  1. She has been spayed at 5 months on vet recommendation so that can't be the problem. Nothing really led me to think she was being protective, just the only thing that made sense at the times. But now after reading about the fear thing, it's probably more likely to be that. She has been well socialized with people and dogs so hopefully we won't have too many other issues, and shell grow out of it. Thanx everyone!
  2. No she has had no bad experiences that I'm aware of. I'm hoping it's just a stage that she will grow out of.
  3. I have a 7 month old female Labrador puppy who has always been overly loving and friendly to her family and strangers alike. She's never shown fear or any form of aggression towards people until a few times recently. She has always been very submissive and cautious of other dogs, but not scared. On 3 separate occasions while I have been walking her, we have been approached by people who want to play or say hello, usually she let's them, but on these occasions she was very stand offish, barking at them, and would not let them any where near me or her. The people look at me like my lovely puppy is a terrible violent monster!! On one of the occasions we were just walking past a man who didn't even try to approach, and still she behaved like this. I don't understand though, cos sometimes she let's strangers near without this problem, and always children and other dogs. I'm worried because I didn't think that this was a typical Labrador trait?? Should I be worried?? I would hate for her to get too protective or scared one day and have her snap at someone, whose intentions were good. The other thing is, when these people first start to approach her, she becomes very excited, wagging her whole body and seems happy for them to approach, and then she just suddenly changes her mind once they get too close. Strange.
  4. just leeting u all know my puppy is a lot better this morning. we called the vet and they said if she isnt better by morning to take her in. she is still a little tired but no vomit or diarrhoea since 930 last night. her stoolss are starting to go back to normal and she has had a small amount of food. i will continue to keep a clos eeye on her but i think she is going to b just fine. thanks for all advice :)
  5. Has she had anything to drink since then? she has been drinking water a lot today and since she has been sick. if she goes off her water ill b taking her straight to the vet
  6. hi thank you for ur advice. my partner gets home at 10- 1030. if she vomits agaain between now and then we will definitely b taking her to the vet. i think i will let her sleep for now and see if she feels better after that.
  7. no she hasnt been fed since running around. she had her meal in the morning as usual but lots of treats throughout the day, with the other dogs, more then usual. she ate at about 830 this morning and just snacks after that. i wont b feeding her tonight. pretty sure its not bloat, her stomach isnt hard or distended and doesnt seem to hurt to touch. she isnt showing signs of pain. just sick.
  8. my 5.5 month old lab puppy had an extra busy day today, playing with 2 other dogs and as a result is exhausted, she also ate a bit more then usual also today. throughout the day she was fine, showed no signs of sickness. but now has vomited twice and had diarrhoea twice in 30 mins. the diarrhoea was literally like brown water, whereas the first vomit was thick with a bit of undigested food, the second runny (sorry for the graphic description), her stomach is also making all sorts of funny noises. My question is, can exhaustion make a dog physically ill like this? or should I be more concerned? she is still drinking small ammounts of water, and is now sleeping. if she keeps vomiting i think i will have to take her to the emergency vet. i am really really worried for my puppy, this is the first time this has ever happened.
  9. Have you rung the vet yet? Hope she's ok. yeah the vet said not to worry unless she goes off food and especially water, or if she has a temp. she seems to be in a lot better spirits today too. maybe she is just getting over that cone being on her head. I know I sure would hate it! thanx for ur well wishes :)
  10. She ia eating fine and drinking fine, still going to the toilet fine. But she is a lab. I don't think they ever go off their food. I don't think it's painful to touch. The main thing that concerns me is the lethargy.
  11. I might call the vet and see what they recommend. Ur right I would hate to lose my baby just from a simple spay.
  12. I tried to post pics but for whatever reason it won't work. It's not oozing. Just a lump around her incision sight about the size of a ping pong ball. The actual incision looks clean and normal.
  13. hi everyone, im posting for the first time, and because I have a couple of concerns im hoping someone might be able to help me out with. I have a 5 month old gorgeous dark chocolate female Labrador. Chikko is her name :) she went and got spayed on Monday 2nd April, 6 days ago and seemed to be going really well, with only a slight seroma, examined by the vet on the Wednesday, in great spirits and lots and lots of energy. only in the last 2 days I have started to become more concerned. her seroma seems to have gotten quite a bit bigger, and has turned quite hard, whereas before it was quite soft and squishy. her actual incision sight seems quite normal to me, I think, no problems there. but she has also got a lot less energy, sleeping a lot more and snoring horrendously, which she never did. she just seems a little out of character and lethargic. also she has a crusty scabby sore on one side of her abdomen in the section where they shaved her fur, I think maybe a reaction to the scrub they cleaned her with before surgery, not sure.its about the size of a 20c piece. the scab is starting to fall off and it looks a bit sore and infected. is there anything anyone knows of that I can use to clean it for her or should I just leave it? the problem is its a public holiday, my regular vet is shut. I could take her to the emergency vet in woolloongabba, but don't know if I should just wait for my regular vet to reopen on Tuesday. should I be concerned or is this normal? this is the first time I have had a dog spayed so don't really know what is normal. thanks and sorry for the long post.
