  1. Question "oh, where did you get your rescue dog from, she is so skinny" Reply" she is a pure bred whippet"" Oh, gosh, she needs to be fed doesn't she!! It is unbelievable the amount of times I have been asked this, also if she is a miniature greyhound !
  2. Well my parents have adopted the beautiful Sheena from save a dog. She has only been there for a few hours but has already settled in. She can sit, stay, shake hands, and travels in the car beautiful. I would love to know her previous life and why on earth her previous owners never came looking for her. As the lady said from save a dog, all the dogs here are someone's dogs , they just don't want them any more. She has come from Latrobe pound in Melbourne to save a dog after serving her 8 days. I know she will have a great life with my parents and get lots of whippet plays with my girl.
  3. Hi, My parents are after a dog to feel the void after their beloved shitzu cross was sadly put down Easter Sunday. She was 15 and a diabetic, my dad gave her insulin twice a day for 5 years. Wags the 10 yr old Japanese Chin is heartbroken. He is a male and they are after a smallish female dog. No puppies. The dogs live a mixture of in and out and go every weekend to the holiday house at the beach. My mum walks Wags every day for about 45 mins. She has been to the RSPCA but did not like the 'vibe' from there. My parents are in Melbourne so would like to know if any rescue groups may have any suitable dogs for them. They would be after a small to medium dog, no staffies or staffie crosses as my mum is scared of them after being rushed many years ago whilst out walking. IIdeally probably a terrier but not a constant yapper! Thanks in advance
  4. Ha ha mumtoshelley, she looks like she has just been dragged out of bed!! Good night Missy, you can go to sleep now!
  5. I agree Sir WJ, I love seeing Lola all snugged up in red coat when it is below zero outside. She always looks so toasty and warm and can barely be bothered moving out of her crate in the morning as I am sure she is too comfy! If only I could be like a whippet all day lounging around in the sun on the couch " sigh"
  6. Does a weatherbeta off the rack fit your whippet mum to shelley or did you modify it.? I had done a lot of research before I bought mine from whippet wear as the ones I looked at were too short in neck and length not right. Lola my whippet is a 12 month old 12.5 kg female.
  7. That's a shame. I too have 2 coats I bought this winter from whippet wear, and have had no problems. Lola is a female so I dont have any leg cocking problems.! I do find their quality good as Lola likes to give hers a good workout. When I spoke to the lady she said if the whippet was not pure bred from a registered breeder but from a backyard bred whippet then it is of a different statue etc and the coat will not fit properly as it will be outside the standard. Unsure if this is your scenario or not....... I think you will struggle to buy a coat off the rack for a whippet...... hope you can work it out

    Whippet

Re posted in correct thread :)
  9. I use a Black Dog harness for my Whippet. It is great and also Australian made. You can get it to connect direct into your seat belt with a latch or where you tie it around the seat belt. I had to get the latter as Volvo cars are made to only take a Volvo seat belt! unsure if you are in Melbourne but I took Lola down to be fitted. If not they are very helpful on the phone and post out the same day.
  10. I was asked at obedience where i had got my "poor looking rescue dog from"..... I then explained that she is very well bred pure bred whippet from a registered breeder! I was then told that I hope she fattens up soon and doesn't look so sick.......I didn't know wether to laugh out loud or shake my head. I bit my tongue and carried on training....
  11. Just remembered that our was the brand Thunderbird , a bright yellow box.
  12. I feel your frustration. Our kelpie (rip) was a serial escape artist, this was why she was probably at the pound! After exhausting all avenues and even getting to the stage of talking ton the vet about euthanizing her my local produce man suggested an electric fence. We paid approx $250 for the box and the white taping. We ran two lines, one at her waist height and one at a height if she jumped up on her hind legs it would zap. Well it worked! She only tried it twice and both times she got zapped and let out a yelp. Over time we just turned it off. We moved house three times and each time we just took it down and put it back up. We had tried chicken wire, lattice everything but to no avail. She would wait until we drove out the door and would scale the fence, brick, wood or wire. She had a border collie for a playmate but it made no difference. Is suggest you give it a go, you may be able to pick up one on eBay ?
  13. Black Dog Wear with the stainless steal option on the rings and clip.
  14. I too have pro sure for my whippetpuppy. Unfortunately I have had to claim for a lacerated ear operation and a case of haemorraghic(sp?) gastro with a day in animal emergency. I have claimed all my puppy vacs and heart worm tablets. Best thing is I have received a cheque back within 7 days of the claim being received by them, I was most surprised!!!!
