  1. Hi there... I Have a 24 week old Amstaff male who`s been itching like Mad over the past 2 weeks.I Took him to the local vet For a checkOver..Firstly she took a skin swab(Was hoping for 3 but only Managed 1) She tested for Mites Firstly And that Was Negative..Next step was food Allergies..My puppy only eats raw meats and eukanuba dry food..Occassionally a few raw eggs..Vet gave me a list of foods to try him on..Rabbit..Kangaroo..Venassen..Turkey..Potatoes And Pumpkin..thats it..No More Dry Food Either..this test is over one week..She Also Perscribed Prednisolone to him for the itching..Prednisolone is a very Serious Drug that should only given short term its a quick fix at the time and dosent fix the problem long term..After We got home we decided the vets advice didnt really help anything..Food Allergys. Then Enviroment testing..the skin scrapes would go on and on until a solution is found..Could be Diagnosed Quickly or Could take Years..Ive searched the Net and Amstaffs are prone to skin conditions.. Weve put him on a ReD Meat and fish oil Diet for a weeks trial...He has four 1500mg capsules of fish oil poured on his steak with Breakfast then just plain meat for lunch and tea... Been Applying oil to his legs aswell where hes been Noaring at them(creating bald spots) Its Day 3 today and we can see a big improvement Aready..Hes not itching much and his legs are looking good again.. Preservatives play a huge role in puppys skin problems also.. Im not saying the vet is wrong we just chose not to put our puppie on meds.. All puppys skin problems are diffrent so im not saying this diet will work for all amstaffs.. But it has so far for ours..
