    Samoyed

Anyone know of a good raincoat suitable for male Samoyeds, one is normal size and the other is kinda huge (for the breed).
  2. What area of Sydney - Sydney is a pretty big place! Eastern suburbs? There is a barkbusters in the area, but reviews are mixed about them.
  3. That is a shocking story Sadly by the time I had read it, our dog was already there. We got him back safe and sound though. Results of training. Total failure. His one and only method is yell and pull really hard on a choke chain. Looking for a dog behaviourist in the sydney area, as the K9 people are just too far away.
  4. Could anyone give me a ball park figure on cost per day/hour etc? I know they'll differ, just some idea of the general range would be very useful.
  5. Thanks everyone, especially falconrange, ness and dasha for clarification on the prong collar. Sounds like Steve is the way to go. That sounds like exactly what we need.
  6. THanks for the suggestions guys, these are trainers you've individually had experience with? Wow Steve at k9pro recommends a prong collar? That is a surprise, not sure I'd want to go that route.
  7. We're having a lot of trouble with one of our samoyeds. Despite getting frequent walks he is very destructive and has huge separation anxiety. Can anyone recommend a good dog trainer/behaviourist in the Sydney area? We're in Coogee.
  8. Hi, I'd really like to hear some opinions/experiences of John and sydneydogtraining.com.au Has anyone here had a dog there?
  9. Does anyone have a large size that their dog didn't like that they'd be interested in selling? Looks like the perfect toy for my dog but it is very expensive.
  10. No idea if the little dog is ok, was anyone else there and know more about it? Happened around 6:30 this evening (Wednesday) on Belmore Road in Randwick, NSW. It looked like the owner had dropped the leash somehow, not too sure what happened. I only realised when I saw a man in a suit(not the owner) sprinting down the road (other side of the road to me) as he tried to catch the dog before it ran onto the road. Didn't get it in time sadly but he still ran out into traffic anyway and got him before he got hit again. Not 100% sure the dog was hit as it was barking a lot but not an in pain bark if you know what I mean, but it didn't seem able to stand up. I'd really like to know if the dog is ok?
  11. All suggestions duly noted and will be acted upon. Not the descended testicle part though as he had check ups regularly and was always ruled to be developing normally, albeit very large for his age. I must just not have noticed them at first, they seemed to become very prominent all of a sudden. I'll get him checked out thoroughly as soon as we get back to Sydney. Was very surprising to see aggression in him as my 3.5 year old intact male Samoyed does not have an aggressive bone in his body and they've been raised in almost exactly the same way/environment. Just took them for a little stroll and noticed the young one always made sure to mark (raise his leg) everywhere the older dog did. Many thanks for all the advice.
  12. It just seems odd that he had zero aggression previous to his balls dropping and him starting to lift his leg to pee, yet when these changes manifest he also starts getting aggressive toward other dogs.
  13. Had planned to get my male samoyed desexed at 6 months (which is now), as he is definitely showing aggression toward other dogs. However he got a paralysis tick a few and though he is recovering well, the vet recommended that it would not be safe for him to go under general for at least a month. His aggression toward other dogs is coming on stronger every single day though, and I wonder if in a month it will have become habitual to the point where getting him desexed will not totally remove the aggression. Would chemical castration be a viable short term solution till the month has passed and he can safely undergo the real operation?
  14. Well they've ruled out snakebite as the cause as her blood is coagulating properly. So now the cause is a mystery, which to be honest makes it even worse as there are two other dogs in the house. The latest blood tests have shown no improvement, in fact they got a little worse. She's on a drip permanently and will be for as long as it takes, as she is not in any discomfort just very tired. While on the drip she has an appetite, but not while off it.
  15. A few days back our 3 year old female border collie started throwing up and passing blood in her urine. Blood test at the vet show kidney failure, which she may or may not recover from. They suspect a snake bite. Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this, and is there any not widely known information that might help?
