  1. Wow. I did not expect these replies however I am so glad I posted the question. The info from the trainer is correct as both hubby and I were there. I will keep what everyone says in mind when we pop in at the vets later this week. Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk
  2. With relation to exercising, she said he needs to start at about 15 mins and work up to an hour. We had been taking him around the court we live on however she said to stop this due to the vacs. We have taken him to Petbarn a couple of times to meet people and for the car travel and I am taking him in to work for a visit (am on hols at the moment). We will check out puppy school at the vet when we go. Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk

  6. Hi, We had an in home dog trainer mention the possibility of having the 2nd and 3rd vaccinations done at the same time. The benefit of this would be that we can start exercising and socializing our Golden, Murphy, properly. Has anyone heard of this or has any experiences with this?
  7. Thanks for all that info. Would ypu (or anyone else) know why Science Diet seems to be frowned on?
  8. Hello, We are picking up our new adopted Golden Retriever puppy in 7 weeks so am busily starting to make preparations. We have details of feeding from the breeder however are very keen to go with a quality eating plan for her. We went to Petbarn and were blown away by the choices. Can anyone recommend the best diet (wet & dry) for the little one? We lost our elderly golden after 15 wonderful years so it's been a long time since there has been a puppy in the house There are so many choices now :) thanks
  9. Thank you so much everyone. It is very heartening to see that there is actually good people out there.
  10. I did not realise how empty life is without my baby boy. The house is so quiet and it seems like something is missing (hard to explain). Hunter was such a major part of everything I did; I watched the weather to make sure he would be okay during the week (he did not like thunder) and I shared all my food with him (now my plate still had food on it). On the weekend we had some chinese and Hunter was particularly fond of short soup. Without event thinking about it I left half the soup still in my bowl and put it aside. I then grabbed the fried rice and started picking the meat out from it so it could cool down. My husband then said quietly "You know you can eat that" and I burst into tears. God it hurts.
  11. Yesterday we made the heart-wrenching decision to give my baby boy his wings. We loved you enough to let you go although our lives are so empty without you. "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever" Joanne & William
  12. Hi all. Just a little follow up. Hunter now has some Rimadryl to use as necessary. Vet is very happy with his health and the arthritis is not extensive, mostly wrists and ankles. We got some of the foam jigsaw mats from the Reject Shop which we have placed in the bedroom. He has been able to get up with no issues at all. When he lays on the wooden floor he still has trouble from time tl time.
  13. Yesterday was a great day for Hunter. He was so perky (we call him Perky Tits when he is like that) and playful. It is probably a coincidence but I had made up the Tumeric mixture I mentioned and popped it in his dinner. Within about an hour he was being puppy-ish. I will keep giving it to him and see if that makes a difference. He seemed to sleep well last night also.
  14. I was doing some research and see that there has been some good feedback on Tumeric as a pain reliever. I am going to get some and give it a go (you mix it in Olive Oil and chicken stock). We have a trampoline bed - stuck his nose up at that one :)
  15. Thanks for the advise. We have a visit to the vet scheduled for Saturday so will talk with them then.
  16. Hunter has one more week to go with the Cartrophen shots, which seem to be working well. The problem is only when he has been sleeping or laying for a while. I do help him up, no issues there, but we work so I would like him to be indepdendant as mush as possible, if that makes sense.
  17. The legwarmers are something I use because he obsessively licks his legs unless they are covered :) He is still very active and never was one to sleep in the one spot all night - he will wonder around then plop somewhere else.
  18. We have a wonderful Golden who is a little over 14 years old (but sometimes acts like a puppy!!) who has started having a hard time getting up from the hardwood floor if he has been laying there for a while. From watching him it appears as though his front legs slide a bit while he tries to get his back legs up. We know he has some athritic changes which we are giving him liquid glucosamine for, which does not seem to be painful. Can anyone suggest something which will make getting up a liitle easier? I know we can use some rubber backed rugs however he does not always sit on them so that would be hard to manage. Are there some shoes which are recommended which would help? I recently purchased some ToeGrips which give him some confidence however they do not seem to help all the time. This morning I heard him at about 2.00am getting frustrated when he couldn't get up thanks Joanne
  19. Hi all, The holiday (booked and paid for) was to be for nearly 2 weeks. Rascalmyshadow's comment really hit home and I do not want him to be stressed etc without me there. Thanks for helping make my decision :)
  20. Thank everyone. Hopefully he will be with me for a little while longer, but whenever he's ready, i will be there.
  21. My elderley love, Hunter (14 year old golden retriever) is heading down his final path (I am devistated to even be thinking this). He has been in great health and spirits up until recently when he has just been off; slower and maybe a little down. I will be taking him to the vet for a check up this week. Anyway I was due to go to Bali this coming weekend but I just can't. I keep thinking that if his time is coming I don't want him with anyone but me for the remainder of his life. Is my thinking off?
