  1. How do I go about entering an ET?

I would like to do the Rottweiler Club one.

I own an Aussie Shepherd though..

(sorry, never done one before so not sure whether other breeds/non members of the club are allowed)

Hi, most ET's are open to all breeds. You are more than welcome to enter with an Aussie Shepherd. Requirements are that the dog is registered with the VCA, and you and any handler are a member of the VCA. Make direct contact with the club for entry details or see the schedule on the Facebook "Endurance Test ANKC" group site.

  2. An update on ET's happening this year...

    Victoria:

30/5/15 Hungarian Vizsla Club of Victoria

    06/06/15 Rottweiler Club of Victoria

20/06/15 German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria

12/07/15 American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Victoria

15/08/15 American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Victoria

    NSW:

    12/07/15 Grafton Dog Club

    09/08/15 Dogs NSW

Please send through details if you know of any more (Australia wide).

Club Secretaries are welcome to publish their Club's ET schedules and details on the "ENDURANCE TEST ANKC" Facebook page.

Facebook search "Endurance Test ANKC" to find it and join.

  3. Abbiestar, it must be getting close to starting the ET 2015 thread :D

I've already put an entry in and I am chomping at the bit.

Haven't done an ET in quite a few years and am super excited

Great to hear! There is an Endurance Test group on Facebook now which is gaining momentum.

Facebook search "Endurance Test ANKC" to find it and join.

Also, delighted to announce that the Rottweiler Club of Victoria is hosting their first ET in June, and have invited me to judge!

  4. So if I'm doing ET next Sunday is it ok for me to do the vet check during the week next week?

E+H we must be doing the same one? Laidely? Although I'm not doing it with my girl my OH is lol :o

Yes it is. The vet check must be within the two weeks prior to the date of the test.

Do Not overtrain. Rest your dog for the two days prior to the test.

    Good luck,

    M

  5. A week and a half until our ET in Grafton :)

My training has been upset somewhat by a car accident that I had that injured us humans, dogs weren't in the car thankfully. I think I should manage to ride the 20kms, my husband is a DogsNSW member in case I need him though.

Apparently it will be a very small test too.

    Can't wait!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you are OK to do the test. Enjoy the day!

  6. Please don't think I was questioning your decisions as a judge, because that is absolutely not the case. I am questioning why that rule is in place, especially compared to obedience as I mentioned. To me it would make more sense to check the bitches at the initial health check, and then not again. What if it upsets a male who then doesn't pass? I think there is much more chance of a male being upset about a bitch in true season belonging to the general public who has peed on the course, or even being walked around the course during the ET and there's absolutely nothing stopping that from occurring. As much as we do to condition and train our dogs for the ET, there will always be factors beyond our control that could throw a spanner in the works, including imjuries, interference from outside dogs, etc and I really believe that a bitch coming into season during the test is a very big risk factor at all.

No, I don't think that at all! :)

I understand exactly what you are saying. I guess it is just part of the vetting process and unfortunately the rules state that a bitch in season cannot compete. Very true about the public. One aspect of which we have no control.

  7. I can't stop thinking about the poor dog and handler (I think it was CC?) who's dog vetted out due to coming into season after the second leg vet check. Its terrible luck but the more I think about it, the less I can understand why dogs who come into season during the test have to be disqualified? That early on in their season, there would be very very little chance of it upsetting entire male dogs and of course its of no detriment to the bitch herself. At obedience trials, you are vetted at the beginning of the day and you can trial several hours later without having to be re-checked. Why are endurance trials different, does anyone know?

ET's are not different. It is just that the vetting process is an ongoing process during the event, not like obedience where it is a once off check prior to participating.

i felt terrible having to disqualify that entrant, but I have to follow the rules. What would happen if the bitch in season DID distract another dog that consequently failed? It's a tough call.

That entrant, and another that was disqualified due to her dog's pad becoming torn and bleeding both showed true sportsmanship in accepting my decision/ruling and both stayed to the end to see the successful entrants be awarded. They are both to be commended.

  8. Enjoyed the ET today - it was my third one! My girl Questa and my sisters girl Xilla both passed.

I've sent off my entry for the amstaff club ET in august and hopefully my young girl can be trained up with the bike in time. She's super fit already but also big and strong so I'm a bit nervous!!

Here's Questa and Xilla after the ET today

They did appear to enjoy themselves. And they did work so well for you. Well done!

  9. Good luck to all entered in the GSDCV ET next Saturday.

Weather says "Melbourne area. Areas of morning fog about the outer suburbs. A partly cloudy day. Winds north to northwesterly and light increasing to 20 to 30 km/h during the day."

    Partly cloudy. Max 16.

Looks promising. It will be great day.

  10. Any news on a QLD ET this year?

  11. Question! :D can I use a normal show entry form for the ET? I'm in NSW, I googled and found a Victorian Performance entry form but is there a NSW equivalent? (I've never seen one)

I've filled it out, just want to check that it's right and then send it off!

Did anyone here pass their ET at the Dally Club one? (I'm FB friend with some club people who run it so saw that it was on!)

As far as I know, you can use any ANKC approved entry form. Should be fine.

Have not heard any results from Dally Club.

  12. Shame to hear about ET's being cancelled. This is most likely caused by people not entering these events. If we want to see these events Continue it is very important that they are well supported.

Please give some thought to entering these events and encouraging others to do so. This way the endurance test will be around for many many more years.

  13. Isn't the Sporn harness one that tightens when the dog pulls? If so I doubt it would be allowable.

I agree with this - I don't think it would be allowed. I took one of mine on a Julius K9 harness which worked well for her

Just done my entry for the GSDCV ET and really pleased to see another in Vic in a few months. I've got a very fit young girl who isn't 2 until July so that's perfect for her! Can I do 2 ETs in one year though?!!

    Of course you can!!! :)

    M

  14. Ok I have a question that my contact couldn't answer 100%. I just realized that you can use a harness in the trial, and as I have a Sporn harness, I'm wondering if that's allowable? I couldn't see it excluded specifically in the rules:

"The dog must wear a fixed collar or suitable harness. No neck chains, slip collars, spiked

collars, muzzles or head control collars shall be permitted."

but I don't want to break the rules. Can anyone answer specifically?

    thanks

Great you have all the info. Wishing you luck for the test.

Not too familiar with the sporn harness, but think it should be allowable as long as it is a fixed harness.

  15. When ET is run at kcc where does the route go? I'm struggling with training and am starting to think I should just head there to do it but would like an idea of the path followed.

I would like to know this too, Pretty Miss Emma.

We are in need of a training partner or two, so could we possibly meet at KCC Park for a run together?

I think the only club that uses KCC now is the Rottweiler club. They are hosting their inaugural ET there this year.

The Vizsla Club have moved their ET to Springers Leisure Centre, though have used KCC for about nine years in the past.

Maybe check with either or both clubs as to what the current route is.
