  1. I talk to my girl all the time.. when I get home from work, I greet her, "Hello darling, have you peed yet? What did you do today? Did you miss me?" etc etc. I have full-on conversations with her all the time, "Do you want to come cuddle with mummy?" "Watch out, you're gonna get in trouble!" "Aww baby, do you want some attention?" "No, it's not for you!! It's my dinner!!" "Would you like some sardines tonight?" "You smell, you need a bath!" etc etc and more, to which she responds by looking at me like I'm loony in varying degrees, or offering me her paw, which is her default response to EVERYTHING.

haha Mine gives that same "what the?!" look

  2. What i learnt from my staffies is that what works for one may not work for another.

BTW, the person asking about the barking doesn't actually have a Stafford. I think the pup is as much Labrador as anything else.

Thanks for pointing this out - as stated in other posts she is a staffy X - it was in your opinion to tell me she "could" have Labrodor in her.

    Have a nice day

  3. Good morning

Staffies tend to start noticing potential threats from outside your property around this time (in my experience anyway). To some degree she will settle down when she learns which ones are significant and which ones aren't. I can only speak from personal experience here so there may be a better way but what we did was get up and acknowledge the barking when it was something you would be concerned about (shouting in the street, loud odd noises, etc) check it out and then get her back on her bed/in her kennel. We ignored everything else and it took a bit of patience. I would also have a look at where she's laying. Moving her to the back of your property away from street noises, facing her kennel to a quiet area

I also use a DAP spray which is a pheramone that calms dogs down. Unfortunately the most effective method is via an airwick type preparation for inside but they have recently released a spray that can be sprayed on her kennel or bedding.

    hope this helps

Thanks for the help - I will try moving her around to the back as sleeping her inside is definitely not what I want.

    Thanks again

  4. Hi there,

It took 3 weeks for my pup to settle.. the first week was the worst!! I felt like the worst person in the world for letting her cry and not knowing when she was crying to be toileted or crying for attention. I must admit it definitely got much better as time goes on. I used to get frustrated when people said "just let he cry she will be right" but now I think of it as the best advice ever. She now sleeps outside without a care in the world.. So yes, it does get easier.

My pup slept in my ensuite for the first week, I used a radio, pigs ears, toys and a heat pack wrapped in my shirt.. After a few mins of crying I would say a stern "NO" and she would generally stop and go back to sleep.

Good luck - I definitely don't miss those - sleep deprived what the hell am I doing - nights.

  5. If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without alcohol,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

    ... Then You Are ...

  6. Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this apologise if not.

I have a staffy bitch and I live with my partner. My partners dog passed away last year :( and he misses her dearly. He is now interested in getting a Bull Terrier bitch.

Just wondering what bully's are like with other dogs especially a staffy. I am worried they won't get along and we will have to seperate them throughout the day.

I do not want to get a dog that will make my staffy stress.

Again I apologise if I have posted in the wrong place.

    Thanks

  7. Don't get a Rottweiler if you want to spend winter in doors, as they are an active breed especially during the colder months.

Don't get a Rottweiler unless you are prepared to be constantly challenged and one step ahead of them, as they are brilliant problem solvers with great determination.

  8. Don't get a stafford if you don't like farting....

I am sure it is an unwritten part of the breed standard, as has been mentioned on DOL many times over the years.

Most will insist on sharing everything with you... Your meals, bed, lounge, shoes and their slobbery toys..

They also consider themselves lap dogs... So if you don't like sharing everything Staffords are not for you.

Believe it or not they shed... Thousands of tiny little eyelash length hairs are everywhere and in everything.

I use a dyson and still manage to serve dinner with Staffy hair occasionally...

    Haha agreed

  9. Thanks, she is 4 months old and she is a Staffy.

I know it can be scary for her which is why I want her to learn that bath time is a good time.

I have tried doing it outside on a leash but she jumps and makes a huge fuss when I try to wet her with the smallest bit of water. She is great on a leash usually (walking and training etc) but just not when it's bath time.

Ive also tried in the laundry tub but again she howls and cries and tries to jump out. I try to reassure her that it is ok but she just cries and cries.

I don't usually wash her too often but she plays with my parents German Shepherd pup and they get into all kinds of mischief including jumping through mud LOL.

I guess what really makes me worry is that she doesnt hate water as she sits in her water bowl. It is just bath time she hates.

I guess I will try again with the leash and be super patient.

Thanks again for your help :-)

  10. Hi, just after some advice.

My puppy HATES having a bath. She cries and howls when I even try to put her near water.

She does however try to sit in her water bowl throughout the day but it seems to be on her terms only!!

Does anyone have any tips on trying to make her bath time a happy time?
