Sorry to hear about your girl Newfie, you must be disapointed. I also have newfies & am learning lots about the health issues of our bred. We have talked a lot about the value of hip & elbow scoring + other health testing. I,m very lucky to be working with a lovely group of newfie owners & I have just started showing one of my girls. It was another friend I talked with about hip scoreing, she is a breeder of a different large breed she does hip score her dogs but only becaues she has to. She does,nt mind breeding with a dog with high scores.She says if she mates a dog with a high score to a dog with a low score the puppies with all have good hips ?? This is not my way of thinking.

I was talking with a friend about hip & elbow testing & she was saying it has made no difference to the hip & elbow scores we are getting today & it is a wast of time/money doing this testing in large breeds. I thought by doing these test on all large breds before breeding we are slowly making headway & my friend is incorrect on this point. Can anyone help me with some info on this. thanks

I am about to breed one of my girls & would like to find a reliable vet who specalizes in reproduction on the Gold Coast. I have had to travel to Brisbane with my last girl to a great vet clinic that is well equiped & very experienced, but it is a long drive to have the progesterone levels done every second day.

We have a very expensive vac that has been a pain to use. I ended up going to Bunnings & bought a basic looking Ryobi barral vac for about $79 & it is great in the house & the kennals, it,s light weight - could,nt live without it. We have 2 long haired dogs & a long haired cat.

I have given her a Zyrtec today & see how she go,s with it. It will be great if this helps her, some days she scratches spots into they bleed then she may be fine for a week without to much scratching. Thanks for helping me with this.

Is it Ok to give your dog human Zyrtec for itchie skin allergies. I have read on DL about it being given to dogs, but is this the same as we would take or is Zyrtec also made for dogs ? My girl has lots of allergies with itchie eyes, ears & skin. In the past 5 months she has had many vet visits only to be put on meds that dont work for her. I would like to try the Zyrtec if it is safe to give her.

When you say you have given your dog zyrtec, is it the same as we take ?

When I took her for her scan all 4 vets at the clinic looked at the scan & I was then told no sax were found & being a large dog they would be able to see puppies by now [28 days]. The vet did say I could come back in 2 weeks for another scan, but not much point as they were 99% sure she is not preg. She would be at day 60 now if she was preg & the only sign is, she has milk. Has anyone had a case like that the dog is not preg but still has some milk ?? I feel her tummy & no sign of movement, she has put on a little weight, but she does not have a big puppie belly. By day 60 would,nt she be nesting ? Is the relaxin a blood test ?

WOW how many days preg was your girl when you had her scaned ? I have not really been looking at any preg signs since the scan. Last weekend we had her at the beach & I noticed then I was able to see her boobies hanging down & normally you can not see them for her heavy coat.

I have not been able to feel any movement, but she has a heavy coat. I have not been looking for any signs of pregnancy since she had her scan as the vet said she could not see any puppies. It is really her teat development I have noticed in the past week & now lots of milk, her tummie is a little larger then normal, but she is not big round & full of puppies. If this does turn out to be a true preg I would think by looking at her tummy size she could only have 1 or 2.

I have breed my bitch & when I took her for a scan at 28 days I was told by the vet she was not pregnant. She is now within a week of what would have been her due date & she is producing milk. I am a new breeder & know dogs can have a false pregnance & this may be what is going on . Just wondered if anyone has ever had a neg scan & it turn out to be incorrect.
