  1. Hi everyone :) Thanks for the suggestions. What I am trying at the moment is spraying the wound spray on her neck before I leave for work. And when I arrive home from work, when I stop at the grid to open the gate. I am opening the back of the car and calling them to jump into the back of the car. This is at least minimising the amount of rough housing at this time, and hopefully breaking the habit. It is crazy but the girl really seems to enjoy this rough housing play. Today when I came home and did the above, the girl tried to initiate the rough play inside the house!! I quickly put the wound spray on her neck, they had a quick play (outside) and came back in and settled down. And they don't do this behaviour for my husband or any other cars when they arrive, just vehicles with me in it. And usually I am home before my husband so there is no one here to help modify the behaviour. I do like the idea about the cameras. It would be great to see if they do this type of play at any other time and who initiates the play :)
  2. They are near the grid, which is the entrance to the house yard. I have to stop there as there is an electric fence gate across the grid, to open this gate.
  3. Hi All. I have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks a male aged nearly 4 years, and a girl who just turned 2. The boy was desexed mid January and the girl is still entire. They both play really rough with each other, but the boy is worse than the girl . The biggest problem is that he "chews" and drags her by her skin when they play rough. There is never any blood, but the skin scabs, hair falls out and a scar is left behind. (either it doesn't hurt, or she has a high pain tolerance because she never yelps ) The really rough behaviour mainly occurs when I arrive home from work at the end of the day, as I drive over a cattle grid into the house yard up to my garage. (I Live on a farm) It is not really an option to separate them all day, so I am after something that I can put on her to deter him from "chewing" on her neck and face, or training him somehow to stop what he does to her??
  4. Hi all :) I have entered my Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch in the Sydney Royal dog show. It will be the first time for both of us :) What I need help with is a list of what we need to take. Do people bring special mats to put on the bench for their dogs to lay on? What size mat do I need to take with me? Do you decorate your benching area? It has been many many many years since I have even visited the royal and I can not remember what the dog benching area looks like!! Any photos of what you have done before would be wonderful
  5. I only got my dogs NSW mag yesterday.
  6. I have contacted Dogs NSW and there are 2 options for being able to use the points from the missing challenge certificate. 1. as sky soaring Magpie said I can get a letter from the show secretary on their letter head with the relevant details 2. pay a search fee to Dogs NSW and they will find the relevant details for me. All good
  7. I was hoping that Dogs NSW might have it on record somewhere
  8. Hi, After this weekend my boy is near to having enough points for his championship title . However I am missing a BOB challenge certificate from a NSW AG show from last year. I know who the judge was, the show and date, not 100% sure of how many points were awarded though (I think 15). Is there any way to find out how many points were awarded and can I still apply to Dogs NSW for his title (once I figure out how many points the missing challenge was for ). So basically what do you do in NSW if you have a missing challenge certificate?
  9. I think this is what I will do too Shepherd Lover. I just really liked the idea of having it all feed back to my phone. There's an idea for all those tech savvy people out there
  10. I like it too :) especially being able to move it around :)
  11. Thanks Team Snag :) I didn't think much would happen besides sleeping, it is more for peace of mind. I am really wanting to somehow remotely monitor the temperature in the trailer both whilst travelling and when parked. And if I could get the temp to report to my phone somehow that would be a bonus!!

  21. This is the latest media release from Gloucester Shire Council. It was put up on their FB page today https://www.facebook.com/#!/GloucesterShireCouncil/posts/417175488324878 Some of the original story rehashed with some new info thrown in. I also see it made it into the Daily Telegraph today along with a picture. RIP puppies
  22. This article was released on Friday (6/7/2012) on the online version of the Gloucester advocate. (It is only printed once a weeek on a Wednesday) http://www.gloucesteradvocate.com.au/news/local/news/general/animal-shootings-will-cease/2616084.aspx At least now they will use the vets in this situation. But I would like to know why the council was contacted by police for an animal welfare issue and NOT the RSPCA?? GLOUCESTER Shire Council will immediately cease the practice of euthanising by shooting following widespread public outcry after several dogs were killed at Gloucester landfill last week. The council has released a statement today saying the practice will be stopped immediately. Read council’s statement in full below: Gloucester Shire Council has received a number of complaints in regard to its procedure of euthanising animals under the Companion Animals Act in light of a recent incident raised in the media by a member of the public. The process has been reviewed and an immediate decision has been made to cease the practice of euthanising by shooting. Arrangements are being put in place for the local veterinary surgeon to euthanise animals required to be put down, by lethal injection. Council is still awaiting a response to its report forwarded to the RSPCA prior to finalising its review of the previous safe work method statement. Council is comfortable that the new approach will not only be more acceptable within the broader community in regard to the welfare of the animals, but will also be inherently of less risk for staff involved with these responsibilities. Clear new procedures covering all aspects of these responsibilities will be prepared. It should be appreciated that the recent incident occurred at the request of a member of the public authorised to act in regard to the dogs concerned. The dogs were some of a large number held on the property, none of which were registered, and for which there were concerns about their welfare. In response to this request NSW Police requested council to assist with action to euthanise the animals. The tip was closed while this took place. Over the previous 12 months council has only euthanised four dogs and two cats in accordance with its adopted procedure.
  23. Gloucester has its own veterinary hospital with at least 3 vets working there. The ranger would have had to nearly drive past the surgery to take the dog/puppies to the tip!!!! I have emailed Gloucester Council, but I am yet to receive a reply from them on this matter . The RSPCA or state government or whoever regulates pounds and their procedures should take a very close look at this situation RIP poor puppies
