  1. Our puppy got these at 4 months. Vet decided it was a secondary infection to an allergic reaction. He went on a course of antibiotics for 10 days and they cleared up.

I would take her to the vet - but first have a realllly good think about what else has happened - has she been somewhere new, a park, beach etc? Met and played with a new dog? Taken her to someones house? Have you recently washed her bedding and in what detergent? Has she had any new treats?

  2. I read somewhere also the 5min per month of age (but in saying that i wouldn't be "exercising" a pup much younger than 4 months). Our Staffy pup goes for leisurely walks most days for 20 - 25min, he loves it, it isn't stressfull on him and he's learning to walk on his lead really nicely.

  3. If she's burrying them instead of eating i'd also be inclined to think she's just not hungry? I can send you over some of Arby's appetite if you like, he's certainly got enough to go around ;)

It's said that a healthy dog won't starve its self. I'd say keep doing what you're doing and don't encourage her to be picky by giving her the fancy stuff if she doesn't eat the regular meal. I think we often force our views of whats good for the dog on to it, if she is self regulating her diet it must be for a reason!

Alternatively i guess it couldn't hurt to take her to the vets and get some blood work done to see if she's lacking in anything that could be contributing to the lack of appetite (if you're really worried!)

  4. My staffy pup was 12kg at 4 months (and is 14.5 at 5 months now.. the vet thinks he could lose a bit).

If your little one is happy, has energy and doesn't look lacking in any other area i wouldn't be TOO worried. Have you tried giving her some raw yummy meat? Our pup LOVES his chicken wings (once he worked out how to eat them!)

  5. Hi Dol'ers,

My puppy has been diagnosed with mites (demodex). I'm quickly learning a lot about these little critters. He has medicine from the Vet which will hopefully kill the mites, however i'd like to also give him something to help his immune system (my understanding of mites is that most dogs, especially puppies, have mites but that they only cause problems when the pup's immune system is compromised allowing them to spread at take over!).

Though mites sounds a bit yuck, I'm glad we finally have an answer as to what it is (we did an elimination diet, environment etc).

I'd love to hear some suggestions on what i can give him to help his body out. His diet is good and is fed a combination of dry / tinned / raw of good quality.

He is an SBT and almost 5 months old. (Pic enjoying his weekly Malaseb bath...not)

    All the best,

  6. Our 4.5month old Staffy pup is on three meals a day still. I think he will stay that way until 6 or so months. (Ok sometimes its two if im stuck with a client all afternoon and don't get home for lunch, but it is rare).

Meals aren't a specific time - breakfast is 0700 to 0740ish. Lunch is 1230 to 1400ish and dinner 1800 to 1900 ish. Depends on what other stuff is happening. He doesn't sook or whine for his food, and he's not allowed to carry on while im dishing it up either.

  7. Thanks Raffikki, i didn't think of the greyhound club. I have sent them an email so hoepfully they will be able to recommend someone :)

Persephone - I wish it was but he is definately a banana (though i do love the way you described the crazy excited wiggly waggy walk!)

  8. We got one of those pens from ozskyway on Ebay for our Staffy puppy (but bigger i think ours was a 40"?) We only used it when he was inside with us but to stop him from running all over the house before he was fully house trained. We used it from 8 weeks - 14 weeks (at which time he was about 10kg at 14 weeks).

It was actually very sturdy and did the job great. if its inside not pegged down sure it moves a little if they flop down against it but they're not going to tip it over or get out of it in a hurry. i was very happy with ours and did the job.

  9. Thanks for the info everyone, it is much easier to research when i know what it's called! Funnily "puppy moves like a banana" doesn't yield much usefull info!

If i can find a chiro in Darwin i will definately get him looked at. I know with the ponies uneven movement that's not dealt with can cause all sorts of related problems down the track so it has me a little concerned.

He is certainly not a show animal just a well loved pet but i don't want him to have problems down the track that could have been avoided :)
