  1. My Samoyed wants to come play!
  2. thanks Meea, I will keep you in mind. Thanks again guys, really appreciate you taking the time to reply :-)
  3. i've found a lady who is going to make me an oilskin coat! :-) thanks for your help, guys.
  4. Hi, I'm in the market for a special warm coat for my aging Basset. She never fits into coats that you buy 'off the rack' and it hasn't really been a problem until recently when she's started to feel the cold a lot. The problem is, I can't find someone to make one for me! I need something high quality, something that zips at the back or sweater-style rather than around the belly as she rips the velcro and takes them off. Can someone point me in the right direction?
  5. The official line from the company about a year and a half ago was that Eagle Pack in the US was sold and they didn't want to export to Australia anymore. Maybe they are still sending out only minimal qtys... I got so sick of them giving us dates for when it would arrive and then the wholesaler having nothing. We switched all the dogs with sensitive skin onto Pro Plan and Euk. I got tired of their lies.
  6. I've had the same problem with my old girl. she's always been hard to keep weight on but when the RSPCA tried to tell me i was mis-treating my dog I nearly punched them. She was eating 4 cups of Nutrience high-energy food plus bones and meat a day and she was only 20kg!!! Now, at 11 years old, she doesn't have any sign of arthritis or other health problems. I think her being so skinny all her life has been a blessing in disguise!
  7. I agree that while many greyhounds are treated well (the ones I have personally seen were given the best of everything) but there's a LOT of dogs out there who aren't treated so nicely and many are killed for not being good enough. While i see that this campaign is great for raising breast cancer awareness in a male-dominated industry, it's the behind-the-scenes that the AR peeps have a problem with. I love greyhound racing and some very happy times have been spent at the track but i always wonder about the trainers around me and if they are the kind of person to get their dog into the GAP program or just shoot them

  9. I have used Vet's All Natural with some success.
  10. Last time we went o a holiday was to QLD for 5 days. We had a friend come and feed them each day. Before that.. (three years ago now) we went to Vanuatu and the dogs stayed at my mum's place (she loved them there) and the birds at my partner's mum's place. I think now we have a few extra pets we would have to get a house sitter in if we went away again... no problem for me, i'm not plannnig to go away for more than a weekend until an overseas wedding in 2012!
  11. I have done this myself and recommended it to many people with 'fussy' dogs. It works a charm.Dog soon realises the food isn't going to be left there forever and they learn to eat it straight away. I hate to leave food out for them to graze as it encourages mice and birds in to eat it.
  12. Everyone has different opinions. Personally, I have two disabled birds and a dog who can't swim. No chance would I be leaving them behind to die. The others might have a chance, since Zac can swim and two birds are fully flighted but in an emergency, I know who i would be grabbing and i wouldn't leave unless i knew they were safe.
  13. Contact the wholesaler tomorrow, they'll know. http://www.rudducks.com.au/view/page/1.html
  14. I have some of that 'big kev' citrus based cleaner that works on sticky stuff. not sure if they sell it anymore but the citrus based ones usually work.
  15. In the small animal/bird section of your local pet supply store you should be able to get a product that keeps algae from growing in bowls. The brand I use is Water Guard by Aristopet. Does the job!
  16. I didn't actually get the dog's name!! lol but yeah we were throwing the ball into the water. I even wore red so i'd stand out!!!
  17. aww, we didn't get there til 12:30 because we spent ages brushing Zac this morning.. we saw one guy from here who had the cutest dog and hung out with him for a while throwing the ball for her while our two wreaked havoc. I think we were just to late for everyone else There was a dogtree meetup there as well and they had a little spitz too but obviously wasn't Kairu. I meet one other Samoyed named Emma. She was an adorable old girl.
  18. I'm just getting out of bed now so ill be a little later than I thought.... should be there by 12!
  19. Sure is! I have to brush him today if he's going to get wet tomorrow.... wish me luck!!
  20. What kind? i was meant to have a 4 week old maroon bellied conure here this weekend but my friend is taking him instead :-)
  21. Kairu isn't going to drown lol... the water doesn't get that deep if you stay on the left hand side! At this stage I'm still coming! Can't bring my own car so I'm hoping my man isn't too hungover to drive... Keep an eye out for these two!
  22. Can't come to this one either Moving house that weekend... Moving sucks!
  23. As a landlord with tenants that have a dog that's allowed outside only comments like that make me VERY cranky. You have been given leeway to have them in the first place. Why abuse the trust? If we had carpets that were close to needing replacement maybe I would have said yes to inside but they're not and if they move out in 6 months I dint want to advertise my house with a 'please don't apply if allergic to dogs' coz they've lived in it. There's a much bigger picture. I don't see any problem with them letting the dog in the house when they are home as long as they make sure there's no damage. That 'allergic to dogs' stuff is a crock, floors are steam cleaned when the tenant leaves as per the rental agreement and the house is cleaned. We moved in to our place with new carpet and haven't treated it like it's glass but we know that if it's damaged in any way other than normal wear that we'd need to replace it when we left. It comes down to picking tenants that will respect your property. We have flighted birds, dogs and wear shoes inside but when we leave this house will look as it was when we moved in. Clearly you haven't dealt with a severe allergy, a few hairs get missed somewhere and there's trouble. Could you give me an idea of the percentage of the population that do have such a severe allergy that even a few hairs would cause a major health problem? Seems to me that if that were the case, the new tenant would be upfront about the allergy, ask the question, and do their own cleaning before moving in.
