  1. I have 3 kids 11, 8 & 5. The 11 yr old is responsible for feeding the 2 dogs & cat & she shares the duty of pooh patrol with her 8 yr old sister. The 8 yr old is responsible for grooming the cat.

I am responsible for walking & training the dogs & also for washing, worming, fleaing etc. Oh & of course paying for them!

The kids had no say in the breed of dog as we had ridgies before they were born. They did however help choose the name, we all voted on our favourite :)

My 11yr old was with us when we pts our girl last year. It was her decision & I think it was the right one. She now understands that being responsible also means that sometimes you have to make really hard decisions. She handled it way better than I & it taught her a lot about grief & death.

We never had pets as children as we lived in a unit, Mum didn't have the money or time either. I am glad we didnt because of those reasons but wow, I love having furkids. We get so much pleasure out of them :)

  2. Hi Missy...don't have a great deal of advice apart from they probably should have not been left alone when you were out!

I separated mine for some weeks as an older dog is far too rough to be left unsupervised with a puppy.

I am sure more there will lots of good advice re what to do, GL!

  3. Sadly, I thought that was the case Mags. Tiff, how much did yours rise?

Stormie, I think the Sentinel rise was more than 10% on PP - I went to purchase yesterday & the price had risen by $47.00 for 2 products!

Any recommendations for both Revolution & Sentinel online please?

  4. RIP Miko & huge hugs to you MissyPriss x

We faced this on 24 March & reading your OP, my heart broke for you.

We, like you, did everything we possibly could to keep our boy here.

Knowing that we did our best, well it kept me sane when I thought the grief would overwhelm me.

Take it easy on yourself x

  5. LOL @ lamingtons!

I change the litter everyday & if I can I scoop out the 'lamingtons' during the day as well

Little bugger gets in there first thing in the morning before I get a chance to clean it out.

Will look at the covered trays as the laundry is the access to the backyard. Not handy to close off with 3 dogs & 3 kids!

Hopefully the pup will be too big to fit in there shortly, however having said that I wouldn't put anything past this little smartie pants.

  6. This is totally gross but our 8 week ridgie has started to eat the kittens poop from his litter tray.

I vaguely remember our old ridgie did it when he was a puppy too but can not for the life of me remember how we stopped it or if he just outgrew it?

Have any of you dog & cat owners experienced this & if so any idea how to stop this?

    TIA

    Lisa

  7. Sadly we did this a month ago.

Our dogs hate going to the vet so we knew it would have to be at home. As far as I am concerned it was the least I could do for my best friend. It broke my heart but this experience was not about me, it was about letting my beloved boy go because he couldn't do it himself.

The euthanasia was the easy part, the hardest part is the decision to euthanase & the gaping void they leave.

I have friends that could not do this but I am glad my boy died peacefully in my arms. It was the least I could do for the 11yrs of love & protection I received.

Love & miss you Tully x

  8. Thanks, never thought of the $2 shop. Will have a squizz there.

We did have kong for our old ridgie but it's been a few years since he was a pup & there are so many durable toys to choose from now.

Sadly he has since passed on but we still have all the bedding, bowls, leads etc....so it's just a matter of getting some toys really for teething. As we still have our bitch, I am hoping the pup won't get too bored & she'll pass on her good manners ;)

Nice looking ridgie you have there Ridgie Didge (nice name too!).
