Genevieve was one of a kind. Who knew such a small dog was capable of destroying toys supposedly able to withstand tigers' teeth??! I'm still so sad for you.

I was worried about bloat too, and did question what she said, but the vet said it's more likely to occur when they drink after eating and the biscuits swell. I live in quite a cold area (around Orange), so even though she has access to water all the time, I guess she's not very inclined to drink it on a cold day. I know my own water intake declines in winter.

Bumping an old topic to inquire about cranberry tablets. My 3 year old Labrador, Ruby, has just finished up a course of antibiotics to treat a UTI. There were concerns there were stones (or even something more), but the ultrasound didn't show anything, and subsequent urine tests haven't shown crystals; the most recent test was done today. However, even after the 10 day course of antibiotics and a meat only diet for the past 2 weeks, the pH level of her urine is still very high. Ruby is fed a premium brand of dog biscuits (Royal Canin or Nutro) and this was the first incidence of a bladder problem. The vet has said that she can go back to her usual diet, but has advised me to soak the biscuits in 4-5 times the amount of water before giving them to her as a way to get more fluid into her diet. Any other advice? Also, where do you get cranberry tablets from, and how much/when do you give? Thanks :)

Shit, really?? In Orange?? I was talking to one of the guys at work the other day and he said a friend of his in Bathurst had their dog taken while they were home and they jumped in the car and saw a guy walking it down the street. They said "That's our dog" and the guy gave it back. Not sure how true it is, but it's worrying.

One of the 'friends' in the title :) I realised it's been a looong time since I've posted in here. It was funny reading the first few pages :)

The two closest to me are the same as what Stan's Mum said. The bigger one charges on a sliding scale, so school holidays are 'high season' which is the highest charge. During school holidays, they charge a 50% deposit of your total cost which is non-refundable, and they're also closed on public holidays. The other kennel has a flat rate all year round, and doesn't ask for a deposit, nor a fee if you change your mind about a booking. Each kennel has its own terms and conditions. Do they have a website you can check beforehand?

Niki8, as the others have said, we have all been there when it comes to a new puppy :) You've been given some great advice. Your pup is gorgeous! Gotta love a Lab puppy, especially a black one! Come join us in the Labrador thread (Those Crazy Labradors).

I have a Ruby. Not because I'm not very inventive, but because I liked it as a name for a dog, and I wanted to shorten it to 'Roo' ;) My cat is named Jasper (named well before Twilight was even thought of!)- he has many nicknames, but one of them is Piglet. So I have Piglet and Roo :D Ruby also gets called Rabbit. Now I just need a Winnie, an Eeyore and an Owl- I've already had a ginger cat named Tigger! :laugh: Growing up, the majority of our animals had 'human' names, and living on a farm that was more like a menagerie, we had a lot of animals that had names! Dogs- Patches, Pippy, Tara, Wart, Fido, Bess, Angie, Sunny, Bert, Nellie. Cats- Sharon and Theresa (Mum nicknamed them Tatty and Titty lol!), Tom, Tigger, Ginger Meggs, Sooty, Star, Anya. I even gave some of my goats first and middle names- e.g. Jane Fiona and Karen Felicity (who were twins)

The way the information is presented in the table on page 13 of this report is quite misleading. It puts the Tibetan as number one on the list of breeds involved in attacks, however, there are only 43 registered, and out of those there have been 2 attacks, so it takes the rate of attack per 100 dogs on the Register to 4.3! The SMH has since revised their stats ;)

I know those dogs. They ( and their owner) are so lovely. The youngest lives to rumble with my pup. I patted Marge, and Louis (?? I think?) while the others were doing their own thing.

Speaking from very recent experience, a call to the vet at the very least will put your mind at ease. Better to call now than in the middle of the night. It could very well be nothing, but better to be safe than sorry. Could the pup have eaten something today she shouldn't have? My Lab is in hospital tonight on a drip after gorging herself on a decomposing sheep carcass yesterday and vomiting all night I know how worried you must be. In my case, a call to the vet at midnight put my mind at ease, and I had her in at the vet first thing this morning. ETA It could just be a case of too much good stuff (treats) and lots of running around for your pup and with rest and no food for 24 hours, she will feel much better, but again, probably best to ring the vet just in case. I saw 5 at the dog park in Haberfield last Sunday :D They were gorgeous! And the owner was so lovely. He said that 5 was a good number- he did have 7, but found 5 far more manageable! :laugh: They reminded me of mops on very short legs! :laugh:

Amanda at Labradog is fabulous, and while she doesn't often have 'pups' (except for a surprise litter the year before last from a rescued dog), she does sometimes have 'teenagers'. Although, if the person is wanting a pup or at least under 6 months, perhaps they should be looking at breeders?

When I lived in Canada, a friend of a friend had a ginger cat named Pekoe, after the popular tea blend there Orange Pekoe. I've always thought it was a cute name. You could add that to your list :)

Hee! Such happy doglets! :) Mr KTB must have a fancy camera. When I tried to take pics of the flyball at last year's Royal Easter Show in Sydney, pretty much all I got were blurs, or tails! :laugh:

I don't know how to make a fancy one (I made mine on Photobucket), but I just had to say that 2nd last pic is just the cutest!
