  1. I found the stuff used for weed matting better because the dogs can't see shapes thro' it, as they can for shade cloth. Weed matting is thick, black plastic which comes in rolls. Shadecloth is see through, save your money - I used weed mat but it does not last forever. Another idea is corflute $11 for 2/2 metres (Bunnings). The Bull Terrier next door wants to eyeball my 2 to initiate fence running. She is home alone bored and feels she has to patrol and defend 10 acres. Young female entire. I am going to buy corflute tomorrow. Will also post some pics of all my other barriers. Ongoing battle over here as well.

  3. Hey BrunoBella, I live about 15 mins from you and would be glad to show you how to check your dog. Do you want to meet at a dog park or something? Please read up on the life cycle and habitat of ticks, really need to "know your enemy". Thank you... Do you live in the gold coast? I had forgotten about videos, so today watched about 20 videos for how to find ticks.. I feel a lot more confident already... Diagnosing tick paralysis Edited for forgetfullness..Thank you everyone for the fantastic info... We have been to Burleigh beach every day for the last two days..... Twas bruno and bellas favourite place in the world  We are near Nerang. We have a GSP cross something something, however he is a total goofball and typical of the breed. There are 8 acres here and we now have it all mowed and cleared. No ticks on the dog yet.. touching wood. We have had a couple of sessions in the dam paddock chasing swamp hens and no snakes or other nasties have been spotted. This is due to the fact that the snakes were all around the house (sorted now) so I figure the paddock can't be any worse. It is shady around the dam (treed) so that is not the snakey area, keep him focused on the water birds and me. When I see him start to quarter the open grassed area I worry then, he is looking for water dragons or any other reptiles. Very dry early summer was good, now the rain, storms have created humidity I would expect to find ticks. Have read they breed in mulch so must keep up the regular mowing so no thick mulch accumulates. Cane toads under control finally, I have been collecting them every night for over 2 years now only the odd one. Qld is a bad place for breeds with high prey drive!
  4. You could apply to join GSP Lovers Australia on FB. Yes I know, not EPs but people who understand Pointers in general. It is a closed group but I can put your name forward to the Admins if you want to message me.Many of the members there live Bayside. (a very supportive dog community)

  6. I agree completely here. There is no point taking the risk of poisons on your dog when checking physically is necessary anyway. We lost our dear boy to cancer at 9.5yrs which is too young for an ACD. He is/was our first and last dog ever to wear tick collars. Maybe nothing to do with the collars but not taking the chance ever again. The really important thing is to know your dog and be watchful for any sign of symptoms or changes in behaviour. This is also the case if you live in snakey country, as we do. You can turn the nightly tick inspection into a massage session that the dog enjoys. As someone above said - close your eyes and just rely on your sense of touch.
  7. Omg, that is the most divine Dally I have ever seen! Love,Love!!!
  8. This is atrocious. I am not sure that they have any legal right to just enter her property like that. We will have no freedom or rights of any kind soon. A relative who lived in the USA for many years said that the "right to bear arms" was born from the perceived need to keep government agents off their (private) property. Do you have any email addresses I can write to? If these "laws" are adopted nationwide, then God help us. I am honestly starting to think about leaving Australia.
  9. Ellis, you have done something towards helping the pup. Possibly try _ Big Dog Rescue | Facebook Sandra, there are many who care, but you can't take in every dog in need that you see. There are just too many (thousands) of them. Be realistic.
  10. There is interest already from the FB group and SMS sent. Sorry,I did not think to go to the GSP sub-forum, still a newbie here.
  11. https://www.facebook.com/groups/140225065999910/ I am a member of this FB group. There are now 330 members and many dogs have been successfully rehomed within the group. These are wonderful people who are just dotty about their GSPs and many can find a spot on the bed for just "one more".
  12. Is he listed on petrescue? Has anyone considered AWDRI for this boy? I am in Queensland with a GSPx an ACD bitsa and a grumpy cat. If he could get along with the cat, then I would sort out the other two nutters. Sorry I cannot read without specs. Honestly, the RSPCA should hand him over to AWDRI. He would be in foster care within days and they could promote him properly.
  13. The fleck pattern is all GSP. Personally, I would call him a "Bull Arab" which are generally Bull terrier, GSP and some other Hound type. He looks like a lovely boy and you are a good person to help him out.
  14. Hi, I lost my boy last year to osteosarcoma. I was told that chemo would not help him and radiation is not useful on bone cancers. Maybe the advice was wrong but I had 3 opinions as you have. We went the holistic way, and although it did not save him, he did have excellent quality of life (for 95 days) except for the last day1/2. We went to the beach on his last morning - that was always the test. (Did he want to go on ? - or had he had enough ?) If he came out and danced around when I went to get the car ready then I knew we had more time. On that last day, we arrived home and he just sat in the car, did not want to come in and soon after fell into a deep sleep. It was a cool day so I let him rest and went to check on him every 10 min or so. He woke up later and ate some chicken and had a drink. Back to sleep. The Vet came at lunch time and he passed soon after. Make every day a special one. I am so sorry you are facing this. Sending love and Hugs xx
