Beautiful  sending you some Gigi cuddles from across the country... :champagne:

  2. Hi there Harminee, I've tried to make some sort of dedication to Luna myself, but just can't seem to get it right. She was from my first litter of kittens, born in my lap and slept on my neck for her whole 6 days... But like the moon, even when I can't see her for the daylight I know she's there waiting for me... If you could find some time to make a simple portrait of my Luna I would appreciate it forever...

  3. If it wasn't cats, they'd break in to backyards and steal dogs, or shoot cats through their runs...

I know I'll get shouted down, but I live in a cat friendly street, one next door has three cats and the other has a new kitten... my outdoor cats and their's like to gather and watch the fish in next door's pond... all are desexed and vaccinated and microchipped. You can't stop accidents from occuring and sickos will be sickos...

actually, when a friend of mine got burgled they took her indoor jack russell... still to this day haunts me.

  4. Name: Bethanie C Levarre-Waters

    Age (optional): 24

    Location: Penrith, NSW

Rescue Group: Have fostered for Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption, Shine, and have had help rehoming with ACDR, currently prefer privately fostering.

Time in Rescue: 6 months :(

Who can vouch for: I have met Ozsomerset, K9 :) , Lovemesideways, and sharnie69 in person. LMSW, Ozsomerset and Sharnie69 have been to my house on several occasions. I have had long chats and fostered for Laika (Beth Shine). I have used k9 :) 's clause 16d. And have received generous donations from SAAM, Hollys Mummy, Lisa Ann, Sheilaheel02, and Ozdogs- sorry if i have forgotten anyone or mispelled :D who have in return received news and photos of those they've helped rescue :o

Preferred Breed: Kelpies and Keeshonds (but really prefer oldies, timids and anything smaller than "huge" :shhh::eek:)

Experience (if any): Have fostered and re-homed two cattle dogs privately, am currently fostering two kelpies, two male cats, and a mumma cat and her newborns kittens. I have three cats and three dogs of my own... see my thread

Microchip: Yes! And Lifetime Registration Always!

Vaccination: Yes, c5 for all my and foster dogs. We have a cat flu house, as Tuffy has it, only cats with cat flu history will be fostered here for fear vaccines won't work. All cat fosters will still have their vaccinations.

    Desexing: YES!!!!!

    Heartworm test: Only if required.

    worming: Canex and Valueheart

    flea treatment: revolution when needed

vet work: definitely if required, I use Penrith Veterinary Hospital and am well known and respected there.

    basic training/teach manners: definitely.

house train dogs: Mostly outside dogs or open doors. Will litter train kittens/cats.

Dogs inside the home or outside: mostly outdoors, they have a whole granny flat set up, although they get daily walks and stimulation and are allowed indoors if need quarantine or vet treatment. In summer the doors are open so they can come inside as they wish. Usually stay outdoors though on their beds.

Are you prepared to give extra care for a submissive nervous dog. definitely, I have my own submissive dog and enjoy the challenge of building confidence in fearful or submissive dogs through walks, training and treats.

  5. My sister's uppity husky shep cross is nicknamed the fun police and always poo poos when my young staffy is zooming around with a toy in her mouth but every now and then we catch her chewing on one of them or playing tug with the staffy and she looks at us as if to say "oh just get over yourselves!"

AHAHAHAHA  She sounds like a CAT!

  6. I'm sorry it turned out to be so serious, I was just going to suggest my cat got really stressed out a while ago and didn't eat for a few days, only sort of looked at his food dish, then I took him to the vet and they put him on xanax because it makes them calm and hungry. Sometimes when an animal hasn't eaten for a couple of days they can then become too nauseas to eat. The xanax really helped, only needed it for a day or two and he started eating regularly again.

Fingers crossed for this girl that she pulls through.

  7. While I would of course like to try to work through the problems myself, I'm worried about the behaviour our puppy Elbie is displaying when in the car. He gets very excited and anxious in the car. He is calmer when not strapped in - but that's just dangerous. When we strap him in i.e. hook a strap from the seatbelt buckle through a loop on his car harness, he totally freaks out. Today, we didn't have enough treats with us in the car and he started snarling and growling, turned extremely aggressive and started trying to bite me. It was a very freaky change in personality. Once out of the car, he was calmer again although he's been a bit on edge since - biting his bedding and when we tried to end playtime, he bit at my OH's arm (albeit through a thick hoody).

