  1. Ooh, I like that idea kelpiecuddles . Thanks!
  2. Thanks! I knew I should've asked here earlier :) I just bought one from Happy hounds.
  3. Not sure this is in the right section... I'm wondering if you can buy the Chilly Dog Sweaters from a distributor within Australia without the $50 shipping fee's. Thanks :)
  4. It has been soooo... Long since I've been able to read, let alone post anything. Busy busy! Hannah878, frank is gorgeous - love his name too. I have just read the last 8 pages or so and now I can't remember which pics I've seen and who I've read all about. All the pups are growing into gorgeous bigger pups! Lhok, have you tried cottage cheese mixed with dry food? That's what Griffin has for breakfast mixed with his dry food. I've found it interesting reading the various weights of the puppies. I tried weighing Griffin on our scales with me last week and he was around 19.4kg at 5mths. He's been teething and his favourite chew toy in that time has been sticks from the garden... Some big branches had fallen down in the winds and he likes to chew on them. We started obedience classes with him last week and he seemed to go well. He is also walking on the lead really well after I put some hard work into it with him not being allowed to pull. The only times he pulls now is if the kids are walking ahead and get out of sight. He doesn't like them being out of his sight if they're in front. If they're behind us it doesn't bother him. Here are some recent pics of him :) Chilling on the couch... Getting stuck on the hammock... Having a run in the water at Bayview
  5. I too was going to suggest getting her to contact the state Vizsla club. That's what I did when we first started looking into the breed - the pack they sent out was a good read and a great starting point. We spent time researching, then time with and talking to a breeder and spending time with the breed and exercising them. We wanted to make sure it was the breed for us. A lot of good breeders will be very choosy with whom they allow to buy their pups - if it gets to it, maybe you just have to hope that they turn her away? From someone who currently has a 4mo Vizsla, they certainly demand a lot of attention! It's just like having another baby/child in the family. He just wouldn't cope without all the cuddles he demands from us (we love it!). He wouldn't cope with being left all day and evening too. Yes they're gorgeous but they are a lot of work when you need to take their physical exercise and their need for intellectual stimulation into account. I'm not sure how you can say it's a bad idea politely. Do you think she'd get offended if you tried? ETA: that rainy day V YouTube cracks me up. Our V does those zoomies in the evenings sometimes - his favourite thing is to go pinch the magnets (we're very quick to retrieve these) or the papers off the fridge or our kids artworks that they like to display off the wall! We had to baby proof our house again for him and move everything out of his reach lol
  6. Espinay2, that was very very helpful. Thank you! I will aim to take him out every day without the kids and really work on it with the stopping etc. I will teach my husband how to do it too and make sure he continues it when he walks him.
  7. Thanks for the heads up, Lisa. I'll check out Kmart tomorrow for a chain lead. We took Griffin to the water today. He had a great time. I so wasn't sure about the whole off lead thing though. I bought a Kmart cheapie extending lead thing for working on his recall at the local park last week so I took that down today. It worked well but I felt like a doofus because none of the other dogs were leashed. With all the excitement of the other dogs around etc, I was afraid he wouldn't come if i called him back. Mr distracted at the moment (squirrel!)! That and I just wasn't sure about some of the big dogs that were off the lead.
  8. I never considered the chain lead to stop that. I'm buying one tomorrow. He loves playing with his lead (BlackJaq, he's a V puppy :) )
  9. He doesn't choke himself so much, he just pulls. Constantly. He doesn't care for treats when we're walking. I've tried offering him treats when he's walking in the correct spot but he sniffs them and then goes back to whatever he was looking at / sniffing.
  10. I didn't see that thread. I just went and had a look - thanks for pointing me in the right direction. We did puppy classes and I'm looking at going to our local dog training too. They only take newbies every fortnight and due to work I won't be able to start him till mid October so I'd like to get going with it ourselves. He's currently 16wks. The hard part is I can't always walk with my attention fully on him. I'll often have btwn 1 and 3 kids with me. When he's good on the lead and not distracted by stuff, I'd like them to be able to hold his lead too (they continually pester us about it and he's only going to get stronger...).
