  1. Without reading all the comments. Anything whether it be a collar, a choker, a halti, harness etc can cause harm if in the wrong hands!! I use half checks and chokers ..i have kind hands so there is nothing cruel about them when it comes to myself or my partner using these 'tools'. OSoSwift - In regards to spurs, that is so true, I have seen first hand horses sides cut and bleeding actually a lady i used to know when i was riding my old horse begged me to get off now normally she is an OK rider well when she got off of my old horse he was bleeding from her spurs, I used spurs when riding him as i was refining his aids and getting him more sensitive to my leg aids as he was a naturally lazy, desensitized horse but I was soft and didn't need to jab into his sides you just softly rub up and down, she never rode my old horse again!! - I am not talking about dressage here, this is western. frothy mouths, most riders think it is because a horse has worked correctly which in fact is untrue, pulled in heads?? if a horse is working correctly the head carriage is natural, pushing up from behind, over the back etc easier said then done of course but it's not rocket science, for me the reins are always decoration, I used to go bridle less and do the same thing as when i had a bridle on my horses, it's great fun too!! I find this all very interesting :)
  2. To think anyone would steal someones beloved dog disgusts me.
  3. Generally most insurers wont cover 'breeding' type related medical expenses. The insurance company I am with cover sudden injury and routine care, in regards to breeding I make sure to have savings behind me to cover things like AI and C-sections.
  4. I'd go straight back to your breeder and talk with them about it, although as mixeduppup wrote there's a very big chance the breeder has their reasons.
  5. I feed black hawk to my dogs and cats. I was feeding my cats Royal Canin but i was not happy with their coat and condition so i switched to black hawk and never looked back. I was always getting compliments at shows from every judge on my show cats condition and my other cats are the same. My dogs are the same, coat, condition etc..all beautiful!! Everyone loves it.
  6. It depends if you want to have a holiday/break and pickup your puppy up at same time. Airfares from Adelaide to Melbourne and return may outweight any potential cost savings by not sending puppy by consigned freight. Passenger Airfare Adl/Mel/Adl is say $65.00 each way so $130.00 plus crate hire $45.00 = $175.00 even before any airline charges for Passenger animal. As consigned freight Melbourne/Adelaide including new crate as a guide is approx $145.00. Also all pets have to be lodged at freight centre at Melbourne which is approx 1.5km away from terminal, so you may require a taxi (or walk 3 km) plus animals must be lodged 1.5-2.0 hours before schedule departure time (whether passenger animal or consigned freight). If you were coming to Melbourne anyway, then there may be a benefit but if you were making a special flying visit then costs of fares etc may outweight any perceived savings. Thank you for the detailed reply, Appreciate that heaps! I rang 1 company today (Dogtainers) and have been quoted $134 including create hire for 10kg from Melbourne to Adelaide.
  7. I can vouch for Petplan, I have used it for my dogs, cats and horse..with no problems :)
  8. I am also curious without making another thread. I am bringing an Aussie shep pup from Melb to Adel ..I was wondering if it would be better to fly to Melb then fly back the same day and have the puppy as extra luggage? Or just use a company to bring him here to us?
  9. I use Petplan, have for a few years, I have used it for my dogs, cats (i show cats) and my horse when i had him. Had no problems.
  10. XL Snooza bed! http://www.pookinuk.com.au/snooza-d1000-dog-bed-biscuit.html Had it for 2 years, it's been through so much, never a hole, never a mark.. it's still the same! :)
  11. Our old dog was fed Optimum puppy food and when we picked him up he had the worst poo and stunk! Not to mention he was covered in fleas.
  12. Bonnie adult complete is what we feed here with excellent results! For the rescues and previous show dog. I also feed raw.
  13. I thought you couldn't get a dog desexed under the age of 6 months? this is what our vet has said? I got my bitch done at 1.5years, the male rescue was done asap and he is 4, the new rescue needs to be done but we are in a couple weeks.
  14. If Zarly isn't trying to break into the house they have free access to the backyard. I cannot leave my back glass door wide open with the screen door locked.. I have to have both closed, SHE WILL open the unlocked door and give her and the other two full access to the inside of the house! The new boy isn't house trained.. so he was marking his territory all up my chairs and lounge! Oh well, all clean now and lesson learnt, 3 times.
  15. Marakai and Suushi came with their names, rescues. Zarly was named, I made it up.. I love weird names :)
