  2. Artemis have some stock that is nearing its best before date of 21/2/14. They are offering this to individuals at a huge saving of $40.00 per bag (12.7kg)for all flavours..Salmon & Brown Rice, Duck & Brown Rice and Lamb & Brown Rice. Its a single source protein so very suitable for dogs with skin & digestive issues. Please also feel free to email them with your nominations for rescue groups for donations, they have already donated a significant amount to rescue groups.
  3. I didnt go through the whole posts so it may have been mentioned but an update to Countrywide cottages in Bambra Vic ( listed under Vic at the start) they do now have fully fenced HUGE yards. The yards can be accessed from the decks if you dog is fine going up and down stairs or ther is also a gate at the fron if your dogs cant do stairs. Fantastic location and VERY dog friendly.
  4. Listed on Ebay is a Genuine single door car barrier from Puppy Bars for Huyundai Santa Fe.
  5. Unfortunatey they all have chicken fat in them. I actually thought you said he wasnt allergic to chicken though, also 99% of dogs that are allergic to a meat are allergic to the protein source, not the fat. Having vast experience with an allergy dog myself I'd highly suggest you get your dog allergy tested to determine exactly what the triggers are, I did the SPOT blood test for my girl which can actually determine potential food allergies too. She is allergic to chicken meat ( protein) but is fine with chicken fat in the food. She reacts to many other things and has been on the desensitizing injections for the past 4 years, with great success I might add, it would be physically impossible to remove all the allergens from this dogs life, grasses, plants, etc etc. unless I locked her up in a sterile environment and that is no life for a dog.
  6. Happy to send you out some samples of the new Artemis Osopure Grain Free and the SOS single source protein for your clients to try, both have moderate levels of protein and fat, pm me for more details.
  7. The new osopure grain free varieties from artemis are getting terrific feedback. Might be worth a try.
  8. Just to clarify and get a tad more technical:) Ash is not actually added back into foods. Ash is what is left after the total food ( meat and anything else in the food)is completely incinerated, i.e. protein, fats and carbs are completely burnt away leaving only minerals, which include calcium, phosphorus, zinc, iron and many others. These minerals are the food's ash content, which is just a way of describing the mineral content of the pet food. The general accepted amount of ash in a high quality pet food is between 5 & 8% much higher and you have to ask how much bone is in the food compared to actual meat.
  9. Holistic Select have a grain-free version of their Salmon, Sardine & Anchovy formula, which became available in the US last November... I'm not sure when it becomes available in Australia, though... I think it takes two years to get here/to go through our strict AQIS requirements (that's what they told me at TOTW). Sorry but that info re the 2 years / AQIS is absolute rubbish. Artemis released there 3 new Grain Free products in the USA in Sept 2012 and the first shipment arrived here on 4th Jan 2013.
  10. Same scenario here with our two - with dandruff to boot unfortunately I know when it comes down to it BH is a business, but I must admit I was a tad disappointed to see a huge promotion for it in Pets Parasites today I'd heard good things about Evo which I'm led to believe was a PP only product until recently, so there's really not much that's turning me away from giving that a try now I think I can safely say that out of all the Major brands of pet food available in Australia, Artemis is the only 1 that you will not find in a pet shop selling puppies & Kittens. Thanks for the "heads up" regarding Artemis. I was unaware of that & I am very pleased that they don't. I am dead against anything with a heartbeat being sold in a Pet Shop. I was going to give Artemis a try with my guys too as they have a new grain free variety available & see how they go as they are quite fussy at times :) I am not sure if this is true or not, but I was told once, that under the Rules of the Dept of Fair Trading, it is unlawful to refuse to sell your product to a business that has an ABN number. Something to do with with the Restrictive Trades Act. So if a certain pet shop wants to buy a certain product, legally, there is nothing the manufacturer can do. Let me set you straight Sheena if you are not sure :) http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml?itemId=304569 As the ACCC states "There are a few circumstances only when a refusal to deal is made illegal by the Trade Practices Act. These are dealt with in this leaflet. In general, businesses may decide for themselves with whom they wish to deal. No one has the absolute right to be supplied. Artemis' policy has always been to not supply Pet Shops who sell puppies & kittens.

  12. Thanks very much. All the new Artemis formulas will also be here early Jan, there is a Grain Free Salmon & a Salmon & Rice included in these.
  13. Shepherds it is obvious to anyone who reads your posts that you care for this dog very much and as such you will make the right decision in the end, we just have to go through all these terrible feelings and self doubt to get there:) Be guided by the vets also, my vet said that 1 of the reasons he respects Charles so much is because he will be honest if he doesnt think it would be in the dog's best interests to operate. We were lucky with Trinta as it was still very small ( I actually found it by chance when I was expressing her anal glands)and a CT scan showed it hadnt spread. I had to let Becky, another GSD go at 8 due to cancer that was inoperable, I hated that so much but loved her too much to make her stay with me and yes I do beleieve they know when they are sick. Becky wanted to go I am sure, Trinta just isnt ready yet. I know you will do whatever is best for your baby. Hugzzzz
  14. I am sorry to hear about your boy but I also recommend you ask your vet to refer you to a specialist. My 11 1/2 year old GSD was diagnosed with an anal gland adenocarcinoma in June this year, my vet immediately sent me to South Paws in Moorabin to Dr Charles Kuntz, the man is a genious and operated on my girl and removed the whole tumor with clear margins. Research had told me that a very high percentage of dogs who have this op will have permanent feacal incontinence but Dr Charles told me he has done many, many of these ops and has not had 1 dog become incontinent. Today my girl is still chasing swallows on the beach :) I wish you all the very best of luck as I know how devastating the news can be.
