  1. Thanks all. Been to vets first thing this morning who suggested its some kind of dermatitis, bought on more by the heat/water thats been around. Got him a course of anitbiotics that should sort him out. Off to clean the flooded shed out some more!
  2. thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I don't have any Calendula Tea or betadine!!! Been searching the forum a bit also. Lots on "hot spots" but don't think its them as they are more like sores aren't they?? This is more of a rash. I did see suggestions about bi-carb soda and water so have tried a very diluted version. He seems to have settled down a little, see how he is in morning.
  3. Hi guys Hoping for some advice. Just noticed my boy licking and pulling at the hair around the inner hind left leg, moving down towards his groin. Looks like a rash, fairly red. Doesn't seem to hurt when i touch it, he seems healthy overwise. Could it be due to the heat/humidity? Had a bit of water around too from minor flooding but not much, something from that maybe? What can i do to help him? I am going to take him to vet asap but in the mean time? I've put a cool face washer on the area hoping to relieve it a bit which he has stopped licking the area now. Thanks in advance.
  4. I have a friend who has a nifty trick of giving the whole egg to his dog and the dog will gently carry it out to his food bowl ready for dinner without cracking it open..... It'd be gone in seconds if I tried that with Harvey....
  5. Shells as well? Interesting. I give mine 1 or 2 a week and he loves them too.
  6. Are grass clippings dangerous if eaten? I use a catcher but some still escapes and my boy likes to eat it....
  7. My OH and I just bought a new car not just for us but also keeping in mind the dogs safety. He used to ride in the back seat of my car with a harness and seatbelt on but could still put his head just outside the window. We got an SUV with a cargo barrier in the back so he gets the back of the car now, still in a harness and seat belt but if I have the window down he at least gets the air in his face but cannot get his head outside the window. I can't imagine how devastating it would be to loose a dog this way.
  8. Really is hard to know whats best! He's never been to a kennel before and we've never left him for more than a night. I've made some inquiries at a couple of kennels to see if they have anything available, but like everyone suggested I've probably left it to late. My back up plan is to have a friend come and stay, spoke to her before and she said she'd like to look after him so I should have him covered either way. Wish I could take him with me, I don't want to leave my baby behind! Next time I am insisting we get a dog friendly place! Geez if i'm like this with a dog imagine what it'd be like if/when I have children!
  9. ok, maybe I need to look for an option 3... Not only am I a sook but a fool for not getting in sooner! I have a friend who will be able to stay a few days and my sister can take him over to her place most days as well. I just still feel guilty that I am leaving him
  10. Ok I need advice. We are going away for a week over xmas and can't take Harvey with us. It'll be the first time we are away from him for more than 1 night. We have 2 options - put him in a kennel or leave him at home and have my family come visit him and feed him. Being the big softie sook that I am I think i prefer to leave him at home where he is comfortable. At home he will have plenty of room to run around, probably have visitors twice a day and my sisters dog will hang out with him for a couple of those days. And I can call my folks and make sure he is ok everyday. There is no way he can get out either. I know there is nothing wrong with putting him in a kennel but I feel bad. Am I being stupid? I think I'll spend my whole holiday worrying about him. I don't want him to be lonely! Oh dear, and i was thinking of going overseas for a month next year!!
  11. Had the exact same problem with my boy and we are only just starting to get out of the habit, so I'm hearing ya. Very frustrating but stick with it cause he'll work it out eventually. We discovered he would walk when we took him somewhere new, not around our neighborhood. It encouraged him to want to walk and explore so we found different tracks, parks etc. Now we have introduced him back into walking around our neighborhood and he goes really well. We also use a lot of treats and at one point were taking toys with us or squeekys. As with Akira, Harvey now is starting to pull more so he's gone from one extreme to another and I think it is because we have been so focussed on just getting him to move. This is my next challenge! Stop him from pulling! Good Luck.
  12. Yep, he SERIOUSLY wanted the treat I was waving in front of him!
  13. Just getting ready for the festive season!