Can anyone tell me what sort of things one would expect when you ask a behaviourist to help you work through aggression/fear issues with your dog? Generally how often would you meet with the behaviourist in a week? I realise it depends on the dog, the owners and the severity of the problem, but I just have no idea what to expect.

    Thanks very much in advance!

I saw a behaviourist for my dominant aggressive dachshund Bubbi. The behaviourist took his lead and almost instantly Bubbi went berserk biting squealing growling spitting and the behaviourist just kept tugging the lead and making Bubbi heel. Basically, the behaviourist let Bubbi get out all his aggression/frustration until he was calm. The dog can only stay in that state of mind for a time until he has to come back down again. So hopefully the behaviourist will pick out what is really causing the aggression/anxiety in your pooch and help him get it all out. The behaviourist will also work on your energy, maybe now you are anxious in some way when strapping him in, but you don't realise it etc... Do try and take some videos/pictures/write descriptions of tail position/words you use/voice you use/clothes you wear etc in relation to this issue to help the behaviourist figure out potential triggers. They will probably do exposure therapy (like when people have phobias) building up to the actual strapping it, or if its a problem with you, it might be as simple as him/her taking the dog up to the car and just strapping him in (the behaviourist makes a different dog happen because they are different people with different energy).

It should be an absolutely amazing experience that will help you with any future problems. You shouldn't need to go more than once or twice if they are good and you follow up on instructions. I honestly believe its about energy and a short rehabilitation is all the pooch needs to get over his fear. Maybe you should also buy a soft muzzle just in case he is a bit bity on the day.

Let us know how it goes.

BTW my behaviourist was Ravi Wasan of featheredfriends.com.au and had an amazing rate for rescue orgs.

  8. Just read from start to finish... you're an :) K9! It was like watching a flower bloom before my eyes! :( Thankyou so much for sharing your story and pics of your fur(and real)babies! You have such a gorgeous family! So fun to see them all getting along

Hope the shuffling has slowed down... with two cattles, a kelpie, two keeshonds and an aggressive dachshund, my shuffling has only just begun! You give me hope to not just

  10. I am biased, but I have two keeshonds! Both need little exercise, one can barely trot down the street and back but loves the smells, they are not big barkers, only to warn of new arrivals! they have a coat, but are not big shedders, they just need a quick brush every couple of days with a slicker brush- under the chin, around the neck, along the sides and up the rear legs, done in 1 minute! They are medium sized, get along with other dogs, They are affectionate but not really lap dogs, very loyal and great for first time owners, have never had any problems or heard of anyone else having any! Please consider

On the Dol Breed Pages there was one mature dog available from a rep. breeder in SA looking for a home, but appears to no longer be listed. There are puppies available in Tasmania (from show breeder) and in SA through:

  11. I'm so sorry! That's such an awful thing to have happen!

Don't just rely on the ranger though, Place large DANGEROUS/VICIOUS DOG posters with any sort of description you can remember around your street, and wait for an owner to come to you! This should also warn neighbours to keep their dogs adequately confined! Most dog attacks happen within the home, or close to a wandering dogs home, according to this survey:

    http://www.ccac.net.au/issues/Dangerous_do...tes,_aggression

An interesting read which makes me think you may see this dog again!

I don't recommend sticks or sprays etc myself because this just intensifies the aggression and may cause the dog to attack you. You are no help to your dog if you are bitten too. It has to be about your awareness and confidence. I would highly recommend taking your traumatised puppy to a training class just to make sure they don't become too fearful or even aggressive themselves as a result of this attack.

    This advise:

    from http://www.fightingboxing.com.au/learn-how...op-a-dog-fight/

NEVER put your hand near the head of a fighting dog

NEVER under estimate the real possibility of being bitten by your own dog, if he becomes embroiled in a fight.

Remember, during a fight your dog is in his world, a world where force and aggression is used to settle disputes. Your dog may be loyal and loving normally, but once embroiled in a dog fight, may take a snap at you when you least expect it.

NEVER try to stop two dogs fighting by yourself, even smaller dogs can inflict nasty wounds.

DON’T shout, scream or hit two fighting dogs, especially if they are involved in a serious fight, as this could cause the fight to escalate.

DO always have your dogs lead at hand in case you need to use it as a safe method of parting him from another dog during a fight.

Finally, have never used myself, but may make you feel more comfortable if a strange dog is around etc... Will affect your dog too but may deter strange dogs first!

Good luck, and I'm so sorry again this happened to you! I hope Misty is ok.
