  1. My two stay there whenever we go away, they love it. We have a girl with pancreatitis and requires special meals which is no probs, the first time she stayed there (she is a sensitive thing) she would not eat properly and they phoned me up to check what special things they could add to her meal that wouldn't upset her tummy. My girl is a Boxer and very hyper (as most are) with other dogs and a lot of other dogs don't always like this, I explained to them the first time she went that she is a bit full on for most dogs so they keep her and our little guy together and only allow her to interact with her special Boxer friend when he is there. Both are always clean, happy and in good condition when we pick them up.
  2. The American forums can be over the top, I don't think they realise how different our climate is the theirs. I have a Boxer and CKCS and leave them both outside for short periods while I duck out but OH is asleep inside (shift worker), they have a tramp bed, synthetic grass, a very large undercover area, plenty of water and it is not possible for the Boxer to jump the fence with the way our yard is set up - an old friend who had Boxers his whole life told us they can be jumpers. But I never leave them out on hot or very cold days - Boxers cant regulate their temps very well. I'm a bit funny about leaving them out because a family members Lab was mauled to death by the neighbours dogs who got into the yard - the incident has left me very cautious. Just something to consider if you have dogs living in adjoining properties who act menacingly to yours when they are in the yard.
  3. Been feeding a 3yr old Boxer with history of pancreatitis the All Life Stages one for past three?? months(have the Salmon one in the garage for rotation but haven't tried it yet)hasn't triggered off an episode, good stools, no difference in her coat (actually her coat was better on the Cal Natural Herring and Evo rotation but didn't like where I had to buy it from). She gets it with a small foil tray of Natures Gift twice a day, also gets lean raw meatys 1-2 a week for teeth cleaning. Energy levels - typical crazy Boxer. She has been known to be fussy with her food but she hasn't turned her nose up once (so far). Also feeding 1 yr old CKCS but he gets it in am and barf pm. I actually ran out of his old food without realising so he didn't get a slow change over, surprisingly no poop issues being switched straight over. He enjoys it but he would eat just about anything. He is pretty hyper but he always has been - he thinks he is a Boxer.
  4. Just wanted to share that these little monsters are active at the moment. I pulled a Paralysis Tick off my sons scalp about an hour ago - he must have picked it up at school today . I am off now to buy bulk Advantix and Preventic collars, so glad I changed to fortnightly treatments last month.
  5. I usually only read on here but this is something that for us changed our lives. We have used just about every collar/training device and I have to say the prong (for us) was the kindest to our girl and had the best results. I have seen terrible damage done by check chains which you can buy just about anywhere, from my experience prongs are not so easy to get and the places you can get them ensure you know how to use them before they will even sell them to you. Not all dogs respond to positive training methods alone and for these dogs there comes a point that the owner has to make a choice - ours was the help of a professional trainer who believes in "toolkits" (including prong collars) - not just treat pouches, but for many others it is surrendering their dog because it is deemed "untrainable" by some treat pouch wearing clueless who has no alternatives to offer. It really is about the operator and their knowledge in how to use it and not the equipment. I truely believe that banning these training aids will mean more people will surrender difficult dogs or they will be locked away in their yards for their whole lives. I personally would like to have the freedom to choose.
  6. I have used them for my two, our Boxer is very hyper which doesn't go down well with most other dogs so I informed them of this and they were put in a solo board kennel together. They have the solo board kennels where their outdoor area isn't shared for dogs who don't get along well with others or are a certain breed ;) ;) you just have to tell them when you book. I think the price for the solo board is on their website much cheeper than a suite.
  7. Vet Products Direct Hugo Designer Dogwear collars Pet Wares Plus fishpond books eBay - was the only place I could find a Jolly Teaser Ball in Australia probably more that just don't come to mind at the moment
  8. Thank you for your replies. I had a look at the Chillidog link (thanks) and like the way you can adjust the elastic. The sock savers are a good idea but I don't think they will fit - his head is quite small Cockerlover thank you for the offer, I am going to have a go at making one similar to the chillidog adjustable one but if it doesn't work out I will get you to do a few for me.
  9. We have had success controlling pancreatitis in our boxer by adding enzyplex (adds enzymes to her stomach so it doesn't have to work hard to digest her meals) and protexin multi strain probiotic powder (keeps her gut balanced and healthy with good bacteria which makes it more capable of dealing with "issues") to all her meals, we also feed her herring and sweet potato kibble as somewhere during my research on pancreatitis I found sweet potato was beneficial to pancreatitis sufferers.
  10. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me where I may be able to get a snood (for a Cavi) or a pattern for one. I did do a search on here (got excited when I saw a craft section with a link for a snood ...... but the link no longer exists) so all I came up with was a headache lol. Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions.
  11. She actually went to the Dural facility as at the time there was no trainer at Terrigal and they were lovely. She had a bit of sep anxiety at first and was not eating properly but she settled in and they did a wonderful job. Of course it is a waste of time if you don't continue to work at home - no such thing as a quick fix, but it got the ball rolling in the areas we were having a little issues with, she is still a very excitable dog - trainer even commented on this but we have the tools to work with it now. She has been back since with her new baby brother (if we are away for 2 wks or more they do board and train as that is the minimum time for B&T) as we would rather board and train when we are away than just boarding - they are both used to having people with them all day long so we feel better knowing they are getting all that extra attention and hey it won't hurt! I won't rate out of ten (i just wouldn't like someone to rate me like that) but you can tell I was happy because I was happy to send her back, she is still the same goofy silly girl we love but WE have tools to work with her, YOU need to continue the work at home. IMO she has calmed a little or maybe it's just we have the tools and confidence to see it early and work with it.
  12. Thank you all for taking the time to give your experiences and feedback. From what I understood I doubted very much that Steve would actually be doing the training but figured it would be based on his methods etc and if he owned the facilities and was using his name in promoting that the trainers used would be ones he approved of. I have no issue with check chains if they are used correctly but thats JMO. Our girl is really good at home and knows basic commands and house manners but being a typical Boxer gets very um .... enthusiastic around new people and new dogs so I was wanting a little help working on what I believe is called proofing - being more responsive to our commands in highly distracted situations and if need be we will follow up with weekly classes. I just figured she has to go to boarding anyways so get a head start with daily lessons while she is there - hopefully it will keep her busy and give her more people time while she is there - which I know she will miss . I plan on phoning and organising a time to go have a look and a chat with them before I book in just to make sure I feel comfortable with the place - I didn't have this much trouble picking a school for my skin kids Thanks again
  13. Hi all, I'm looking for some feedback/experiences anyone may of had with Pet Resorts at Terrigal especially any of their trainers - from what I can understand Steve Austin "supervises all training at Pet Resorts Australia" so feedback/experiences with him as a trainer would be very appreciated too. My family and I are planning on going away and I was hoping to fine somewhere that boards and trains for our Boxer girl, I have had so much trouble finding a boarding facility that a)boards and trains, and b) that I thought she would do okay in as she is a super spoilt indoor girl and most of the ones I have come across seem cold and so far away from what she is used to at home. Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond
