Hi Liz....simply intimidation.The look and size of these dogs will generally deter trespassers,much like Dobermanns etc.But they are also a great family pet, with the natural gaurding abilities... a bonus

Hi Geo...yes I have seen Painters but not the Margintina type.I did own an American Bulldog female over 15 years ago.People swore at me for owning a Pitbull....but she was an american bulldog,just looked like a Pitty.
