has never shown any signs of digging out of the yard.

Any advice??

Oh that's just so sad.

Hopefully her family find some comfort in the fact that she was such a caring young woman who stopped to help a lost dog.

Ok so now I'm DEFINATELY removing dry kibble from my dogs diet and going the way of the barf diet

I wish to try making the patties at home but I can't seem to find any recipes with quantaties (eg X amount of mince, 2 carrots, 1 cup of peas etc etc)

Is anyone able to help me out???

Also, I have a 4 month old German short haired pointer and I really want to ensure he is getting everything he needs in his diet. Are chicken necks, wings , carcuses and lamb shanks a good enough variation for the raw bones aspect of the diet??

someone also once told me it's bad to get the butcher to cut the bone down the center so the marrow is exposed as marrow has a lot of bad fats in it...... Is this actually true??

I know this has probably been done to death but i'm REALLY interested in learning more about this diet. Everything about it makes huge amounts of sense to me.

So..... My boy (4 month old pointer) is currently fed a cup of chicken or turkey mince and a cup of dry kibble morning and night. In the evenings I add a teaspoon of livamol, half a calcium tablet and a teaspoon of stockgain ( this is the diet he was on with his breeder and I have stuck with it). I also alternate the mince with sardines once a week.

Is this a good or bad diet nutritionally?? Would love to hear any helpful advice

Also, How much raw meats/vegi is suggested with the BARF diet per kg of weight? I will do more research on it all and slowly remove the kibble from his diet but just wondered if there was a weight ratio I should follow.

I have a 4 month old Pointer who has finished puppy pre school and is now more than ready for some mental stimulation lol

having competed horses all my life, and knowing that some trainers are far better than others, I can only assume the dog training world is much the same. Hence why I would love inside knowledge of who is good

I'm looking to do basic obedience initially and then starting agility once he is physically old enough.

I'm a newby here and was hoping u may be able to help me.

I have a 4 month old German short haired pointer who is just the most beautiful boy. He is currently kept in the laundry while I'm at work but I am about to start leaving him out in my rear yard. The only concern I have is that he loves to chew on the bark chips I have in my garden beds. It doesn't appear he actually swallows them ( although he may swallow small bits) but he enjoys crunching them up.

Is it unsafe for him to do this?? He has a large amt of toys to chew and play with but still prefers to crunch the bark.

thanks in advance for any advice. If needed I will just remove the chips but I guess I'm not sure if I'm being an overly paranoid mother lol
