  1. Sailor, that rang little alarm bells in my head - have you had the place where she licks checked out? Dogs have been known to worry at a specific spot on their owner's body and when checked out by a doctor, it turns out to be a nasty. I hadn't even thought of it to be honest, I just assumed it was the only place she could reach! I have an appt this week with my GP so I'll put that on my list of things to get checked out. Thank you! :)
  2. Edna is a leg-licker! Always goes for the same spot on the back of my leg. Given the chance she'll follow you into the loo and sit on your feet. If you're in the shower/bath she'll sit right outside the splash-zone. Anytime you kneel down or squat she's there between your legs. In the kitchen she loves to stand in between your feet. Butt facing the cupboards and looking out. She's also a spooner, but she's always the little spoon. I usually sleep on my side with my knees bent and she crawls into the curve of my bent knees or stretches out along my back/stomach. She likes to play bitey facey but she has no idea what to do if she gets her toy or your fingers in her mouth. If she has a toy she holds it in her mouth and kneads it like a kitty.
  3. Our little lady got her wings this morning. Roxy came into our lives almost a year ago after we adopted her from a family member. I've known her since she was a kitten, but she came into our lives permanently at age 11. We had a fantastic year with her. Spoiling her, nights by the fire place, big belly rubs, her obsession with zippers, cuddles on the couch with us and Edna. She was a very talkative cat and I loved meowing back to her. She seemed to be in a lot of pain and we had to make the awful decision to put her to sleep today. As hard as it is, I know she's no longer in pain and she's with her brother Jeff at Rainbow Bridge. We'll miss you Roxy Cry not for me , For I am content At peace, at rest, Free. Miss me please, For I will miss you The ear rubs, cuddles, games and walks, All are with me for eternity. Speak of me often, Words help to heal, Memories stay with you forever And laughter will help you understand. Remember me well, For photographs fade with light Yet snapshots of your mind remain forever today. I was but a small part of your life But you were my life, All I did was for you and with you. Now I ask you remember me With a knowing smile And I will wait for you forever At the rainbow bridge.
  4. My OH and I decided we'd like a two dog/two cat household. He'd get to pick his dog, and I mine. German Shepherds have been his dream dog forever, but I wasn't fussy. My only two criteria were that it be small, and it had to be a rescue. I always keep an eye on the local dogs home website to see what they have, and one day I saw Edna on there and just had to go see her. We went and met her the next day, took her for a walk and sat with her and I fell in love. It was a long, agonising week of waiting to see if we'd been approved for our house and organising moving before I could go and pick her up. I was so sure someone would have adopted her in that week, but she was still there! Chihuahua's weren't high on my list of dog breeds I wanted, but Edna is the perfect little dog. Heaps of energy for walks but is content to sleep all day if she was allowed to. She's my heart dog, and I can't imagine life without her anymore.
  5. Heidi has definitely become my dad's dog since I moved out of the parental home. They absolutely adore each other. We often joke she's become his favourite child of the family, and replaced me as daddy's little girl. Edna is mine for sure, and has been since the first day we met her at the pound. She had a real aversion to males when we first got her, but now she loves my OH. Just not as much as me!
  6. Edna is the biggest lazy bones. She sleeps with me all night, so usually around 11 until 7-9 and go out to the loo. If I'm off to uni for the day she'll sleep with my partner all day (he works night shift). If I'm at home she'll come sit on the couch and sleep there. If the weather is nice the back sliding door is left open, so she comes and goes and she pleases. Sometimes she'll move from the couch to go sleep outside in the sun. Usually around dusk she'll have a big burst of energy and do zoomies and we play a game with her fave toy. She get's amped up for walkies, when she hears my car come home, going in the car, but the rest of the time she's a total lazy bones. Heidi sleeps a lot now. When she was younger she was full of beans but now she's sowed down a bit. She sleeps on the outside couch if no one is home during the day. If someone is home she'll either follow my dad around or sleep inside. Of a night she has a routine she loves. Couple of walks in the paddock, lay by the heater, dinner, lay by the heater, bickie ball when everyone's finished eating and watching tv, roll about the lounge do zoomies, lay by the heater, loo, and then bed.

  8. Almost everything! Edna is fine with thunder. Not sure about fireworks yet. The biggest ones I've noticed is shaking out clothes/plastic bags, squeaky toys, balls, clapping, slamming doors, when it's super windy, hairdryer. She's a rescue and I'm pretty certain she was abused at one of her last two homes. She used to be terrified of the kitchen. Wouldn't go past a certain point, but now she comes in and sits on my feet while I'm cookingmormdoing the dishes. Great little foot warmer in winter! Heidi is scared of champagne bottles, particularly the cork being popped. After that she's fine.
  9. My brother accidentally left the back door open for a few minutes and then panicked because he couldn't find their Pom pup. Had the whole neighbourhood searching for him, went out in his car for an hour searching. Eventually he admitted defeat and went home trying to figure out how he was going to tell his fiancé he'd lost the puppy he'd proposed to her with a week earlier. Came home to the puppy sleeping soundly in a basket of laundry.
  10. Faves: chis, dally, GSD, aussie shepherd, french bulldog, pug, doberman, great dane, scnauzer, staffy. Basically a list of breeds I'd love to own. Least: I really can't think of a breed I don't like, more breeds I probably wouldn't own. E.g a larger/high energy breed right now wouldn't be suitable as our backyard is small and the fencing isn't secure for a bigger dog. Breeds that require a lot of grooming or shed constantly are probably out too as we're renting. Funny though, I never thought I'd get a chihuahua/be a chihuahua person until we adopted Edna. When we first saw her at the dog's home I just fell in love with her and I bonded with her instantly, and that was that. I can't imagine life without her now.
  11. Is that a purebred dally? the marking on her face is cool She is! :) I love her big eye patch. wow she has dew claws! hahah i havent seen a dal with dew claws before To be honest, we bought her from a BYB ten years ago (before we knew better!) and the breeder hadn't had them removed, and we didn't know about it at the time. Fortunately she's never had an issue with them causing injury to herself or others. :)

  13. We visit my parents' often enough for me to consider this a pack as well. Edna and my other love, Heidi, with my Dad. Edna and Heidi love hanging out together.
  14. Edna and Roxy, our mini pack. We'll be adding a GSD in the next year or two. I can't wait!
  15. We went to the Ulverstone (tas) walk and had a great time. All the dogs I saw were really well behaved. We saw some gorgeous Danes, german shepherds, a beautiful pack of dalmatians and lots of adorable pugs. They had some great little stalls offering dental checks and grooming. Quite a few dogs had little bows in their hair from that stall, including a beautiful Irish wolfhound. We took our rescue girl Edna, a chihuahua cross. She got a little bit overwhelmed in the crowd waiting for the walk to start. Too many bigger dogs I think, so she wanted to get picked up. She was right with the smaller dogs. Once we were off walking and had a bit of room around us she was happy as Larry and pranced along. She even did the 5.2km walk! Gave her a bath when we got home and she then she went straight to sleep. It was great to see the shelter we adopted Edna from out with their current dogs up for adoption, all wearing "adopt me!" jackets.
