Hope you get some answers on tuesday. Poor little bloke, horrible to be itchy like that all the time.

If you have had a puppy die from parvo how long before you can get another pup. I friend of my sons, recently had his 8 wo pup die and now is talking about getting another. Need some facts to give him so it doesnt happen again
We are led to believe that it can live in the ground for many years.
The most important thing is, to make sure the next puppy is vaccinated correctly.
The chances of another puppy being infected I think would be low as long as it is vaccinated.
If it were me I would not want the pup till it was at least 3 months and had, a second vaccination or a titer test done in this case.
Yep, I'd at least wait until the new pup is fully vacinated and covered before bringing it into an area that had parvo.

Champs Dad, that is the very same link that ~Anne~ posted above so you both must be in agreement that it is appropos here!! :D
Maybe you guys are right, we should perhaps ask Troy to consider pinning that thread?
Ah whoops, reading threads (and checking links) properly is obviously not one of my strong points :D
My greedy puppy has done this twice in his life and both times an unchewed biscuit popped out shortly after, almost as though he had inhaled it and it was stuck in his nasal passage.Obviously that's not exactly the case for you but it does sound as though she's got something in her nasal passage thats annoying her. I'd be inclined to agree with the grass seed idea. Or something along those lines.
Fingers crossed for you that if you do go ahead with the scope it's not a wasted procedure.
I did go ahead with the scope a couple of weeks ago. Nothing found in the nose or throat. I'm pleased as it also ruled out cancer.
Since the scope she has stopped which is great but annoying as I never got a definitive answer as to what it was.
My other dog reverse sneezes. This snorting was different as it actually sounded like her nasal passage was blocked.
Oh well it appears to have sorted itself out.
Pity you didn't get to find out the cause. I hate it when that happens, but at least your dog seems okay now. Bet you've got a nice credit card bill coming soon too!

We use a pantry cupboard for food, coats, grooming stuff, dogs camping gear, etc and leads hang down the side on big hooks.

I found two by fluke on ebay, really cheap a few months ago.

Just found this while looking for something else.

Can anyone confirm that these cases are in known vaccinated dogs.
The cases I have seen personally (3 in the past few weeks) have all been unvaccinated puppies less than 4 months of age.
What are people thinking!

I got one of those battery operated nail trimmers from the cheap shop... and love it!

P&P, what do you feed your dog now?
He is currently on Science Diet Z/D Allergen Free. Before this I was making him a homemade diet of veges, roo meat and wholegrain rice for approx 3 months and before that he has always eaten Science Diet dry food with raw bones about once a week.
I'd like to change his diet when/if we get to the bottom of what the problem is but have been having a hard time navigating through all the conflicting ideas on diet.
Take him off the Science Diet! I had Champ on the same thing and he started to get better once he was off it. I went back to basics with chicken and rice, cooked and drained the chicken so it was a bit gentler on his system.
I would NOT be putting vinegar on your dog, that would sting! Calendula would be the best way to go at the moment. Thanks for posting the instructions Erny, I was going to look for them

I'm a big fan of glucosamin and chondroitin powder, you can get it from the chemist. My dog has had major improvements since starting on it about 6 months ago.
Make sure your dog has lots of rest post surgery. Hope all goes well for him

A dog acting hungry isn't a sign that it's not being fed enough, nor that it is unhappy. I can assure you that my little garbage guts is still happy despite the fact that she acts like she hasn't been fed in days, even if she's just had her dinner And best of all she is lean, fit, healthy and looks great!
The bolded bit ... so true! Your dog is overweight because youre feeding her too much. Cut back on the amount and she'll loose the weight. Bulk up with grated carrot. Feed morning and night to help her metabolism (half the daily amount am and pm).
My girl has certainly turned into a keg since she was desexed. I have taken her off dry food and am now feeding her barf, am trying to keep her to half a pattie a day but I find she frequently throws up bile. Feeding her a bit of knibble prevents this but does nothing for her diet. Could I add carrot and cut out the knibble or should I also cut down on the barf. She is a one year old Lhasa. If she's throwing up bile she probably needs several small meals a day. If you find that feeding a bit of dry food reduces the throwing up, do that and just reduce the amount from her main meal, maybe bulk it up a bit with grated carrot. Or as you said, try some carrot instead of the dry food.

I wonder if it was the goats milk?

would vaseline help?

I wouldn't bath him in any medicated shampoos, his skin needs to be soothed.
I would make sure he does not have any coulour, flavours or preservatives in his diet.
Check his bedding, remove any hession and wool bedding. If you aren't already using cotton, I'd switch to that and also make sure you washing powder is for sensitive people.
If he's scratching that crazily, put cotton socks on his back feet and bandage them up, so he at least can't use his claws to further damage his skin.
Thanks for replying. This might be upsetting to some people, but Oscar has been sleeping on our bed. It is not his habitual sleeping place - but we feel very sorry for his and he loves sleeping on the bed. Cotton sheets. I will make sure I cover the couches in cotton too. Thanks also for the sock tip. I hadn't thought of that. I'll need to put it on his front and back leg as he uses both. He doesn't scratch all the often but tends to rub his face in whatever he can find with the occasional foot scratch
I have tried all sorts of diets of late but am thinking of trying vets all natural complete mix next. I don't know whether I should use chicken or roo. I have heard red meats are not great for sensitive dogs.
I have read that people use calendula tea to soothe itchy or inflamed skin. I am interested in trying this but don't want to aggravate his skin anymore than it is.
Poor Oscar, sounds awful for him Heaps of good suggestions so far. My dog Champ had bad allergies too. As mentioned, cut out the shampoos and medications and try the calendua bath. No preservatives, artificial colours, etc in food, I'd advise cutting out dry food all together for the moment. Do not start him on the vets all natural mix!
Hope you get some answers soon, good luck.
