  1. Going to the Dogs in Burnley Street, Richmond. I havent taken my dog there myself, but i know the owner breeds and shows Poodles.
  2. Banksia Park in Bulleen is great! Citizens park in Richmond is good with a number of outdoor cafes along Bridge Road also.
  3. After taking my dog to another daycare centre for about a year, I switched him over to Diggity Doggy Daycare in Sth Melb and am really glad I did. As cosmolo pointed out their dog to human ratio is really good and the girls are an absolute delight. If you're in the area, pop in for a look! Can't recommend them highly enough.
  4. Hi everyone, I just wanted your opinion if you would get a crate / dog house in our situation. I live in an apartment and Shengo - a chow chow - has his own room in our wintergarden which is quite large and next to our bedroom. At night when we go to sleep he will go in his room, however during the day will occassionally sleep under our dining table or try and fit under the coffee table. I wonder if the wintergarden is too large a space and if a crate or dog house would be more ideal? What are your thoughts? Thanks P
  5. Hi, Just wondering if anyone in Melbourne has taken their dogs to the snow? Where are they allowed? Are permits required? I know Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain is off limits.. but what about Hotham, Buller etc? Thanks P
  6. A rabbit soft toy with a squeaker in its belly. His most expensive toy, that's for sure!
  7. I did pay for it. I agree with others,i would not want to buy a toy another dog had in its mouth.. however he had only just picked it up. It had been in his mouth for less then 20 secs so was def not chewed up or anything. If i had given him the toy, or he had picked it up off the shelf, i dont think it was unreasonable that i pay for it.. but something that was on the ground?? I actually walk him away from the shelves for this reason. There were about 3 other dogs in the store the same time we were. The soft toy was a rabbit so its become his Easter present! I initially thought she was joking, but no she was dead serious. But i am curious - has anyone come across this same situation? Is this the norm? I couldnt find anywhere that it was "store policy" despite being told this by the staff member.
  8. I went to the pet store on Saturday with my dog and as we were walking through the toy aisle, he picks up a soft toy off the ground just as the sales assistant walks past. She then tells me that i am obliged to purchase it as it is in his mouth. At $30 - this is insane, but i do so nonetheless. I am curious though, is this reasonable/the norm?
  9. Thanks for everyone's responses. Sounds like nappy bags are the way to go. I assume the best place to buy these would be at Coles/Woolies? Im currently using the Bags on Board ones from the petstore which were $20 for 8 rolls.. and with a dog that does mulitple poops a walk.. they dont last long at all. My preference is definitely biodegradable! I assumed these were?
  10. Hi All, I was just wondering where everyone buys their dog waste disposal bags? I previously bought some in the clean run - free shipping sale before xmas but am almost finished all those ones. The local pets warehouse sells 4 rolls (15 bags each) for $10 which is a complete rip off! seeing as the same ones are only $3.50 at Clean Run... however with shipping included, this doesnt work out to be all that economical. So.. any suggestions? surely theres a cheaper alternative?

  12. On Saturday i bought some food for the boy at Footscray Market. Chicken feet were $2kg and chicken heart/liver/giblets were $3.50kg if anyone was interested.
  13. Shengo - named after Kim Kardashian's Australian bodyguard! Funny thing is, hes anything but a bodyguard! Friendliest chow ever.
  14. I dont think he's interested in breeding for the money. The only thing he says is how its such a good looking dog, so cute etc. I think he'll just give the pups away to his friends - the same way he got given this dog. I have a strangely close relationship with my brother. I can talk openly about things with him - but there are just some things that i cant seem to get through to him.. like this for example! Im not worried about this straining our relationship at all. Reality is, he'll probably be upset for 5 minutes.. give me a hard time for getting him desexed, ill tell him how irresponsible he is .. then he'll forget it ever happened. I am not in a position to home the dog. I have a dog myself.. and to be honest - im not a fan of small dogs. Understand everyone's opinion that i should not get involved.. but its really not fair on the dog. I doubt my brother would be able to prove ownership anyway, plus i dont think it would get that nasty. You have to remember - he doesnt care about this dog to abandon it the way that he has - so unlikely he will pursue this in the court of law! =/ I wont rehome the dog - i think i might be pushing it at the moment..
  15. Im not actually sure what breed the dog is. The best way i can describe him is a miniature border collie. He's a gorgeous dog! He got him from a friend who's dog had pups.
  16. Sadly, i doubt he's microchipped! I just had my chow desexed and undergo a bout of hotspots - so im not in a position to pay for him to be desexed. My parents will have to pay for this.. Plus they will have to look after him following the procedure so they'll definitely know. Do you think i should look into getting him rehomed? is this a possibility?
  17. I just want everyone's opinion on what i should do...if anything. My older brother got a dog about a year, maybe a year and a half ago. Him and his girlfriend had the dog for a few months and have since decided theres no place for it at their house, so its been dumped at my parents! The dog has never been socialised or trained and is just basically neglected.. (although they were considerate enough to arrange for him to be clipped last week by a mobile groomer!) My parents arent really dog people and other then feeding him and walking him 3-4 times a week.. its really left by itself. A few weeks ago during a conversation with my brother he mentioned that he wanted to breed with this dog! I scolded him and told him how irresponsible it was etc.. and he quietened down, so i thought my message got across to him. unfortunately not! just the other week he mentioned it again.. so... im in 2 minds.. im tempted to take it to the vets and have it desexed myself!! i really think the dog should be rehomed.. i dont know what to do.. but i feel like i have to do something...
