  1. I feel your pain, we had the same problem, first vet told me to stop being so silly and so on. Roxy is now finally being treated for mange correctly, we thought we were on top of it, and she is finally even getting hair back, but alas, on the weekend there are new spots so we are continuing with daily ivomec (which I was under the impression was more effective than injections) and weekly washes. Good luck, lots of good advice on this forum, I am sure that you will beat it with time. Moving probably has had a big impact on the mange, as stress is a big factor and that was when Roxy got her mange really bad.
  2. Hi, Well Roxy is just starting to get better, she is growing some hair back, even in places that she didn't have it to start with. I might end up with a really hairy dog yet! She is learning to hate her medication no matter what treat I give her to make it nicer so hopefully we don't have to give it to her for much longer. She is turning into the active naughty puppy that she always has been, gotta love her. Thanks for all the encouragement I think we are well on our way. Larns P.S. the photo is before the mange took hold.
  3. Thanks, Lots of TLC that is of course when she isn't learning how to become a delinquent (sp?). Jumping, hyperactive, spitting out her medication is the newest one. So much to love. All she has to do is look at me with those big brown eyes and I go all mushy anyway. Thanks for the support and advice, hopefully we are on our way to recovering and not getting any worse. larns
  4. Thank you for your encouragement, Roxy is only 5 months old and has been through a bit in her short life. Dan, she is meant to be a mastiffxLab, but we aren't really sure. There are new patches appearing but the old ones seem to be looking better too. At least she doesn't mind the medicine too much. Thanks again. Larns
  5. Hi all, Just got Roxy back from the vet and she has a secondary skin condition so is now on antibiotics as well. She is also doubling her intake of Ivomec each day until 6mls. Otherwise continue the treatment. She is still continuing to get more spots but that will most likely disappear soon. Thanks for the support and advice given.
  6. some pictures, sorry not great but she loves to lick the camera.
  7. HI, My beautiful Roxy has demodectic Mange, discovered late because the vet I was going to kept telling me not to worry about the bits of hair and bare skin she was developing. Finally last week I drove her to the next town and went to their vet. She has it pretty well developed and the vet put her on Ivomec increasing doses till 6ml/day and also Demedex washes once a week, the first of which we did yesterday (awful stuff). She has also taken her off her diet and put her on Hills for large puppies. I feel awful and so depressed that my poor gorgeous Roxy is having to go through this, she isn't very active at the moment but I think that is because of all the medicines I am hitting her with. I will also today be purchasing Vitamin C,E and A as well as Evening Primrose tablets to help her immune system. I have been researching this condition widely and really want to make sure we get it all sorted this time. I suppose I am posting this for some encouragement, support and advice on what is best for my beautiful girl.
  8. I am also having the same problem with Roxy who is 13-14 weeks, also does anyone know of any trainers in Rockhampton that I should take my pup too?
  9. I am glad that I have found this thread. Suddenly this week, Roxy has started to whine and cry when she goes into her pen at night and in the morning. The rest of the time that I am home she is allowed both in the laundry and the back yard, but when it is sleep time and during the day she is in there. It is a good size pen, has a clam, shelter, bed and toys. I think also cause my OH is away this week she has been getting a bit more attention and therefore thinks that she can always be around. Also yesterday, was monday, I got home late which scared her and also it was the first day after the weekend when she gets heaps of attention cause we are home. At the moment I am just ignoring her when she does this in the hope that it will work, that she learns that crying won't get her anywhere and she will quiet down, this usually only takes about a half hour, but if I turn the bathroom light on or something she starts all over again. It really breaks my heart to hear her do this.
  10. Another terrific feeding day has begun. Roxy has once again wolfed down her food at great speeds and is actually enjoying it. The yoghurt and apple cider vinegar are great addiditives, and will probably help as this morning she had a whole heap of potting mix for desert, I should know not to trust her when she is quite! Her poo is formed and seems to smell less, and she is so active right now. My OH and I have been looking through the info I have got from the net, and definately decided on BARF as a way to go. Thanks again
  11. Sirmonsta, How much did yours weigh at 12 weeks? Roxy has just weighed in at 7 Kg, if she was a ridgeback cross, would she weigh more by now? I don't know if 7kg is alot to weigh at 12 weeks, or if it is about the size of a medium dog. Her legs are so fine, that I thought she might be a bigger sized dog, just not really sure what, it would be great if we could get those piccies. Thanks Also, if you go into the photo display, there is also a picture of her in there taken recently
  12. Thanks again, I would just like to report that for the first time ever, Roxy ate all her breakfast at amazing speed, even the bonnie which is an absolute first. She also had the liver treats for a change. I really think it might have something to do with the yoghurt I put on her meal, I think it might spice it up a bit for her. Thanks Bommy and Steve for that info, I will definately be looking into that today. I appreciate the time you take to educate those that need some help. Thanks again. Larns
  13. Sorry, can't help anymore with the cheerio explanation, never heard of them being a cereal though. Sirmonsta, could you post a pic of your pup, we were told that Roxy was a mastiffxLab, though you can see why we don't really think so. By the way, how big does a ridgy get? My other feeding question is, should I be putting more beef raw meat in as well? So that she doesn't become anaemic? I started to put yoghurt in, and boy does she love that, how often should I be giving that to her? Bommy, why should I be taking out the Bonnie dry food? beside the fact that she doesn't eat it? Thanks so much for the reassurance, I was getting pretty worried that all wasn't right with her system, although she has been pretty active the whole time, doing usual puppy things and getting into everything she can Thanks again. P.S. The vet is based in Emerald but also has an office in Blackwater. There is only one other vet in Blackwater, and he gives me the creeps.
