  1. Agree about checking for soreness. And I would combine the getting visitors to ignore, with having them casually toss good treats away from themselves, into an area where she can find them - while they keep ignoring her. Then you can see whether she shows any interest in the treats - if she does, I'd keep going with that - letting the visitors toss/drop the treats progressively a bit closer to themselves. You'll only be able to do this one with very patient and cooperative visitors :) - and it's important they don't try to push the pup over threshold - i.e. not too close too soon.

You'd be using your yummiest treats - ones that you yourselves normally wouldn't give her. And maybe just a short session - then leave her alone - then another session later.

Great, I will try this. Thank you :)

  2. Does she react the same if they come through the front door or is it just the gate??

Does she react the same if you take the dog out the front & greet the same people ??

    Is she sterilized??

Also agree with others she needs to be ignored but using food treats to just build some enjoyment of people

You have to enter my yard through the gate first to get to the front door.

I am always with her when greeting the visitors, maybe I can try greet them first before she see's them?

She is fully vaccinated and desexed.

  3. Thanks, I have heard of this.

I have been asking visitors to call her over to see if she will come but I only ask them to do it once.

I'm really hoping it is just a phase and she will outgrow it.. It certainly is not like her to show fear, especially when we are at the gate greeting the visitors with her.

  4. Hi everyone,

My 9 month old Amstaff x has started showing fear to new visitors to my house. These visitors are well known to myself and my partner - one being my partners brother who just moved to town.

The person will come in through our front gate and she will go up to them like she is interested, then ears go back, tail between legs and she runs away keeping a good distance between her and the guest. She doesn't growl. She then comes close to the visitor to give them a sniff and if the visitor calls her or tries to pat her she backs away.

She watches my other dog getting pats and stuff but again only comes close for a sniff then backs away.

She has only started doing this in the last 2 or so weeks. before that she was quite happy to get pats and attention from anyone.

She has been well socialised since she was a pup, meeting new people and new surroundings every day.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and how I can help her to overcome this, or if it just a phase?

    Thanks

  5. Hi SpottyPuppy,

Sorry I don't live in the Gold Coast so cannot suggest a puppy school - but I just had to comment to say how adorable little Bella is. She has the cutest face ever!! :)

Good luck in finding a puppy school for her.

  6. Training or perhaps trick training seems to help tire them out. Or giving her dinner in a Kong or treat ball so she has to work for it. Both mine were loonies when they were desexed, but I found those things helped.

Thanks Melinda, I have been training her as well as trick training. but I will definitely try feeding her using the Kong. :)

  7. Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before.

My 6 month old pup got desexed on Wednesday. It has not bothered her at all and she is recovering really well. :D

BUT i'm having a lot of difficulty keeping her "quiet". Especially around 5.30pm - her normal crazy run around time LOL.

Any ideas on something to tire her out that won't hurt her or the stitches?

    Any advice is appreciated :)

  8. Our local Electrical Discounters has the Green one for $649 and the red one for $849. As far as I can see the only difference between the two is the Red one has a remote control, the green one doesn't. The battery lasts for 12 hours (according to the little picture on the machine). Its bigger than I thought it was, but oh so cute. I am going to have to layby one I think....but I'll get one....my pledge to the RoboKing brigade to become a member soon

    Lynn

I have the Green one and it has a remote control :)

  9. Wow I got mine (the green one) from Harvey Norman for $350 a few months ago - must of been a great sale, or the sales person made a mistake? either way I love it..

My dog was a bit confused the first few times I ran it but now it doesn't bother her at all.

yeah i think you've been lucky because every other price I've seen has been around the $700/$800 mark :)

Is there any difference between the colours (other than the colour ofcourse!)?

I guess so.. :) I believe the only difference with the green and red is that the red has an extra sensor camera to map out the floor as well as the roof just to ensure it doesnt vacuum the same spot twice. and also once the red has ran out of battery and has recharged itself it will go back to the same spot it finished when it ran out of battery - whereas the green will just start again. Correct me if I am wrong though. :o

  11. Mine goes on wooden floorboards and then to carpet no problems. I empty it every morning when I wake up (or after a cycle) and it's so easy to empty. I just lift out the dust box, tip it into the bin and it slots straight back in the vacuum. And it's really quiet. Hardly notice it's on, I Don't hear it at night and it doesn't bother me if it's cleaning while I'm watching tv. I love it! You just have to make sure cords etc are out of the way as things like phone cords can get wrapped up. When it's finished or needs recharging it will just go back to the home station to recharge. :-)