  11. Now that our pup, Griffin is fully immunised and can go out for proper walks, I'm after a suitable restraint to help with teaching him not to pull. Last time I had a pup, choke chains were the norm but it seems that's not so these days... Would a harness, halti/gentle leader, martingale style collar or a regular old check chain be best? He has his moments when he's great walking beside me but most of the time he's an eager beaver and wants to check out all the new smells. Ta :)
  12. That's great Lhok! So much more promising than the last trainer!
  13. Gosh he's gorgeous Lhok. Such a big boofa!
  14. Beckybecbec, that was one of the kennels I was looking at. I just wasn't sure how long it would last. This is another that I really liked but couldn't justify the price when I could make one similar for half the amount http://www.cozypetsdogkennels.com.au/ Griffin is a Hungarian Vizsla :)
  15. I've just had to read 10 pages to catch up! Now to think of what I read... Steph, even with the swelling, that's a gorgeous photo of Gus. He's very handsome :) That must have been a scary experience YvonneM. Aliwake, I hope Nixon gets better soon. It must suck to see him unwell We give Griffin chicken necks for lunch every day. He's never had an issue with them. We buy the occasional carcass too but the last lot had heaps of skin on them and guts still inside so I ditched them. Wasn't very happy. We have 5 chooks. Thankfully Griffin only pays them any attention if we're in their run. They've only been out in the backyard once since we got Geriffin and I put him on the lead for it. We have a pain in the butt bush turkey hanging around the chooks and Master G is oblivious to it lol Master G has had his final jab so we're just waiting out the 10days. At least it will coincide nicely with the school holidays and we can take him to more places. I can't wait! He was 13.6kg at 14.5wks for his jab. He is growing so quickly. I made him a kennel last weekend - thankfully he likes it and uses it lol. I've put a few pics in :)
  16. I can't help but laugh at the dog farts! Oh man, Griffin does some stinky room-clearing farts! They're horrid!
  17. Lollipup, Envy has the funniest face in that pic - cheeky girl. Griffin tries to climb not the bath when my kids are in it. He's not quite big enough to Get over the edge easily yet so its easy to stop him halfway in at the moment lol. I've had to resort to closing him out of the bathroom when anyone is in the bath or shower. He will push the shower door open and go in anytime anyone's in there too. How rude of her Lisa. I'm glad you were alert enough to notice her dog was unhappy and put a stop to its approach. Well done :)
  18. I love the bubble photos! What a great idea for a laugh at a puppy's expense. I think I'll get ours out tomorrow. Like Lhok, with kids in the house there are lots of bubbles around here. I took Griffin to my daughter's preschool for show and tell this morning. He was brilliant! Was very pleased with him and all the children. My daughter thought it was the best ever!!
  19. Lovely photo lollipup :) Hope the trip home went well Lisa.
  20. Here's some recent pics of Griffin. We gave him his first bone last week - he wasn't sure what to do with it at first but he soon figured it out :)
  21. Aliwake, 0615 seems to be the time to wake in our house now. We finally got the kids trained to sleep till about 0700 and now no one gets to sleep in thanks to master Griffin. I'd love just one sleep in.... I'm not game enough to leave him alone inside - he'd get up to mischief somewhere! I hope your glasses are too costly to repair. Cheeky Nixon :/
  22. Lollipup, Hunter is incredible gentle. I was impressed that Envy was quite subdued too. I love Envy's colouring - will she stay with the dark face and tail and the lighter body? Hankodie, it's funny how poo suddenly becomes such an interesting topic with a puppy. I'm glad Hank gave you a firm one to calm your nerves. I get worried when Griffin has had a slightly soft stool occasionally. Lhok, well done to Treble! I bet that shook you up a bit! Little buggers! I hope you find a suitable harness for him. I've got no useful information for you a I'm just reading and looking at the links everyone else puts up for my own research lol Beckybecbec, those two look like they will have loads of fun together. The photo of them in the car is very cute. Griffin has grown so much in the month we've had him. He is spending most of his days outside now. We are home for most of the time and he lounges out in the beautiful weather between play sessions. We are happy to leave him outside for small amounts of time when we go out and he seems to cope ok which is good. The cat does tease him a bit though...
  23. We have had 4 ticks on our puppy since the beginning of August. We're in Sydney's northern suburbs. He's now on fortnightly frontline plus.
  24. It's may be a naive questions... But why is tug so important?
