long time since I visited here!!! yeah our last trials saw some of the best entries wa has had yet. Sue Fed was our lovely eastern states judge, some great runs too!!! and yes weasels got to play with the star of the day.. although she is being pain in the butt with the 3 key now! it will be a massive shame to lose you weasels and mr weasels.. WA's loss is a massive gain for SA

I'm not sure we even have any advanced dogs competing at the moment. We only had 1 intermediate run this morning & the rest were started or tests. I'm not aware of any crossover between ANKC & yard/ 3-sheep here either We do run the B course here in WA only myself and Steph are trained to run on it.. but hopefully more will be attempting the B course started towards teh end of 2012. we dont have any dogs yet at advance level.. mostly started with a scattered few intermediate dogs.. we'll get there soon... I'm scared of the competition coming up behind me.. nice work today on ducks too weasels.. you'll get there with sheep :)

but at least you'll know what you or your dogs are doing wrong...

let us know how you go at your trials.. joining a club is not "necessary" but it supports that club and in turn the club supports you... I'm president of the all breeds herding club of wa.. to enter our trials you dont need to be a member.. but its great to have members in our club.. and I look foward to seeing everyone of them and the non members at trials.. in some of the others states there are a few clubs that herd, we are the only one in WA..

I haven't posted my entries off yet.. so I hope they are still open... if you try, you'll know what your doing wrong.. if you get a pass out of your 2 attempts or both attempts you'll almost have a title.. worth it I think.. if you completely suck on the first run, we can hold the second to a later trial in the year.. we are not about taking money..

enter them in sheep also, you'll know what to improve on in training and they'll and you'll get experience at a trial level.. its well worth it.. and you might even sneak in the pass

i would never ever start a new dog herding chickens... it will either put the dog off, or cause the dog to get pissed off.. turkeys will be almost as challenging, you need to do some basics with sheep.. if you really can't then you need to have a strong stop command. so if the dog does attack or do something wrong you can stop it. basic obedience training is a must..

I guess in basic, means when you are walking in a straight line (with your sheep and dog behind you) and your dog instead of weaving nicely behind you, "overflanks" by going too far wide, therefore your sheep instead of walking nicely in a straight line behind you weave. when trialing this costs you 1/2 a point per weave depending on the severity of the weave.. so ideal to iron out in training if you can.. I'll explain in picture if I cant you at training, else ask steph if you see her.. else I'll explain it better if you come to the General meeting.. Got it, thanks! I think I've seen Chess do that with Tom, possibly because she gets bored when everything is going smoothly (she also used to randomly charge the sheep to give her something to do picking them up again. A very 'kinetic' dog that girl). I haven't noticed it on the Weasel,possibly because when he gets bored he just goes and eats sheep poop until he's needed again. once your trialling its costly!! its ok in the tests.. but as you go further into training you'll train that out of them.. sooty used to be a turd.. he still overflanks all the time.. but not as bad..

it was a day out in the sun and a break from it all that I needed.. a good friend of mine was going to offer to handle for me if I needed.. but I decided to enjyo the sun..

I didn't get to see your runs.. I entered sooty into to much and ended up exhausted.. I got my HSAd title now!!! a few titles went out to alot of people.. was a good day over all.. will update the website tomorrow, tonight I'm to tired..

Hi Sherlot, I only sent my entry for the trial off on Monday , do you think there'll still be room for 2 kelpies? We need another PT pass under a non-Steph judge. Good luck with Sooty! I'm sure you'll fit in.. we try to fit all tests in.. if it was a trial, we might not let you.. so you entered under sue then I guess... I'm not judging this weekend!

our herding weekend is on sunday, with duck and sheep runs.. hopefully sooty behaves and gets his duck title...
