  1. Thanks nicestman for your help and advise will hopefully send you my clippers for assesment later this week. It will be great if you can get them working again. Wonderful site , wonderful information thank for all replies if they dont work again I'll get the Wahl SS but hopefully it can be put off for a while.
  2. My poor girl (cocker) was attacked by a beagle, now anything that even resembles a beagle she will have a go at and yes I also am on permernant beagle watch she is fine with most others . She also loves cav's went to classes with a couple and will go running at any cav's in the park to play with.
  3. Sorry should have said both desexed black is male, blue female, since being clipped I then tided him up with just the thinning scissors was this also a mistake did it make it worse, and is there hope? Thinking of buy from Feather Edge ??????
  4. Thanks, to be honest I only clip the heads and ears, use mars, furminator and fine tooth comb. Basicaly I have them in a short show cut as I use them for field work and have tried to not clip as curly coats are harder to get the burs and critters out of as they run in and out of tussock grass and blackberry bushes. Overseas are using the combs saying that although clipping using the combs does'nt alter the coat making it go curly, which would make it a lot easier for me if this is true they need the hair to protect their body from the sharp bushes and tree branches but not the length and not curly. I have a blue with a great coat a little thin for showing but great for me and a solid black who is my problem so thick with hair that grows in every direction. A friend did clip him for me before christmas but only the back and sides and has gone a little curly but I've been working on him with the mars and fine tooth comb hoping to get it back again although he looked good I do regret it. Can I get it back or is it too late now ?
  5. Why just the single speed and have you tried the wahl steel combs on cockers?
  6. Hi , my old Oster clippers just died and trying to get some research on a new one. I was told avoid Oster they get too hot, Andis or Wahl are the better which is opposite to someone else said avoid Wahl. My Oster might have been the original Oster clipper which I brought second hand more than 15yrs ago has survived two Airedales now 2 Cockers and only recently started to get hot. Last service he said not worth servicing just use till they start gettting hot, but never had a problem with it so now I'm totally confused 15yrs plus, seems pretty good and reliable to me. Help and advise required before I buy . Many thanks
  7. Hi all, Out of interest would like to know how many cockers compete in various sports what do they excell in. I know of quite a few in agility(one a top dog), but what about flyball, tracking, gundog working tests, field trials, obedience what is the highest title a cocker has achieved in obedience? And anything else I forgot. Thanks
  8. Lamb flaps are a great way to put on weight also chicken skins are very fattening Lenards chicken mince is bones and skin good luck
  9. My previous dogs were airedales who I clipped myself it used to take me allday from bath, their coats take so long to dry then clip then sissor I'd clip one till she had enough then I'd clip him then grab her again and so the day would go on. Then I hurt my back and they had got hairy but not matted I called around to find someone who could clip & sissor them properly. This mobile pet company woman came out lovely lady I took them out hobbled back inside later went outside to see if they were ready and nearly died. Not only did she not know what an Airedale clip was, she shaved off the legs off with the beard and made them look like little fluffy white things (sorry no offence meant to little white dogs) with a stupid bow in their heads and she charged me over $80.00 each (we are talking about 5 6 years ago) and said had she known how long they took she would have charged me more All I could say was WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY DOGS and she still had no idea what she had done wrong. I explained before she started how I did it with only a few slight alterations he had a few mouth infections so instead of a full beard he would have a goatie looked very cute. I payed her the money and never let anyone else ever touch them again. After reading thread could'nt help but add my piece brought back memories
  10. Indi is'nt interested in her kong for chewing I've tried peanut butter and vegemite I'll have to try come of these other bits and pieces inside. As she was'nt interested in licking inside I put a rope through the middle and she runs around the garden with it chasing her she now thinks its a pull along toy.
  11. Great to read all the diets, I've fed barf for the 1. bones 2. meat 3. fish. 4.veg 5. offal last 10 years to my old dogs and now my pup. My advise is think When you do your weekly supermarket shopping do you work out how much of each food group you are eating? You dont have to be that precise, on shopping day is the day she gets an egg and yogurt even flavoured strawberry etc and whats left in the fridge veg included (I think thats her favorite day looks discusting) She does'nt help unpack the shopping, she's now learnt to sit near the fridge. Make sure you dont feed all frames or necks or what ever just keep it varied veg doesnt have to be every day sometimes its every third meal. I add a can of salmon or tuna to veg mix proccess together looks like a mouse .She eats everything I've given her the only thing she doesnt like is geen apples I made the mistake of adding this to veg mix and she wont eat it. I keep buying different meat and bones what ever is on sale I also use frozen veg but I am choosey and make sure its broc carrots ect not peas and corn. I make sure she gets garlic occasionaly, vegemite, honey toast she loves pizza crusts. Also I dont have strict feed times like shopping day which varies each week she might get a meal at 2 in the afternoon or not till 9 at night if I've been out. Walks are also at random times otherwise you end up with a dog which dictates your life with meal times and walks. I've read raw meaty bones done a natural therapies course for companion pets and lots of other books my old dogs made it to 12 years old and only went to the vet for problems in the last year of her life, so must have been doing something right .
  12. Hi, I fed my previous dog marrow bones when she was young (around 12months) to keep her amused during the day . The vets always commented on how clean her teeth were in her old age but !!! she had ground them down at the front and only had teeth half the size they should have been, in hindsight don't give to many. I have given my cocker pup a lamb bone not sure what it was looked like a smaller version of the marrow bone from beef and she was'nt interested. I have always fed chicken carcuses and necks don't like wings they are to small, because I only have the one pup she gets chicken pieces for casseroles. Small drumsticks thighs, and other large pieces keeps her happy as well as vegs and apples and what ever the supermarket is selling cheap plus fish once a week. Fed better than many people I know
  13. sorry to hijack the thread but have same problem, thanks haven, last night at obed school we were the star pupil she behaved really well and had to show the rest of the class how to heal plus all other tasks, we are only going 4 steps at the moment and she understands this and caught on really well her eyes focused on me, close to me and in correct position, so she knows what heal means my problem is I'm trying to teach her to "walk" expecting her to heal all the way around the block is to much and not what I want. I want her just to walk calmly without pulling and keep "heal" for the obed ring and "walk" is for fun around the block and sniffing is this possible help and suggestions welcomed
  14. I have the same problem, she is understanding the concept of heal as a short command(4 or 5 steps) off lead in the garden at home or at training classses, but when we go for a walk its lets see who has the strongest willpower. I have trainned my previous dogs with the correction collar and had success but now I'm at an obed school with positive methods, food rewards which is great, but whenever I say good girl in the short second it is, she then pulls away again when I stop she sits down looks at me I take one step she then pulls again. I find it very hard to say good girl or reward her when there are very few moments to do so. I know she is very young 5months and still very bouncy (cocker spaniel)I'm tempted to go for a part correction collar. Any suggestions welcomed
  15. Hi, where is St. Clair Hills district is Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills Kellyville. Yes I also miss my old haunts I had two wholesale places where I would get my meat from, one a chicken shop in Brandon Park shopping centre (Glen Waverley area) he would fill a very large barrel with frames and bits and peices and charge me $10.00 and I had a lamb place that I would get bones, necks whole, some with skin on still Yuk but the dogs loved it $1.00 per neck then he would make a large bag full of bones and ribs and I'd give him $5.00 . I had 2 airedales to feed , now in Sydney I have a cocker spaniel pup so I dont need the volume of food I did. Parklea Market I only visitied breifly I did notice vegs but not any meat How long have you been here?