  15. From what I can tell, there's no scientific evidence of harmful effects resulting from Ethoxyquin (it's used as a preservative) in the levels found in pet foods. There seems be be some anecdotal reports of a myriad of health concerns surrounding Ethoxyquin - like just about everything our dogs (or us humans) eat. Some of the stuff on Google is just plain hyperbolic scaremongering. I don't know about the others. PS - According to the Royal Canin FAQs: Yes Luke you are quiet right about the Ethoxyquin, however the same cant be said for BHA & BHT, these are listed as carcinogenic and banned in many countries including most of Europe, Japan and California. Royal Canin always used to use these in their foods as a preservative, since I understand most of their food is made in Europe this would probably explain why they have now taken it out. You cannot assume that no pet food manufacturer uses these just because they are not listed on the bag, although some do like Hills ZD for example, so as previously stated you have to ask the manufacturer of the foods the question if you are at all worried. Interestingly enough you can still find BHA & BHT in many of the foods we eat ourselves here in Australia.
  16. Hi k9katz. I am not sure what happened to the thread...I havn't been on for a couple of hours, so not sure what got it deleted. It's good to be aware of what we are feeding our pets AND ourselves, I sure you would agree. I shall do some Googling for BHA & BHT...thanks for that :) ETA...I found this information on BHA & BHT which some people might find interesting (quote) What foods contain BHA and BHT? BHA is generally used to keep fats from becoming rancid. It is also used as a yeast de-foaming agent. BHA is found in butter, meats, cereals, chewing gum, baked goods, snack foods, dehydrated potatoes, and beer. It is also found in animal feed, food packaging, cosmetics, rubber products, and petroleum products. BHT also prevents oxidative rancidity of fats. It is used to preserve food odor, color, and flavor. Many packaging materials incorporate BHT. It is also added directly to shortening, cereals, and other foods containing fats and oils.(quote) Probably another good reason for avoiding foods that contain artificial preservatives. I am glad the kibble I feed my dogs does not contain this. Yep Totally agree, it is very important to read the labels of all products but even more important to understand what the statements mean or what the ingredients listed actually are. If anyone has any doubts about something rather than get bogged down with all sorts of info from the internet, go straight to the supplier and ask them outright, thats what they are there for and there shouldnt be any hesitation to answer your concerns.
  17. It looks to me like Sheena's topic on Ethoxyquin was removed, that's a shame as I wanted to reply to her. Here is my reply for those who are interested. As far as I know this doesn't contravene any rules and regulations. I'd like to thank you for pointing out that the website listed in my DOL profile is no longer valid, you are quiet correct, that business was closed over 12 months ago and I have now removed that. Just goes to show that there can be lots of info on the internet that is out of date and incorrect and if you are not sure about the validity of something, its best to ask first and obtain the correct information from confirmed reliable sources. I notice that you double posted this also in another thread ( not sure of the relevance in that thread but still...and that you had never heard of Ethoxyquin until "today" - posted 13th June 12 so presumably you have no idea what BHA & BHT are either. These are also contraversial preservatives that can be found in many pet foods that are manufactured both here and in other countries, including the USA. Many thanks.
  18. Personally I'd prefer to keep her on the Super Premium Foods she likes rather than feed Hills! Think outside the square, does she like toys? If she will chew a hard rubber toy like a Kong that can help to keep her teeth clean too.
  19. Artemis are doing a special on some 13.6kg bags that have a best before date of 9/2/12 - perfectly good to feed after this date as its only a best before. First in best dressed. $89.25 a bag - contact them for further details and shipments.
  20. For anyone in the vicinity of KCC park tomorrow and wanting more details on ARTEMIS pet foods, we will be there all day sponsoring the Golden Retriever Champ Show, The GRC / Gordon Setter RTG Obedience Trial and the GRC RATG so do come and say HI!
  21. I have 2 German Sheps, a 10 1/2 year old female with pearly white teeth, and a 7 year old boy who was showing some plaque on his teeth. Both eat dry food as their main diet with little extras thrown in.(nothing that would clean teeth!) Chicken necks are useless with them, swallowed almost whole and the female is allergic to chicken anyway so no good. Bones upset the boy so that's no good. I bought a Nylabone Dura Chew Monster and within 1 week my boys teeth were magnificent! He loves it and its safe. I wouldnt feed Pigs Ears or Rawhide chews.
  22. Aww poor thing:( I had to have a lump removed from my boy's neck and an elizabethan collar wasnt appropriate so I put a thick sock on his back foot and secured it with elastoplast tape. That worked for me, when he tried to scratch it at least the sock was soft, it might help - otherwise the all nighter might be in order, I suggest lots of strong coffee! Good Luck and hope he feels better tomorrow.
  23. Any of the online stores will send Artemis to your parents but if you have any problems getting it whatsoever just email me at [email protected] , happy to send food anywhere in Australia and the freight price to Saratoga would be $9.65 for a big 13.6kg bag
