  1. Tacrolimus is an expensive but amazing drug. It is very expensive to buy (a box of the capsules used to make the drops is over $1000). There are certainly other compounding chemists that can make the drug but I actually think the price you have been given is extremely reasonable! I work at an animal eye specialist and we have heard of clients paying over $200 per bottle... How often are you using the drops? A 15ml bottle should last you a few months at least. The compounding pharmacy will tell you to throw it out after 4 weeks but that is not necessary with animals. They tell people to dispose of drops after 4 weeks because humans are extremely susceptible to bacterial infections in the eyes. Dogs don't tend to et bacterial eye infections so you can keep using them until they run out.

  2. DogsVic are their own organisation and can make their own rules. I don't understand when people say they have no power. They should say 'we are here to inspect your property - if you refuse, you will be banned/suspended from the group'. Simple! They make the rules and they need to bloody well enforce them. I know of a few puppy farmers that are also DogsVic members - why are they still members?? They might noy have police powers but they can ban people if the want to.

  3. We are! Gus is looking fab, Rosie needs more so will have to top her up as now it's warmer and they are doing more she is looking a little too slim for my liking.

If you don't have a membership I'd be glad to take you in one day! I love the place, it is ridiculous! Haha.

Thanks Steph! :) I called my local store and I can go in and have a look around and can then sign up if I want to. If the cat food is good the membership will pay for itself in two bags of food!

  4. I just want more and more sighthounds. :) I have the IGs and the Greyhound and now the Borzoi. Next on my wishlist is an Afghan.

what your want/wish list should be is more time, to enjoy them fully. Then you could take your sighthound team coursing. At this stage it would have to be to NSW or SA but how much fun would that be! I'd love to see you walking the whole team.

I often take all the hounds out walking. :) Not hugely interested in lure coursing at this stage, maybe one day.

  5. I found an old thread where a few people said they were using the Kirkland kibble. Are people still using it? Thoughts? It is made by the same company that makes Taste of The Wild but is about $60 for 18kg apparently. It is grain free and they also do a cat food. Would like to try it but wondering if any others have tried it.

  6. I've loved Ibizan Hounds, ever since I saw one, 30 or more years ago, in perfect Sphinx posture during the Down Stay in obedience competition. Unfortunately, commonsense says "No" -- I don't have time or resources to cope with a sight-hound (plus) that can soar over 5 foot fences. Speaking of soaring over fences, google "Ibizan Hound jumping" for some pictures of sheer beauty.

My boss has two and while they are stunning to look at, they are the most skittish dogs I've ever met. They were socialised and treated like normal dogs, but nobody except my boss can get near them. And if they are at the park and get a fright, they just take off. One sighthound breed that I have definitely crossed off my list!

Here is my Borzoi with one of my boss' s Ibizans:

  7. I have a 15yo entire male toy poodle that I took on earlier this year. Have just had to deal with two bitches in season and Preston trying his hardest to get to them. He was a stud dog in a former life so he knows all about girls in season... I don't want to risk any unwanted pregnancies so am looking for thoughts about desexing vs suprelorin or anything else. He is healthy so a quick anaesthetic to castrate him. But if suprelorin is just as good, I am happy to do that. Then there is the risk of prostate or testicular cancer etc. Thoughts?

  8. Also, all puppies have loose hips. The hip socket is formed by pressure from the hip ball. All puppies are born with hips nowhere near the hip socket. Will dig up an xray for you. Keep him lean, don't over exercise him, and definitely don't desex him until he is 2-3 years old. Then wait and see what happens.
