  1. Thanks Corine for your reply.

I had never heard of it for dogs, I guess I learn't something new :D , not that I have to worry about it at the moment anyway.

    I should clarify......

You don't make the junket pudding and then feed it, you actually give the dog the whole junket tablet. I guess for little dogs try a half tablet though. The pudding is then formed inside the dog's stomach. Easy no fuss way of dealing with the problem and there's no cooking utensils to wash :) .

    Cheers,

    Corine

  2. Can I ask a stupid question, well actually 2

Is this good to give to dogs that get car sick does it settle their tummies?

If so how along before you go do you give it to them?

    Hi Mal,

Yes it works for car sickness by turning the stomach contents into a pudding like substance thereby settling the queasy feeling. I am told you need to give it at least 2 hours beforehand, my 1st try was only 30 mins beforehand with disasterous results.

Some people use ginger tablets or ginger biscuits instead, haven't tried that yet myself.

    Regards,

    Corine

  3. Hi,

I don't know if this will help other EP users but here goes....

I have an IBD affected dog, previously the only dry I could feed him was Hills Z/D Ultra. I have switched to the EP Holistic Duck & Oatmeal formula. It was suggested to me (on advice form the EP vet in the US) that the "fishy one" is the most hypoallergenic but it has 3 novel protein sources not 1. I have had no reaction to the duck one and also the Nutrience Holistic Duck, I interchange them for variety.

With my boy he has a chicken protein intolerance hence chicken based formulas are out. Hills Z/D is chicken based but the proteins are hydrolised which neutralises them.

I have been buying EP at Petstock in Sth Melbourne but haven't had to replenish my stock recently so have no idea if they still have it sorry.

    Cheers,

    Corine

  4. Hi Kel,

Duncan was rather "uppity" too after the surgery and once we got the "all clear". I think they go a bit stir crazy and release all their pent up energy in bursts. We still have issues with dog aggression but he was fine at the show on Sat because he was on lead the whole time. Duncan is an angel compared to the dog on "It's me or the dog" last Sunday, that was one scary pooch  .

    Corine

  5. Well she may have been naughty, but second is a great result!!! Congrats to Mel (and the many people who slave over her and take extra special care of her!!). ;)

I should have explaned better, there were only 2 in her class ;) She looked a treat but the judge just didn't like tricolours me thinks. Mr Duncan Dog strutted around like he owned the place, he had a great day out!

    :D :):)

  6. Hi Bilby,

Oh No, did I blow Duncan's cover  . Thanks for the images, they are very clever. Duncan came to a dog show with us yesterday, I think more people were staring at him then my show bitch. He can look very handsome and regal when he wants to  .

Jordan is a handsome fellow too Berly  .

Sorry must dash, I think Timmy has fallen down a well again as Duncs is barking his head off  .

    Cheers,

  7. Hi Bowser,

I have an IBD afflicted dog, confirmed by endoscopy by an internal medicine specialist. We mucked around with various tests and meds for ages, the bouts of vomitting and diarhheoa had been going on for most of his 2 years. My dog just kept losing weight, all his ribs were sticking out and he was just so skinny it made me cry. Finally I demanded a specialist consult which my vet arranged to be done at the local surgery. I have also worked out through elimination that he is intolerant of chicken protein and also lamb and other fatty meats. My vet reccommended Hills Z/D Ultra even though this contains chicken. She explained that the chicken protein is hydrolized, a process which destroys the nasties.

While he has been fine on that. it is expensive ($88 for a 7kg bag) and can only be bought from the vet. I have recently switched to Eagle Pack Holistic Duck & Oatmeal alternatng with Nutrience Holistic Duck based formula. The folks at EP advised the anchovy one is the most hypo allergenic according to their vet in the US but with 3 protein sources to contend with I decided to try the duck one instead. They supplied heaps of samples of both too which was nice of them. So far we have had no dramas with either the EP or Nutrience, I alternate them for variety.

Duncan is on a mainly beef based diet but does get rice or pasta and vegies, I generally feed the dry for brekkie for a bit of crunchy stuff. Provided you work out which proteins set your dog off and manage his diet accordingly it is possible to keep IBD under control. I would want the IBD confirmed by an endoscopy though, lest it be something else entirely. Good luck with the search.

    Corine

  8. I cut that bit of the bag off to get at the contents  With the bit that's left I can't make out whether it's 15 or 16kg but it's one or the other.

    Eagle Pack Natural is Holistic.

Edited to add. Have a look at the website Corine, that will give you the info.

Sorry for the blonde question (and yes I am blonde) but which website, the K9Katz one or the EP one?

    Cheers,

    Corine

  9. I have Eagle Pack Holistic delivered and it costs $86 all up. I think the bags are 15 or 16Kg though, not 18kg.

Could you guys post your prices on the forum instead of by PM please so we can all find out about it. Thanks.

    Hi CNR,

I paid around $33 for a 3kg bag of EP at PetStock in Sth Melb, it's $62 for the 6.5kg bag, and $114 for the 13.6kg bag. Can you check the size of your bag and let me know because that's a great price. I have to buy the Holistic as my boy has IBD.

    Cheers,

  10. Hi all,

Around 2 years ago now I posted about my friend's Collie "Debbie" who was lost for 6.5 weeks. She got out of her property while my friend was interstate. She was found on a nearby army base and was little more than a skeleton when found. "Debbie" weighed only 12.5 kgs when found, not good for an adult female Collie. Debbie survived that ordeal and was inseperable from her "mum" after that.

Last night "Debbie" lost her brave fight for life after major surgery to remove an abcess which had formed under a lump on her tummy. She was 11.5 yo, so to survive the ordeal 2 years ago at 9.5 was pretty amazing in itself.

The pic attatched was taken after she had recovered from her previous ordeal, you wouldn't believe it if you had seen her just after she was found.

RIP Dear Sweet "Debbie" you will be forever remembered by your "mum" who loved you so very much. We who knew you prayed for your recovery but sadly this time it was not to be. No more pain darling, rest easy now with my girl "Dana" (a relation)

  11. You can buy reasonably cheap rubber backed hall runners from Bunnings by the metre. I have laid these across the slippery areas of polished boards in my house and it fixed the problem. Duncan slipped on the floors a few times when his leg was bandaged after surgery and must have hurt himself so now is pretty wimpy on the polished boards. Both my furkids sometimes stupidly try and rush past me when entering these rooms and so will slip and panic, safer all round to have the runners down.

    Corine

    Edited for spelling.

  12. My dogs currently get alternated between the Nutrience Holistic Duck and Eagle Pack Holistic Duck and Oatmeal. I started Duncan on the EP because of his Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) troubles but find he prefers the Nutrience. Prior to that I had to get Hills Z/D Ultra from the vet, at $88 a 6 kg bag it wasn't cheap either. Neither the EP or the Nutrience upsets his tummy so now I just alterbate between the 2 each day for a little variety. They also get meat, rice, past, or vegies so I don't feed huge anounts of dry. I tend to feed dry in the mornings and wet/dry in the evenings and it seems to work well.

I was lucky to get a 7kg bag of Nutrience at a dog show for only $25, way less than wholesale. The Use By date wasn't printed straight so I couldn't tell if it was over but it is fine, as I said both dogs seem to prefer it over the EP. The EP does have glucosamine in it which is a bonus as Duncan also has a dodgy leg from a puppy accident.

I was given lots of EP samples to trial by the distributors in Vic, might be worth trying the Nutrience distibutor for some samples too.

I used Supercoat when they were puppies, a lot of breeders use it because it's cheap. It's OK for it's price range but I will be sticking to the holistic stuff from now on.

    Cheers,

    Corine
