  1. Only a moron whould consider her anthing other than a moron. You don't have to be a Liberal voter to work that out.
  2. If I was her I wouldn't be getting too settled. Once the Australian voter gets an opportunity to have his/her say we will see the removal vans lining up.
  3. After the most recent attack by a Pit-bull (Pit-bull Cross) recently in Melbourne I have done some reading on this breed. What is clearly evident is that these dogs instinctively fight. This has been bred into them over many generations. There have certainly been many instances over the years where animals that seem to be well balanced and have been maintained in a stable and well managed environment all of a sudden snap and the result is either injured people or other animals. Even when reviewing the breed characteristics from this rescue site in the USA, there are aspects of their personality I find alarming and certainly not conducive to life in a normal suburban environment. http://www.pbrc.net/breedinfo.html. How many times have we been told by the owner of a dog that has attached that it was a warm loving animal that was good with the kids until ................ Over the years I have owned a Boxer, a Dachshund. an Irish setter, two English Cocker Spaniels, a Basenji, a Golden Retriever and 2 Curly Coated retrievers. As such I have some experience with dogs but no experience with dogs of this nature. Personally, when considering the number of wonderful dog breeds available and what I am hoping to gain from dog ownership, I would never consider Pit-bull ownership. I realise that individuals such as drug dealers like this breed as it helps maintain their privacy and also the ownership of animals of this temperament appeal to their thuggish nature. What I cannot understand I why someone would take the risk and introduce an animal of this nature to a young family or keep it in a normal urban environment?

  5. Glad things are going well. Be extra vigilant as they approach sexual maturity - if you're going to see issues, odds are it's then that they'll start. Will probably get the boys desexed at 6 months. We are keeping out a vigilant eye on them in this area. They wrestle and mouth each other when playing but there has been no signs of any aggression so far. Six months is pretty young for a large gundog. Yes - I agree. Would like to leave it much longer. The determining thing here is will be dictated by their behaviour. If they continue to get on and don't show any aggression towards each other the I will certaonly wait longer.

  7. We have now had the dog for about seven weeks. Both are doing extremely well. I certainly have some concerns regarding the interdependence issue but this is something we will have to work on. Dogs have both bonded exceptionally well with my wife and myself. Due to the immunisation issue, we have only socialised them over the last three weeks (apart from the three week puppy class). Both dogs have now commenced obedience training and are progressing well. They both sleep in a garden shed fitted with a doggie door that was purpose built for our old dog. Took them both to a fenced off bay beach over the weekend. Both played well with other dogs off leash and returned to us when called. So far - so good. Love the nature of the Curlies. Last Saturday at a local footy match they were approached by a friends three year old son. They were both very respectful and gentle and were more than happy being in his company. They are very quite much of the time and are quite and very reserved. My garden is a mess - a small price to pay for experiencing these two boys. To help in socialising we also regularly take them to the local strip shopping centre, have taken them to farmers markets and walk them on lead in a large leash free park in our area. Early days so far and we realise that that we need to intensively train these boys but they get on with each other and us very well and there are no signs of any issues.
  8. This is Angus & Freddie. They are 11 week old Curly Coated Retrievers. We have had them home now for just over a week. They both have excellent temperaments and we are very happy with them. They are quite cheeky and have already started to bond with us. The garden is looking the worst for wear but it was designed as a dog tolerant garden and all of the items will grow back after the initial onslaught. Apart from being family pets we intend to do obedience training and and eventually field retrieving work with them.
  9. We adopted a very LARGE purebred Golden Retriever 9 years ago. Unfortunately 10 weeks ago he died (PTS) of cancer and we are still mourning his loss. Toby was a rescue dog and we were his third owners. In the initial ownership period it was obvious that Toby had been abused by his previous owners. Owning Toby was very rewarding on many levels and he was much loved by all the family. One of things that really stood out with Toby was the fact that he very much recognised the love and attention we gave him and it was very obvious that he recognised his good fortune in living with us. He always went out of his way to please us and all love given was warmly responded too. He really did seem to value his releationship with us. (I know this sounds strange but it something that my wife and I discussed a number of times when he was still with us) Whilst I have not opted for a rescue dog (as I have done 3 times in the past) on this occasion I have found it most rewarding. Have a great life with Dory - sounds like you deserve each other!
  10. We are picking up our Curly Coat Retriever pups in the beginning of July. One is called Freddie (Freddie Mercury - Queen) and the other is Angus (Angus Young AC/DC). = 4+ weeks to go.
  11. Both. Wife walks the dog in the am by herself and we both walk in the evening during the week. We both normally walk twice on the weekends.
  12. In the past I have owned a number of purebred dogs but the three most recent dogs have been rescued. After loosing our much loved Toby - a Golden Retriever some 10 weeks ago we initially considered getting another rescue dog. As Toby was such a hard act to follow and we could not find a rescue pet that ticked all the boxes (emotionally and otherwise) my wife suggested another specific retriever breed. I am fully aware of some of the health issues that purebred dogs have encountered over the years. I have witnessed neighbours and other dog owners in the area loose out emotionally and financially due to them purchasing an animal with major medical issues. I was very encouraged to observe that joints / hips are now accessed as well as the eyes being checked. Whilst searching for an animal I looked in a number of places. I certainly did not wish to deal with a puppy farm or a pet shop for obvious reasons. I did view adverts in the Trading Post and other Internet sites but I did not have confidence in the quality of dogs being put up for sale and discounted these sites. I eventually stumbled upon this site which is dedicated to purebreds. I certainly understand that buying a dog that is advertised on this site is no guarantee of quality. I also feel that if you do your research, ensure that the dog and bitch have been thoroughly tested, purchase an animal that shows varied breeding lines with good show success historically and has been bred by a long term breeder you are on the right track. We now have to wait another 4 long weeks until I can collect out puppies.
  13. Puppy at 4 weeks. Collecting at 10 weeks. Also no bitches available from litter and prefer males in any case.
