  1. Hey Leena, I think it may be the harness. My samoyed scratches his collar a lot when we go an walks. It's the only time he does it. when I tell him to stop he does and continues his walk. And there is no more scratching. Samoyed's can be sensitive to restraints I think XXToughgirlXX
  2. Hi All, One of my mates has started working at Woofpurrnay as a groomer. She is pretty choosy as she loves animals so I think they would be a good place. Diamond Boarding Kennels are pretty rough from what I've heard and I've been in the animal industry for over 10 years. You get to know the good and bad places. I'd like to take my boy to dogs in motion. I'm sure he would love the water. He likes the beach. XXToughgirlXX
  3. Hi saintly susan, I made the decision to desex my samoyed because I didn't want trying to escape out of the backyard to chase females. lol. I was worried that if he did get out he may get hit by a car. He still does try and hump male dogs occasionally, though trainers say it is because he is trying to dominate the other dog. XXToughgirlXX It's good that you are considering all the options.
  4. I agree with saintly susan. Take them to the vet asap. It looks nasty. Could it be from rubbing their nose against a wire fence? I've seen dogs get some nasty sores on their noses from doing that. XXToughgirlXX
  5. Glad I could help I really believe eagle pack is a great dry food. I've heard lot's of good reports from people switching their dogs onto it. XXToughgirlXX
  6. Thanks, Erny Simba definately appreciates compliments hehehehe
  7. My friend has a 2yo English staffy. He is also a very fussy eater. He tried him on supercoat and he ate that for around a year and then went off it. My friend also cooks up mince & rice, Chicken and he will eat all that but it has made him more fussy. Eagle Pack is a great dry food and I am trying to get him to eat that. My boy also eats Eagle Pack dry food and he loves it. When you are trying your dog on another type of food, it is best to feed half of the old food and the new food together and then gradually decrease them amount of the old food until he is eating just the new food. This is said to avoid tummy upsets and get then used to the new food. Also staffies love marrowbones and as they get older, and their jaws develop, you can give them the huge ones whole. It's great for keeping their teeth clean. By all means give your dog a bit of variety now and then, when they are good eaters, chicken mince, beef etc. Just try not to make a habit of it or they could become fussy. Hope this helps. 8. Simba had a hernia also. He had his fixed when he was desexed. One vet told me to keep pushing it back in but another said if he teared it on something it could do a lot of damage. I went with the safer option and got it fixed. Try not to worry it's not a major issue. But get it fixed asap. XXtoughgirlXX
  9. Hi, I own a samoyed and I use a rake on him to get the undercoat out. I also have a metal comb with a wooden handle that works well for general brushing. I also have a slicker brush they are good for getting hair out and making the coat look smooth. and I use a pin brush for his tail. Hope this helps, XXToughgirlXX
  10. When my boy had kennel cough I found that "Strepsils - Dry cough Extra Strength" cough syrup seemed to work well at easing his cough. In regards to dosage you would give the same as you would a child. Working at a boarding kennel I have had lots of information on this as you would imagine. And it's true that antibiotics are like a "placebo" that vet's usually give the dogs so that the owners feel better. When, in reality, it is a viral infection, which providing there are no other complications, usually clears up in about a week. That said, I have found the cough syrup to be effective in treating the cough. Hope this info helps. XXToughgirlXX

  13. Hi Samoyedman, My sammy pup is 13 weeks old, too. He also runs around me in circles, nipping my legs, trying to get me to play with him. He has lots of toys - rope balls, kong, little toy tyre etc. I say ahh in a loud firm voice when he does this and it does stop him but if i do something else like pick up his food bowl and walk towards the house he will try it again. He has learned 'sit' and I am now trying to teach him to 'stay' and 'lie down'. Has anyone got any tips for me? Also I can't resist playing with my boy either. Sometimes I lie next to him and let him sniff me and lick my face! Not for too long though! I probably shouldn't be doing this either? Please someone give me some tips on playing and training a 13 week old puppy. I have gotten him used to his outside 'cubby' (it's a small room in the backyard which the door can be pushed shut at night - when he sleeps) and he also has his meals and water bowl in there. I've made it really comfortable for him, he has a hot water bottle under his blanket which he hasn't wrecked- yet! And now he has a touch lamp in there, out of his reach of course. He is slowly settling in there though when i call him for bedtime he doesn't seem to want to come in there. But once he's in there he doesn't make much of a fuss a few barks and that's about it. This morning he got out before I could let him out which he has never been able to do before. I like him to be confined in the cubby overnight because if he is outside all night he will lie on the grass in the rain and that is not good for him. XXToughgirlXXX
