  1. this brought tears to my eyes :D ;) fantastic photo, go Ruby ! Congratulations also to Kaizer and Amypie, so sorry we only got to watch the end of your run but you really should have got it with the fantatsic run the other week so it was only a matter of time... Well Done :D
  2. more of the same tonight then ? oops sorry remembered you are entered will be there cheering you on !
  3. That would be so funny she still trains her gun dogs according to a recent programme I saw, and stays out in the field till every last dog is home.
  4. Yeah I was going to leave it a day to see how it went and I am so glad I just made the decision to take him to the vet that day, we didn't even know what a hot spot was... Here is a face on pic beautiful goldy
  5. usually I just chuck it on like sprinkling with talcum powder I would have done that for the goldy featured in the topic. I usually give a nice bath with no chemicals first and sometimes wipe with baby wipes the immediate area around the sore ( if I can't bathe ) If the dog can easily reach the spot then I watch like a hawk and sometimes use a bandage If I have to bandage I make a paste with water. I also discovered that food allergy can cause these nasties, well one of many causes.
  6. I have always used bicarb, it has always worked. I have never trimmed back or used antibiotics and I mean on a variety of dogs. I first saw them on my malamute, called a friend, used the bicarb..miracle.. Since then a lot of breeds have passed through here with them, never taken to a vet and always the same result.
  7. My Rusky just loved apples, we often used to share one .. bet she has a massive apple tree to lie under at the bridge and catches the windfalls
  8. Am so jealous - So which shires are you with (what state) - my shire would be the worst on record - we have 5 or 6 rangers (opps sorry they like to be called bi-laws officers) and we have the biggest shire in Vic - but even so they seem to cause so much tension with people over dogs in the shire. Just one example - We recently had a Pet Expo in our shire - what a joke and waste of money, the shire "bi-law officers" didnt do anything about organising until 1 week before and only after the local paper had made mention of it. I had to make about 8 calls and email just to be able to attend and even then they had done virtually no advertising - so hardly anyone knew it was on...... Oh about 5 Bi-laws officers sat on their backsides in a tent and didnt walk around and introduce themselves or anything - instead they paid the lollypop ladies to walk around in a pet expo t-shirt and answer questions? Would love to know how to get my shire into gear! we are in WA and we do have some good shires regarding dogs, some are not so good The one thing I don't actually like is the rangers talk. I feel that they are preaching the dog act to the converted, some rangers though are very good with their talk and are open to suggestions from the group and advise them how to approach the council to implement stuff in their shire. I think it helps if rangers actually like animals ...and people. I can understand that they see a lot of stuff whcih will make them angry and that probably doesn't help when you have been in the job a few years. I honestly could not do their job. I think though that WA shires are starting to get the idea of compulsary micro chip but till it is in the dog act they are not required to scan by law...I mean they do as they want to see as many dogs as possible returned to their owners but we need compulsary chipping here. There will always be tension but this relationship has seen so many good things come out of the training that it can only be a good thing both for dogs and owners.
  9. poor little dog, have you tried a rescue group as I have suggested twice now ?
  10. OP leave the thread and run for cover gee I bet you are sorry you asked for help because the majority are making mountains out of a simple abandonment which in rescue happens on a daily basis. Call a rescue group , get some advice for your state, which is really what I said before...and thank you for caring for this wee dog. Good luck.
  11. good for you ! you can contact a rescue group in your area when the puppies are born to see if they will help you rehome them after 8 weeks ( call them earlier though) Congratulations for saving a poor wee dog.. get some advice for her pregnancy for her and the puppies to make sure she is getting correct nutrition, sorry can't help there but rescue will help you
  12. I train for a companion class which is run by three shires in conjunction with dogs west, we wish it were more. Rangers can refer dogs to the class, the ad runs in the community section of the paper and also CAWA refers dogs who are out of the ring due to a problem during a show. It can be an interesting mix. At the end of the 10 weeks some people enjoy training so much they join a local dog club for obedience or agility or sledding etc, plus they love to know they are not alone with their problems and forge friendships both canine and human.
  13. ahhh has got a bit out of control has it ok Moselle absolutely no one is attacking your husband or partner, well I ain't I saw this as a lighthearted thread. Will nick off now
  14. Ideally, I would love to have another two dogs in the house, not all 7 of them. As far as divorcing him over this matter......I don't think so as this is the only hitch that we have.....there is every possibility that your hubby may have qualities about him that I would baulk at, lol. I doubt it he is a fantastic husband which is why we are still together after 37 years He may be a fantastic husband Rusky but that is a matter of perception, in other words.....he may be the perfect husband for you but that isn't to say that every other woman in this world would find him to be as fantastic as you do, lol; I bet that he may have certain idiosyncrasies that may not appeal to other people; the same applies to every individual in this world, what suits one person doesn't suit the other, e.g. my friend's husband is the perfect husband to her but I know that I would not be able to put up with his ways, I find him totally irritating. ;) and I thought this was a lighthearted thread

  16. If you go to a dog park with off leash dogs and you are worried then you shouldn't go there. You don't know the reason the dogs had a muzzle on. The dogs were just being dogs and from your post it would seem that there were dog walkers.. not just one walker. Dogs who need to be muzzled because maybe they have a thing about birds or other creatures still need a run. The dogs didn't attack anyone, I don't see what the problem is. Mind you I did tell a lady to put a muzzle on her dog because it was a magnet dog and she got distressed because in the street or park all and sundry would run up to it. Doesn't happen now...people stay their distance and the dog gets separate social time with dogs it can cope with.
  17. wonderful, thank you. Amber and your handler you are fantastic whoever you are
  18. if mine were like that he would be divorced and he knows it. He had never had a dog till he met me but he learned fast that they are family members and as such share our space.
  19. Ian Dunbar in the USA is a behaviourist he has spent hundreds and hundreds of hours studying and quantifying animal / dog behaviour, he is a vet, he has a great website, he even gives free downloads on his website. Yet still on this forum people will dismiss him. http://www.dogstardaily.com/ and when I tell people there are no behaviourists in WA, they don't believe me because basically anyone can say they are anything. Not all trainers suit all people, not all trainers can help you but any worth their salt will point you in the right direction towards someone they believe can help you...
  20. koalabear your dog is stunning ! my daughter has a kelpie lBC cross, she is very sooky and also very full on. She has had her share of issues but having said that is very easy to train and loves to do anything asked of her. She loves my Mr G and also her shar pei cross brother. She loves everyone actually.
  21. beautiful, just beautiful ...
  22. very cute she looks a sweetie. I promote pure breeds to all and sundry. I have always had pure breed dogs but Mr G came to me as a foster and I couldn't let him go. Cross breeds are very interesting. I do sometimes find myself saying...now that is the retriever in him...now that is the kelpie ... as like people dogs get traits from their parents. Actually shhh pssst everyone put their fingers in their ears ... ok just for you loungefly ...all purebreeds started life as a cross except maybe the greyhound I think my malamute was pretty close to her original DNA too but my goldens ...well just go read about them and they are comparitively speaking a recently accepted cross breed as a pure breed. ;) I agree the kelpie labs are fabulous ...
  23. I have a kelpie x lab ... I think photos please here is Mr Guinness
