  1. Thanks for your replies, I am going to get some dirt and turf tomorrow and do some patching up, I can section him off down the back (still plenty of room) and if damage happens there its not in direct eye sight. He does have a sand pit and he loves digging in it - sand flies everywhere but I think he just likes the dirt as well, he has found something good for him and annoying for me! If it was my own house it wouldnt bother me so much. He gets an hour of training in the morning and night time -not always in 1 solid block but 10-15 minutes here and there and he has a whole stack of toys which get rotated. He has chew toys, ropes, kongs, everything but chewing hasnt really been an issue (aside from my pants!) will see how we get on with the patchwork lawn!
  2. ok so i put poop in a couple of the bigger holes then took the kids to school, came home and wow look a new hole! he looks so proud of himself! grrrrrrr. anyway will go to bunnings tomorrow and get some dirt and lawn roll and try patching it up. I may section him off the part of the lawn down the back that is around the corner so you cant see it unless you go round there as the landlord never seems to walk around that part just looks out the back door. And that is currently where all the holes are! There seems no pattern to his digging, they are just in total random spots all over the yard, and the hard part is i havent actually caught him doing it, i just find the holes and then you can see him thinking "uh oh i probably shouldnt have done that"
  3. My 6 month old border collie has been problem free ever since I got him until last night. This morning I woke up and went outside and he has dug 6 decent sized holes in the perfectly manicured lawn and pulled off 2 pairs of pants off the line and shredded them. The clothes I can deal with later but lawn is a problem. I rent my house and I was told I could have a dog provided it did no damage to anything. The landlord had laid new beautiful turf a few weeks before we moved in and seeing as we have a large backyard it would have been quite expensive. I know that they will not be impressed (neither am I!) that there are all these holes in them now. They are the size of dinner plates or bigger and go past my ankle if I put my foot in. So now I need to damage control it, the landlord is due for an inspection in about 4 weeks, whats the best way to fix the lawn in the meantime. Should I fill it with dirt and put grass seeds in to grow or is there a better way?? Also bailey has multiple toys and is walked twice a day so total about 1.5 hours plus at least that again playing and training in the yard. I'm just worried that the landlord was specific the dog didnt wreck the lawn and now he has and we may have to move
  4. I dont think its heartworm I am so vigilant with heartworm, worming, fleas and ticks, vaccinations etc, he probably gets more attention than the kids some days!! Havent heard any other coughs today or tonight, but will keep an eye on him, thanks so much
  5. but he has heartworm prevention?? maybe i should take him to the vet tomorrow anyway
  6. Very weird but I havent heard him cough at all today! Although its not windy today either?? he has been doing lots of zoomies and running around and even went for a walk earlier, he's been asleep all the other times and havent heard 1 cough. Do you think it could be related to the wind yesterday or is that a dumb idea? and it maybe still is kennel cough?
  7. Yes it does only sound like a dry irritating cough, I put my stethescope on him and couldnt hear any wheezes or crackles in his lungs and his respiratory rate isnt elevated either. where do you buy manuka honey from? can you get it at the supermarket?? if he gets worse it'll definately be off to the vet.
  8. Ok so tonight I noticed Bailey was coughing a bit, at first I thought it was due to all the crazy wind in Sydney but when I brought him inside he kept coughing. Not huge coughing fits but 1 or 2 every 15-20 minutes or so. I checked his mouth to see if he was choking on anything - no. He is still drinking and eating normally and running around like a lunatic. He was boarded in a kennel for 3 days last week whilst I needed to have some surgery in hospital. He is up to date with all his vaccinations but I'm wondering if it could be kennel cough. What does kennel cough sound like? and would it take this long to show symptoms?? he has been home for 1 week now. Also can he wait to go to the vets until monday? my normal vet is closed tomorrow but if needed I could probably try one who is open on a sunday thanks
  9. Is it too late to order one?? If not how do I order one?
  10. You have inspired me to try and get photos of Bailey chasing the hose! Might have to rig up the sprinkler and try and get shots that way! Love the pics of the doggies chasing the hose!! Yep definately lost his brain for whatever time is hose time
  11. just butting in - where would one buy a clicker?? Bailey is treated with food and responds brilliantly, what is the clicker for and how do you use it? Does it become a replacement for the food??
  12. im interested to see what Bailey's reaction will be once I take him to the beach in summer!
  13. He seems to only have interest in the hose when its on. He ignores it at all other times, its hanging on a hanger off the brick wall and he never goes near it but once its on, wow! he comes alive!! So far no destruction, only a wet doggy so fingers crossed
  14. i have one of those sprinklers, might bring it out in summer!! if i could hold the hose and my camera at the same time....
