  6. You can imagine how relieved we are. Hubby and I went out to dinner tonight to celebrate. We were sooooooooooooooooo worried.
  7. Results finally came in this morning. It was a BENIGN CUTANEOUS HISTIOCYTOMA Otherwise known as a button tumor. The kind you want to have if your going to have a tumor at all. Great news for Louis and we are very very relieved and happy. Just one more week with stitches and a bucket on his head and he will be back to normal in no time
  8. Oh judy he's adorable. How old was he in that photo? Dobby's ears have both flopped forward, will they stand up right some day?
  9. That's good news Judy Hope he improves for you quickly. he sounds like a such an adorable little fellow
  10. Thank you all for your support. It really does help to know that people care. Inevitablue, I will wait for the path result and let you know. I will be keen to explore all options if needed, will just wait for the path result. Hopefully will have them tomorrow night or Thursday. Louis is recovering well from the surgery itself. He's not loving the bucket on his head though, but he's ok about the crate rest, he loves staying in bed near the heater an these cold days (and who wouldn't)
  11. Ok, so the report so far is that by the FNA we could neither deny or confirm if it is a MCT. There were a few odd cells in there but nothing that SCREAMS MCT. So we removed the lump with as much margin as possible and have sent it off for histopatholoy. Hopefully the results will come back ok. Worst case we need to go back and take the leg....but we're not jumping the gun on that one. For now he is home with a bandage and a bucket on crate rest.
  12. Just keep in mind that if the luxating patella is anything more than what they classify a Grade 1 then you are predisposing your dog to arthritic changes at a very young age which are irreversible and painful. I would find out what grade the problem is and deal with it earlier than later. Also most of the time the other leg will have the same problem but may not present at the same time. I am watching my Dobby very closely for this as it is very common in Chi's.
  13. Thank you. Tomorrow is the big day, will get some answers hopefully of the good kind.
  14. Thanks Rappie We are doing a FNA in the morning. I am a Vet Nurse so we can do it all in the one day. FNA and then depending on findings straight into Sx.
  15. I agree that a good diet will help as far as general joint health goes. That goes without saying, however it will NOT repair damage done nor FIX the problem. In any case...I really hope the little mite improves
  16. I'm a vet Nurse and I spend a lot of time time in Surgery pulling bits of cooked bone splinters out of dogs intestines. For me that's all the proof I need.
  17. Thank you sooooooooooooo much for your well wishes. It really means a lot when the chips are down. Louis is a wonderful happy little dog and he deserves tom be. He didn't have a very happy start to life but has been spoilt with us ever since. We're very worried but also hopeful as the lump only appeared maybe 3 days ago. Only worry is that usually with a MCT the surgeon likes to take about 3 cm's of clear margin. This lump is on the hock...there are NOT 3 cm's to take. Bit of a worry.
  18. Most vets can fix a luxating patella with surgery. It should not require a specialist, however you DO need a vet YOU trust and communicate with well. If you didn't feel things were explained to you maybe call them and ask for more detail. Surgery is the ONLY thing that will fix this, a good diet is important in any dog but it will have NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER on your dogs condition. If after you have called your vet and asked for more information you are still not happy with the diagnosis or understand what is happening then I would definately seek a second opinion. Luxating patella (in my opinion)is fairly a fairly straight forward diagnosis, but then I nurse for a vet who sees these all the time. We probably fix on avarage one a fortnight at least.
