  1. I was reading up on weight guides for Golden Retrievers and came across a thread about what food to feed them (puppy or adult). I read that most switch them earlier to prevent them from growing too quickly. I am now quite worried that I have done damage to her She is 6 months 2 weeks old and still on puppy food. I did my research before we got her but all of a sudden she is 6 months old and I had forgotten. I really hope I haven't caused her any harm What does everyone else think?
  2. griff, thanks. I will try them too. It's very hard! I have also contacted a lady in the same suburb as me selling a 2 berth one. I can only try!
  3. Oh ok. I will contact them and see. Thanks!
  4. Thankyou so much but they are located in SA. I am in Sydney
  5. Hi everyone, We are going to dubbo on Saturday for 4 nights. We were relying on our new car to accommodate the dog but there has been a delay and we won't get it until we come back! So I am desperately after a place that hires dog trailers. Google is not coming up with anywhere Our dog is a 5month old Golden Retriever so we would only need a small one. Does anyone know where we could hire one in Sydney? We are located in north/west Sydney (hills/blacktown). Thanks
  6. What a sad thing to have happened Thoughts are with you and your family.
  7. Scarlett Dog- That would be even more painful!
  8. CW EW- Ouch! Stonecutter- Yes, she is gentle with mouthing but we yelp when she mouths us or our clothes and that stops her. We then redirect her to her toys.
  9. We were playing with the hose and somehow she got two of my fingers. She drew blood too. Damn it hurt! Lol.
  10. Thanks heaps everyone. Looks like it might be trial and error. Pretty miss Emma- Yes she wees on command
  11. dandybrush- Thanks for the advice She is getting 50/50 with the food at the moment but I will change it back to less of the Advance. Does the switching process generally take about 1 week?
  12. Our puppy is 10 weeks old. Now before I start I want to mention that I don't expect her to go all night without toileting. The first night she woke around 3-4 times, 2nd and 3rd nights she held on for 6.5hrs both nights! The next 4 nights she woke once, Saturday night she went 6.5hrs again. And last night she was put out at 11pm (like usual) and then woke at 1am, 2am, 3:30am. All times doing a poo and wee. We are in the process of changing the brand of her food over (from pedigree to Advance). Could this be the cause of it? Also, her last feed is at 8pm. Should we make it earlier? She tends to leave most of her pooing for at night! Her poos vary in consistency buy the majority of the time it's softer. We were hoping the change of food would help her stools to firm up and hopefully make her need to poo less (better quality food). She is also eating grass at times. What does this mean? ETA she also tends to squat a while before she can do anything and changes spots frequently during that pooping session. But her poo isn't firm.....
  13. Readysetgo and Hugo- Thanks she has mainly had chicken mince and has had beef mince once. I won't give her the beef again. The chicken necks are chopped up. Diet is the original from breeder (the beef mince wasn't fed but was in the food guide she gave us).
  14. Yes Lily's smells alot too and varies in consistency. (ahh what a lovely topic )
  15. Our Golden Retriever "Lily" has been with us for 1week and poos Soooo much! I have read that supermarket food can cause this because they don't absorb it as well..... When can I start mixing a different food into her existing one (pedigree puppy)? I was thinking of switching to Royal Canin. Does this sound ok or do you recommend something else? (she also gets chicken necks and chicken or beef mince). Thanks
  16. Loving all the photos! And WhiskedAway, what a clever girl Halo is Well, we have been ignoring Lily's whining and she is getting heaps better! We have also taught her to sit, sit before we throw a toy, and today she has mastered drop! And we have only had her for 6days, lol We start puppy preschool tomorrow which goes for 4 Saturdays in a row.
  17. Yep, we do this too She is being taught to be outside on her own and also has sleep time in her crate. She whines but we ignore her and the whining has become less. When we play with her and she gets wound up, we randomly stop, put our hands on her and calm her down. Roman- Great ideas there too. Thanks Leelaa17- LOL, atleast it is a cheap obsession
  18. Some great ideas already! Thanks I forgot to mention that I have given her toilet rolls and paper towel rolls which she has now lost interest in LOL. But I might try hiding the kibble in there
  19. We have a 9 week old Golden Retriever puppy and so far we have entertained her by: Retrieving games with her toys/balls Teaching her sit, and we are working on drop. Teaching her to sit before we throw her toys/balls for her Running with the ball kicking it while she chases us. Playing with her tug rope Entertaining herself with an empty plastic bottle. And today I gave her a kong with a little vegemite in it. She seems to be getting bored with some of these (we have only had her for 4 days ) so I am looking for more ideas so I can change things around a bit. I am after games we can play with her and also things that she can do on her own (we would like her to learn from the start that we aren't always available for playing and that she needs to entertain herself for some of the day). Also, when do I get her use to the lead? Thanks
  20. Stonecutter- Gorgeous photos WhiskedAway- Glad to hear it passes quickly. Although that said Lily slept from 11:30pm until 5:50am again Kitteh- Love the photo, hehe.
  21. Jakemon- That's great! How long did it take her to get to this stage? Was it just recently that it "clicked" with her or has it been a few weeks? Just wondering what time frame I am looking at (provided I am persistant and consistant)
  22. Jakemon- Thanks for those tips and game ideas I am new to all of this so was just checking that it was all normal and I was doing the right thing Our backyard is safe but I was more worried about annoying the neighbours (although during the day most are at work I believe). I'll give the outdoors thing a try this afternoon.
  23. Hi everyone, Well we brought Lily home on saturday with no troubles. The first night she woke us twice for toilet breaks and last night she went 6.5hrs. So that was pretty good (I am not holding my breath though!). So far it's going ok. She whines and barks a bit (mainly when we aren't right near her) but I expect this to be normal. It's a huge change for her after all. I feel like I have a newborn again, but this will pass too
