  1. Bella is just about 4 mths and I feed her one good meal a day with a small supplementry meal and some sort of raw meaty bone a day If the bowl is licked clean i add more to the bowl and if they slow down and there is food in the morning i back off!!! Ty enjoys all the extra meals ... His new nick name is Bulldozer as he has put on a few kilos since Bella joined us :D
  2. I always leave a TV or Radio on so they can hear some noise etc .... I have found this to work ... When Ty was little i use to fill a couple of Kongs full on Peanut butter etc and freeze them. I would then give him one and hid the other. Then i would spread different treats etc through the yard so he had something to help take his mind off us not being there. I did the same with bones!! Given time he will get used to being alone. Good luck
  3. what a beautiful little fluff ball
  4. I have never had a problem with chicken necks both dogs have had them from a young age
  5. Kids sometimes just dont get it about hugging dogs My 11 year old son always hugs my dogs with big hugs and last nite Ty growled at him. I think thats why kids get bitten cause they just dont understand that dogs will find see it as threatening behaviour. We had a big talk today and hopefully he will understand (the son that is) :p
  6. How about some meaty bones ... it will take her time to eat them and hopefully keep her full for awhile
  7. I have a new staffy pup "Bella" and she has taken to making our back yard a golf course with neat little excavation holes all over the place One must walk around the yard very carefully otherwise you are in danger of rolling the ankle!!! All plants and gardens are fenced off and wired off due to "Tyson" our 2 year old staffy who quickly destroyed all plants and reticulation!!! The day we got Ty he walked into a rose bush and came out with thorns stuck all over his face We thought for awhile he was going to be a reticulation expert with carefully pulling up all black poly pipe and repostioning very carefully (NOT) for us We ended up having to put alot of retic up on the fence Here is a photo of Bella and notice right behind her one of her the beginning of a new hole and also notice the staining of sand around her nose
  8. Having a 8 week old staffy girl "Bella" I know what you are saying (lucky we already have Ty who keeps her amused etc)!!! It will just get better and better Ty is nearly 2 and is a dream dog now ;) He was one HYPERACTIVE puppy :D :D
  9. Tea tree and lavender will do it as well .... not sure about using it on dogs but i use the same combination on us a an insect repellant and it works a treat
  10. OMG Lololololololol sorry i am just rolling around whilst reading this ;) Nobody warned me about the hidden talent of my Staff Ty ....
  11. Would be around (scratching my head trying to remember) 15 odd years ago maybe longer.... You might be right maybe there was something wrong with the vaccines etc it.... I dont agree dogs need to be vaccinated every year but have to do it
  12. I think thats the kinda proof you need .... if a dog improves (especailly a older dog) thats gotta be proof My staffy is a Barf dog and has been since he was a pup
  13. I vaccinate every year cause Ty goes to kennels reguarly I have to share though (i was a vet nurse in my young days) we had a outbreak of Distempter that lasted a few months and i remember it wiping out so many dogs , dogs that were only a short time over their vaccination dates were being wiped out.... It would have to be one of the worst things i saw in my time :p
  14. I gave started my staffy pup on Barf since he was 6 weeks old.... He is now a very healthy happy 8 mth old pup ..... i would also not touch pet mince
  15. She looks healthy and beautiful. What a good looking dog
  16. Like you I have a 5 month old staffy and am always looking for ideas to make him a social boy with manners so no one is afraid of him. I dont have a problem when adults come to the house as he tends to mill around their feet licking their toes but when kids come over he can get quite jumpy etc. I try and tell everyone who comes through the door to ignore him and not make any contact with him until he is sitting and settled. But like you it can be a uphill battle. I even drop treats at my feet while talking to people to keep him sitting. But all in all he is not too bad. Good luck
  17. My staffy has been on BARF since he was 6 weeks old. He is the first dog I have had not to had tinned food. He is a beautiful strapping 5 mth old now picture of health and energy. I do give him veggies but its only a very very little, perhaps a tablespoon every meal and if i am lazy he gets only meaty bones etc, I find if i add to much he wont eat his tea. One day out of the week he wont eat his dinner but am not worried about it. But i do give him fruit which he loves, he especially loves pears on a hot day. I think with diets we all have different opinions but all in all we have only the best interests of our pets
  18. Keep a close eye on him as the same happened to my pup ..... we went to a friends house and my pup is a Barf pup and he gulped a heap of dog bikkies and ended up being really sick. In the end it ended up being Parvo He is fine fit and healthy now and back to normal thankgod. I hope he is feeling better ;)
  19. Jeanne Tyson is a Staffy ..... I have tried to post a pic up but it did not work
  20. I dont like to vacc as well but what do you do when you have to board your animal
  21. Tyson is on the BARF diet. I dont give him any commerical food at all as it makes him sick. He is 13 weeks old
