    Wet stitches

Hi all quick question, we have a 10 week old rescue pup. The rescue place desexed him before we picked him up and he is due to have his stitches out on Monday. today he has decided to try and jump into a mini pool we have for the older dog. My question is, because he still has stitches in, will getting them wet cause any issues ? The wound itself should be healed.
  2. thanks for the advice everyone. Much appreciated! I'll be taking her out for a play date over the weekend so fingers crossed it goes well! Just need to be careful she doesn't re-open the wounds that are still closing up as she loves to run around and play like a mad thing sometimes! Wife is still pretty shaken but she's ok. Will be a fair while before she walks the dog on her own though I think. once again, thanks heaps for the great advice guys!
  3. Happened near port Macquarie in nsw. Walking in town and they come running out of the owners property onto the street to attack. The dogs owner told us they were bull Arabs he used for pig hunting. It is the negligence of the owner that annoys me the most! Please note I don't want this to turn into a breed debate. We have nothing against this breed at all, it just happened that these particular ones were bull Arabs. Thanks for the replies guys!
  4. Hi All, Monday afternoon my wife took our dog (red cattle dog) on an afternoon walk when they were rushed and attacked by 4 dog's. They got stuck into my dog pretty badly and as a result she has a few deep puncture wounds on her neck, side and chest. my wife is still very shaken up and we are both devastated! we rushed her to the vet who checked her over and gave us anti-biotic and anti inflamitories etc and said to pay close attention to her breathing due to the location and depth of the bite wound on her side. She will make a full recovery thank god. I'm just wanting to ask 1) is there anything else I should be looking out for over the next week or 2 ? (I know to look out for things like infection and breathing etc) 2) our dog has always loved playing with other dogs, but I am a little concerned how she will react now that this has happened to her, any tips on re-introducing her back to her doggy friends once she's recovered ? she may be fine and I'm just a worry wart, but can't hurt to be prepared. Cheers all. Ven
  5. my girl is 25kg and she is purebred (papers, ANKC registered) according to vet she is ideal weight. Thats 10KG over that
  6. we had 1 incident where we were walking along the beach when a staffy (breed is besides the point) came steaming down the beach at us. I must admit i didn't really give it much thought at first as its not uncommon at this beach, i told my dog to sit and she waited for it to come over. As it got closer i noticed it's body language wasn't good. Then coming running out of the beach access track was the dog's owner waving madly. We stood our ground and the staffy pulled up at my dog and then went at her. My dog doesn't fight and is a very friendly dog, but in circumstances like this, she will react to defend us and herself, so she reacted by standing her ground and going back at it. i Grabbed my dog, gave the staffy a boot in the backside and walked off (no one got hurt thank god). then as we were getting in the car, the owner came over to say sorry. The owner expressed his frustration that his dog wasn't friendly to other dog's but said that it usually doesn't go charging at other dog's. I was quite peeved with him by this stage and told him that if his dog wasn't friendly around other dogs, HE SHOULDN'T BRING IT TO AN OFF LEASH BEACH moral of the story, it is the owners responsibility to have their dog under control at all times. If you are unable to control your dog when it's off the lead, then keep it on the lead!!! i would like to stress, that it's got nothing to do with a particular breed. It's irresponsible owners. just my 2 cents worth!
  7. Pig's ear's don't last long here either - all though Gypsy loves them. Raw turkey necks go down good, and last a little bit longer :)
