  1. Yes, both lines are availble at Classic show supplies and I think Dog Essentials also sells both. Cheaper to find them online though!
  2. I advertise the litter on DOL full stop and say there are show prospects available. But it depends on if you want to keep the best for yourself....personally, if I'm selling a show prospect, I make sure it's a really good pup to start with.
  3. What 2 Ps said Crazy Daisy, really, when it's a trainee judge going over the dog, there is no problem. I take my dogs in for judges' lectures and I have specifically asked this question. I am still allowed to enter under that trainee judge for open shows and then also once they have their champ qualification. The real problem starts when, for example, a judge who is going to judge your group soon wants to go over your dog outside the ring.... it's a matter of ethics. If anyone wants to go over my dog, I ask if they have a judging appointment any time in the next 6 months. It's unethical for a judge to go over a dog outside the ring and then judge it in a champ show within 6 months. For example, if your neighbour was a judge, they shouldn't touch your dogs within 6 months of their judging appointment if you intend to enter under them.
  4. I don't know what sort of dogs you have but Meat City at Caboolture has whole (frozen) rabbits for $14 each (just noticed it this morning). Also you could try BARF available at a number of Brissy Nth stores - there's a rabbit variety. No rabbits in Qld you know! ;)
  5. Perhaps much of what is being said here is breed-based? Just a thought as many of you here objecting to charging more for a rare colour, come from breeds where colour genetics are predictable. I have 2 breeds where the colour genetics are unknown so if a rarer colour pops up, it really is unusual and BUYERS are prepared to go to great lengths and pay a heck of a lot more for "what's fashionable" - fellow exhibitors/breeders and pet people alike. Put simply, gold/creams and blacks are far more common and take longer to sell. The colours in my breeds have no ill effect health-wise and the price will reflect the quality of the dog no matter the colour. But if the colour is rare, why not charge more to meet the market? You guys are SELLING dogs aren't you?? Or are you really going to sell your rare *pink diamond* for the same price as your regular diamonds because " they are all diamonds" !!!!????
  6. 4 days plus is getting into tricky territory :D In your case, mating over 2-3 days is totally normal and no, 2 days will make absolutely no difference. 4 days to a week starts getting tricky as you have to imagine 1 week of pregnancy in a dog equals 1 month of pregnancy in a human so a bub who is one week less in development will be the equivalent of one month premmie in a human - that's a laymans' way of explaining it to you. Most bitches will be mated over 2 or 3 days and most breeders will only allow a bitch to be mated for 3 days maximum. I experienced it because I AI'd a bitch and then 5 days later she decided to have a natural mating (accidental). One pup was 76 grams whilst her smallest sibling was 180 grams -the largest 250 grams - huge difference which the repro vet has attributed to the difference in mating times. I would never put off get a puppy from a litter just because the matings were 2 days apart!! Now that's ridiculous!!
  7. 2 days later is not a problem but if there's a huge gap between matings/ conception, then *yes* it can cause smaller pups or pups at different development stages. Above posters are correct - it does matter when the fertilisation occurs - and believe you me Team snags - having a 76 gram puppy is not a walk in the park .
  8. Where abouts is she Tapua? Could be worthwhile getting her to check out the breed profiles of the breeds mentioned and then checking out a local show (after taking a load of pills!)
  9. No TTs are not a brachy breed and in fact Tibetan Spaniels are not *meant* to be either!
  10. Havanese :D All the breeds mentioned are all quite different as far as temperament and energy go...what sort of dog does your friend want? Bedlington Lagotto...and others but I can't think right now! :D
  11. How's his poo now? I would get some Yakult or probiotic tabs (like Inner Health Plus) into him - can't hurt and will help with his sore gut as well promoting good bacteria. Give roast chicken a miss and try just steaming plain chicken with no skin and continue with that and rice. A bit of a mystery but the above should help a little.
  12. Exactly Spikes Puppy - the new owners OS really just have to take my word for it that the dogs are purebred I discussed it with Dogs Qld at the time and they agreed that was all I could do - but I did supply a copy of the pedigree paper with the microchip number on it. If I have an OS buyer for a pup which I deem a pet, I may as well not register it at all.........and I'm pretty sure this is not the direction the CCs want to go....
  13. I have said that in previous posts Sandra I exported 2 pet TTs last year - desexed before they left but I could only keep them registered in my name and send copies of the pedigrees as I had already placed them on the LR. Would've been better for the new owners to have the dogs in their name - no export pedigree could be issued because LR dogs cannot be exported..
