  1. thanks for all the posts. please see my responses below: we've looked into places like dogs bed and breakfast before and aren't entirely comfortable as i don't think they have any qualifications or insurance if your dog goes missing etc. in terms of house-sitters - i know a lot of people use them but we're not too keen on having a stranger stay at our place. we are going to go inspect mornington lodge tomorrow - can anyone provide more info on what they're like if they've used them before? the recommendations were a little short on details we are based in eastern suburbs. cheers! will post back to update on how we go tomorrow
  2. if that is all they feed- that is not a 'good diet' . I hope you find somewhere nice for your little dog perhaps i should have said 'includes' human grade mince. in any case, they don't feed supermarket brand food and he is always very happy when we pick him up. any kennel recommendations would be appreciated.
  3. Hi, We just booked a two week holiday over next Easter (2012) and thought that 6 months would be plenty of notice to book our little dog into his usual kennel at Beds for Tails in Bittern. However, they apparently book up over this period years in advance! I have been surfing the net for at least 2hrs looking for something similar to Beds for Tails but can't find anything like it! I'm hoping someone will be able to help recommend a good place with similar services to Beds for Tails within the Greater Melbourne area. Key reasons we love Beds for Tails: - Only take upto 20 dogs at any one time - Unrestricted access from room to garden play area - Able to socialise with other small dogs of good temperament - Fed a good diet of human grade mince - very clean facilities - constant human interaction throughout the day - grooming prior to pick up included - lovely, caring staff with vet nursing experience - someone on-site 24hrs a day - they normally match a good playmate for the duration of our dog's stay if anyone can recommend a good place that doesn't have cages, concrete floors and restricted exercise times i would be really, really grateful.
  4. Hi there, I'm new to this forum and was just looking for some opinions. We are considering taking an interstate holiday and need to drive around 10hrs to get there (main reason is to get k's up on a leased vehicle). I had originally planned to take our little dog with us but I'm having a lot of trouble finding suitable dog friendly accommodation that will allow him to be inside, with fenced yard etc. So I guess we are considering 2 options: we could leave in at his usual kennel but this is 1.5hrs in the wrong direction for where we are going or I've found quite a nice kennel near where we are going and is half the price of our usual place! I want to do the best thing for our dog so I'm wondering how stressful it would be for him to be in the car and then left at a kennel? People always tell me that dogs love going to the kennels (this is a 10 dog only place and looks really nice - not cages with concrete floors) so it would be like dropping him off for a holiday but I'm not sure...i like the idea that he will be close by in case anything happens and obviously it's more convenient and cheaper for us but I would not do it if it might be a traumatic experience for him. Please let me know your thoughts!
