Who is the trainer for the weekend?

Over 36,000 young people between the ages of 12-25 are homeless in Australia alone. One in two homeless kids will be on the streets tonight because they will be turned away from already overcrowded homeless shelters. They are homeless for a myriad of reasons including physical, verbal and sexual abuse. Most will then find themselves in a world where drugs and prostitution are a way to survive. Their school days are behind them with many not even reaching year10, this greatly limits their future options and the cycle continues. I know what you meant re: well off. It is true in Australia homeless people are unlikely to die due to starvation, hypothermia etc, as we have many services available. Much poorer nations have far more tragic stories to tell. But it is still a horrendous life, they are far from well off.

I currently have my 1yr old kelpie lying next to me in a cast Rosie broke the 4 metatarsals in her leg 2wks ago! She jumped a paddock fence and managed to get her leg caught as she went over the top, the rest of her kept going and she ended up hanging upside down by the leg until I could get to her. I understand how traumatic it is, I doubt I will ever forget the sight of her just hanging there screaming.... A whole lot of money later, 1 surgery and a cast for 6wks and she will be fine. Accidents do happen I am just thankful she will be okay. It could have been a whole lot worse then a broken leg. Hope all goes well with the surgery today, I suggest you start thinking up some fun games to keep your bub occupied whilst he is resting. I do a lot of find it games with Rosie i.e. piece of food in one hand and she has to hit the right hand with her paw etc.... Her other favourite thing is a Kong full of peanut butter. Your boy will be fine, the recovery period may be a bit trying though ;)

Bit of a long shot but there is a beautiful Wolfhound x on Rescue Rex (Glenfield rd animal shelter) at the moment. He is in Wagga Wagga but transport options can usually get them a bit closer if you are interested. May not be what you are after but he is rather handsome ;)

When my horse had to be PTS at the equine vet, I was left with a huge bill and could not afford to have him 'disposed' of in anyway but through the vet. Even that cost a fair bit if I remember correctly. I was devestated at him being in landfill and it was something that upset me for a long time. I ended up purchasing a rose bush called quite appropriately 'Warrior'. It is planted in a lovely pot, the same colour as his show colours and it is my way of having a part of him with me. Perhaps doing something similar may help you? Sorry about the loss of your girl

Agreed with Nekhbet. As an aside in the mean time, simply supervising your little children with her is not enough. It would take just a split second for her to do some major damage. Call K9 pro now. Also don't assume just because she has never shown aggression towards other children / adults that she does not pose a very real risk. Your dog is giving you all the warning signs, it is your responsibility to act now before someone is seriously injured.

But I tune back in and yep, the small-mind-from-a-big-place mentality seems to be alive, ripe and well! I find it small minded to judge a country based on a small selection of people I will never judge a country based on a few of its citizens, nor will I ever dislike someone based on their nationality. I prefer to judge people based on who they are as a individual. Regardless of race, colour or creed. Back on topic- I agree with what most people have said, it comes down to how the dogs are treated. Plenty of people have one dog that is shut in the backyard from the day it comes home until the day it dies.

I use it for both my kelpies, they have been on it since they were pups. I am really happy with it! But I have not tried anything else so who knows ;) But they are fit and healthy with lovely coats so I will stick with it.

Could not agree more! I grew up with a fear aggressive BC and it devastated me that I could not ever have her near other dogs. So when my kelpie pup began to show resource guarding towards bones I rang a dog behaviourist straight away. I wanted to get control of this whilst she was still young. And we have been successful in this. Re: no room for a crate, not a big deal at all, if you can ensure the backyard is empty you could just pop her out there with a bone (assuming she eats and does not bury), or just put her in the laundry. I only suggest a crate to save your floors I did this as we had to wait a while for our appointment and it is important not to let them practice the behaviour.

I went through the same problem with my pup! From day 1 she was lovely towards everyone but put a bone in front of her and you would most certainly be growled at if you walked anywhere near her. This really worried me and I pretty much went straight to a professional. She was assessed and a program designed for her and now I can call her off a bone and she will come happily and I can walk past her with no problems. The problem with resource guarding is now she is guarding a bone but next it might be a toy etc... Don't be too worried and don't take bones/food off her to teach 'dominance' this only reinforces to her that she needs to be protective of 'her' things. You are in WA so I would suggest asking for trainer recommendations on here, someone will know the right person to help you Btw it is important that you don't allow her to practice the behaviour, or it just becomes harder to fix. Best thing would be to pop her in a crate with a bone and let her out when she is finished. I only used bones my girl would fully digest e.g. chicken frames, lamb flaps etc so that I was never taking anything off her.

I would be devastated if I was told that my healthy, asymptomatic dog would be destroyed. It scares me that the Government has this power. And yes I understand it is to protect humans and stop the spreading of this virus but I feel physically sick at the thought of it

The smell you have described is def her anal glands, unfortunately I know it all too well ;) One of my Kelpies is on a raw diet but still has trouble with hers, we think there is an underlying structural abnormality.

Really My two are totally fine in the wet weather, we ended up with snow yesterday and they were both playing in it for ages Living where we do I think they have had to get use to cold/wet weather, they would never get outside otherwise ;)

Any of the above suggestions sound great! Noticed you had a kelpie at one stage, if you are still interested in working breeds, Australian Working Dog Rescue would be a good place to have a look as well. You can google their website and they have a FB page. My little kelpie is through AWDRI, she was from Wagga pound and is just the most gorgeous little monster

They are lying, that sort of supply cannot be kept up by the odd family breeding their 'perfect' mutt so that kids see the miracle of birth. That sort of supply screams puppy mill. This woman had one dog and one bitch, not your typical image of a puppy farmer as such, but definitely just as bad. Agreed!

He is just being a typical puppy :D The mess he creates is an added bonus My youngest has stopped doing that inside finally but she has a shell pool out the back that she loves digging in! She got most frustrated the other morning when she tried to dig in it and the water was frozen