  14. Sorry Steve but you are wrong. Perhaps it's a different rule for Qld? (AGAIN! ) I have an LR paper in front of me and on the back it says: "Limited Register Regulations - A dog shall only be eligible for registration in the limited register if it is: 1) ineligible for exhibition at a conformation show;or 2) for any reason, not to be used for breeding purposes;or 3) not entire or has been desexed;and 4) not eligible for export"
  15. I *must* register a red sable Havanese on the Limited Register in Australia - it is not a recognised colour according to the ANKC Breed Standard. I can't then export that dog as a pet as it is on the Limited Register - 'tis the rules. Limit Register dogs cannot be exported (with papers). Red Sable is an acceptable colour for a Havanese in the USA - but I can't register that dog on the Main Register in order for it to be exported and shown in America. How is that NOT restriction of trade? The only option is to diddle the colour when I submit my litter rego papers - that's against the rules - but ok - the pup is now officially "fawn". Just a hypothetical as I've never bred a sable
  16. Last time I flew a pup O/S, the pup was required to be 12 weeks and that was a quarantine (federal) requirement and not an ANKC thing.
  17. The export pedigree is registered to him therefore his name appears in our journals. So there is a point where all these dogs are officially "his". I just want to qualify my "employees" comment by saying there are certain prefixes - and we all know them - which are breeding exclusively for McDougal. They are Australian-based breeders, paid by him to get what he needs as far as pups are concerned and I *believe* he sets up individuals and pays them well to keep raising these litters and registering pups under their own prefix and solely exporting the litters to McDougal. Over the years, I have only ever occasionally seen an "outsider" - or more "insider" someone within the dog world - export to McDougal.
  18. So why can't state CCs or ANKC do exactly the same?? (which is what I was suggesting in an earlier post.) If you don't want to follow the rules, don't join the club!! The CCs/ANKC won't register certain colours in an otherwise perfectly healthy specimen of a breed - why doesn't that come under "fair trading" why can't I export that animal? I CAN'T because being the incorrect colour by the rules and regs of the CCs/ANKC, the animal must go onto the Limited Register and you are not allowed to export Limited Register puppies. Well, you can export the actual animal, but it won't have ANKC pedigree papers in the new owners' name.
  19. I'm not a vet but as long there was no sign of mites (indicating the vet did a swab of her ears), I believe what you have been prescribed is EXACTLY what your dog should have.... How do you expect the problem to clear up if you are not cleaning her ears????!!! My girl is starting her course of Dermotic today - I've found it to be excellent in the past when dealing with yeasty ears. With the ongoing problems your girl has had, it is highly likely that she has gone from yeasty ears to a bacterial infection. She might now also need an antibiotic. I don't think you need another vet - your vet has done a good job but you are not keeping up with your end. Take her back to the vet, get a swab to determine exactly what is needed medication-wise and get her ears cleaned out and plucked under anaesthetic and then continue with the treatment your vet has prescribed - TO THE LETTER!!! Ears are annoying to treat for an owner - but the poor dog is irritable, itchy, unwell and in pain. Hope you get her ears cleaned up soon.
  20. Firstly, sort out how the puppy died. Secondly, if the death is legitimately warranting a refund - if the pup was in your name and you sold the dog, then IMHO it's your responsibility to provide a refund - it's nothing to with the breeder at that point in time. Thirdly, just a question which could change what I said in my "secondly" comments - did the pup go straight from the breeder to the puppy buyer or did the pup go from your home?
  21. Thanks, this is what I was trying to get to in my last post but you've said it better. :D The above rule is similar in every state. The CCs being "toothless tigers" once again springs to mind. Federal trade restrictions can't stop a club having rules and regs - isn't it simple that members who don't abide by the rules be chucked out?? I don't believe we need more rules and regs - just enforce the ones we've got! I do Steve and I totally agree with your example. Getting back to exports - I do object to the sheer volume of pups exported *to* McDougal particularly as they are entire puppies on the ANKC Main Register - please tell me how that is ethical? I really can't see that the *employees* he sets up in Australia are doing anything for the breeds they pump out.
  22. The Canine Councils are private membership where you have to pay a fee to be registered each year. There are rules and you have to follow them. Someone like McDougal who sets up Australian citizen "employees" and gets them a prefix, is flouting the lax breeding requirements and export conditions the CCs place on pups and breeders. They may be following the rules but by DOG - a long way to go as far as ethics are concerned. Surely being a private organisation, the CCs have a say as to the rules their members must follow? I hear "fair trading" bandied about a lot but if you don't want to follow the rules of a club including the ethical requirements, how is that against fair trading? Go breed the pups if you want to but do it without the blessing of the CCs. I can hear you Steve LOL - about to say, "but we should be encouraging new breeders" and while I strongly agree, these "agents" are not who we should be encouraging! It's high volume puppy farmers like McDougal who give ethical registered breeders a bad name. It's the McDougals we need to weed out first and then start on smaller registered BYBs who are keeping their dogs in less than satisfactory conditions. And I'm not talking "new rules" but how about simply enforcing the ones have in place already? You are not allowed to export Limit Register puppies and I think that's wrong. We should be encouraging use of the Limit Register for puppies exported as pets.
  23. 4th December is the next show at the Canine Control Grounds King Ave, Durack. It's pretty quiet for shows from now until the end of January so perhaps it's best to start a thread so people can help you decide which breed? That way you could contact breeders and see if they will be at Durack on that date!
