  1. Hi L&L My first thought was also a shoe or wrapping the foot to protect it and encourage usage - however IMO this will only work BEFORE he is fully into the habit of lifting his foot/leg. Otherwise it will take longer for him to realise its not as painful to walk on his leg. Other than that - if you know how much the amputation will be, could you compare it to re constructive surgery? My sister's dog got out of her yard and hit by a car. Everyone thought she'd have to have her back leg removed - however I ended up asking if it was possible to try reconstructing her hip and leg first. The dog ended up coming from Bundaberg down here to Brisbane and she had her surgery here with my vet. It was a success (lots of glue/staples/pins and permanent metal brackets drilled into her bones) as well as 6 months with a metal brace and pins on the outside of her leg... The hard part was keeping her activity down while she was in her pins & bracket... whenever she would run she'd kick the back leg out to the side and hobble along on 3 legs. She has fully recovered, outside uglies were removed and to look at her now you wouldn't know she has pins/braces on the inside. It was a success and only and extra $150 more than the amputation. Its a thought you could consider and discuss with your vet. Good luck with whatever you end up deciding
  2. That's an awesome job Freckles.... Well done
  3. ;) Cavanova - OMG Mia is BEAUTIFUL! So... where do you guys live again??
  4. Thanks Jag & Harminee! I didn't get a chance to play on PS last night
  5. Check out the website. They have an evening primrose shampoo and a couple of other shampoos and dietary supplements for dogs with skin conditions. Check out the testimonials too - there is a great shot of a dog that was suffering from a skin irritation - he looks so much better now ETA: Link
  6. No chance They had previously shaved the pants off ALL my dogs (as groomers do to pet dogs to prevent dags, etc) and after this time I had explained to them they are show dogs and to PLEASE never clip them ANYWHERE without my permission. When they shaved the pants, they had also done the underside of my CKCS ears I only ever took them to the groomers if they needed a bath, I didn't have time, etc... I always groom my dogs myself for the Show Ring. For whatever reason, they thought they were doing me a favour. He always had light knotting in his tail, however I always brush him every second day at worst (he likes to roll around on grass, bed, gardens, driveway, anywhere! and this causes knots) I comb the knots out quite easily (though it can be time consuming) there would have been no way it was matted. Oh well - too late now... I just have to try and focus on fixing the problem (I ordered my Royal Jelly Shampoo yesterday )
  7. Thanks Will have another play tonight.. I couldn't find a better body/head but will try and make the one there an outline so it puts more attention on the hat Thanks for all the tips/advice!
  8. Thanks guys - will try tonite... I'm a bit of a n00b for PS
  9. What ??? Why on earth would they need to use clippers on a BC at all ? I KNOW :p Needless to say I was very vocal when I saw it (they know I'm a Breeder/Showie). And we've never been back despite their offer of free grooming for 3 months, etc. He had such a nice tail :'( now it looks really short and makes his body look box-y.
  10. Is LSA the linseed mix? From memory is it Linseed, Sunflower & Almond? If so what ratio/where to buy, etc?? Last year the "groomers" (I use the term loosely) used the clippers on my BC boy's tail... it still hasn't grown back to its original state... will try the shampoo though (Thanks )
  11. HELP PLEASE :p I'm making a pic to put on some stubby coolers for my Dad (uber Army guy) and this is what I have so far... but my problem is that the Hat doesn't line up with the Face (nose in particular) Does anybody know how I can rotate it or "tweak" it to make it look more natural?? Thanks to anyone who can help! ETA: That is the best "Body" I could find - if anyone has something else I could use I'd be forever grateful
  12. Naughty Risyntira You've been playing with PS instead of being at Show Training!
  13. Great work Harminee - Thanks! Love the Eclipse pics too
  14. We took a couple of photos the other day if anyone is interested in playing around with them...
  15. We start training our puppies before they leave for their new homes... and any other pups that come to live with us - training starts from day one. Especially if you have a very confident, outgoing pup like our new BC who is trying to pull the ropes! They're like little sponges - the more you can get in the better you will be in the long run (as long as you aren't expecting too much or flooding the poor little baby!) We start out simple and once they start to get the hang of what is expected (the point when we begin to introduce a verbal command) we can start the learning phase of a new command. Then we can mix the commands up and really test the pup. The key is to be patient and give plenty of praise - always end on a good note and reward every attempt that is closer to the final goal.
  16. My OH is 1/2 French so every 3 months we get a new shipment of cheeses. The dogs love cheese week... one of my girls has definitely developed a taste for blue over a traditional brie. The others will take it as it comes... except my youngest cav girl... she'll eat anything but the blue. But for the remainder of the year they "tolerate" home brand blocks (or if I can't be bothered) the packets that are already cut up into cubes. They are a good size for the show ring - you only need to take in one cube and they will nibble off it the whole time :D
  17. Hi Guys, Due to lack of interest we are unable to come up with the required quantity to import Flint River to Aust. Sorry to all those who PM'd etc. wanting to go ahead. :D
  18. THANKS HARMINEE They are sooooo cute - I really love the Pup in a Cup
  19. All our dogs chase ice cubes around the house on the tiles ;) Clam Shells are great (it cools them down, but also stops them from digging in their water bowl and then not having anything to drink!) You can buy the shells from Toy World and the likes - but have a look on eBay because often people will buy them (They come in a set of two) but only want one for their dog, so sell the other. Good luck with your new puppy
  20. Here's a couple of old photos I have on my work computer... If anyone is interested in having a play around with them.
  21. I'm not a member of any cat forums - but you are welcome to post a link to this thread (if its ok with Troy?)
  22. Ok - I think there is a little confusion. My thoughts so far are - if there are enough people interested I will place a BULK order (at wholesale prices) have it all shipped to us, then send on to whoever. For people outside Brisbane I can arrange postage or courier. Perhaps people in other states can accept a large order and then arrange for other DOLers to meet up and pick up their goodies. IF there is enough interest generated for regular orders then I will definately look into becoming a distributor (perhaps of other brands too). However, my personal feelings are that no one will want to committ to regular orders until they have at least tried the product and possibly found out what a regular price would be.
  23. I don't really do too much with PS (I just sweet talk OH) But here's my Newbie Attempts: ETA: PLEASE don't pay any attention to the dirty puppy... I should have PS'd her tears stains
  24. I have spent many hours on Google over the past month or so looking for a new food. Flint River is the one I have decided on that would both suit the needs of my dogs and my budget (even taking into consideration currency exchange and shipping.) The reason I have chosen Flint River is most likely the same reason other DOLers feed Royal Canin over Supercoat or Optimum over Eukanuba. I'm not saying this is the best food in the world for your dog and started this topic at the request of a few others from another thread and some PMs. If others want a different brand I'm sure it would not be hard to contact a few other companies in the US to get prices and deals. At least 2 of the distributors of Flint River also have other premium brands, I'm sure there would be more. If others post their preference I don't mind making the enquiries on costs & quantities as well.
  25. I have already contacted customs and checked up on the rules of imported pet foods and the cost will also depend on the quantity and value. I have and ABN that I plan on using, but unless I know people are interested in the product it is not worth my while registering with the company as a distributor, probably better to just place large orders for all those interested... we will just have to wait and see the response and see how it goes first
