I also have two licky-monsters. beatrice is worse than Henry. We've tried a lot of things now we just put up with it. As soon as beatrice sees you she licks you! She is almost rabid half the time!

I am so awfully sorry for your loss. You have made the ultimate sacrifice, something only a true dog lover could do- You have taken his pain and made it your own. Bless you for that. RIP sam.

I totally agree with what StaffordsRule said. For my dogs, a BARF diet hasn't been as successful as I had hoped, in fact they have done a lot better on the cooked home made meals I prepare. It is not a cost issue for me because we only buy organic meat/dairy/veges/fruit for us anyway so it doesn't cost much more to feed the dogs- they are pretty tiny after all! The meals I give them change every now and then, but basicaly I cook fresh chicken with spinach, carrot and rice. Or I cook lamb with veges and rice. I also make up a smelly meal that they love, it is eggs, sardines and lamb mince cooked up together like scrambled eggs. I give them raw bones for their teeth. When they go to day-care I pack a small handful of Royal Canin each as a snack while they are there. I have tried a dry food diet on its own, I have tried a totally raw food diet and I have tried the Barf patties as well. My dogs are in great health and the vet says their teeth are perfect. I will not be told that I am not feeding them the best diet possible, for these two it IS the best diet as they do best on this diet. My MIL has a 16 year old Westie who has eaten Pal tinned food his whole life, and a Scottie who died 2 years ago aged 16. Same diet. Every dog is different and they are like humans, some have allergies and other things that affect how they digest their food. I am happy and confident with the diet I have chosen for my dogs.

I don't feed my dogs very much dry food anymore, usually if they are going to my parents' house for the day or at daycare- I'll pack them some. At home I prepare their food myself. The only dry food they like is the Royal Canin minis. I have tried Eukanuba and Eagle Pack but they weren't that interested.

Our vet has recently prescribed some eye medication for our dogs who have a bit of an eye infection. The medication is veterinary medication for animals only and it is called Ilium Chloroint. The ingredients sound similar- 10mg/g Chloramphenicol 5mg/g Hydro Cortisone Acetate Sounds pretty similar, I wouldn't be worried.

2c worth from the worlds worst coat stripper- FOLLOW RAZ'S ADVICE -DON'T USE THE STONE!! I found out recently that the reason my boy's coat hasn't been responding well to stripping was my use of the stone. With some coats it works fine, but not Henry's and it was the reason his colour looked dull and broken. All sorted now. I have thrown out the stone!

Oh hell this is just awful. I am so so sorry. What an awful thing to happen, rest in peace little one. I hope Jinta recovers from the loss as well and my heart goes out to you and all your family. I know how hard it is to lose a furkid over Christmas. I am so sorry.

I don't think I "slagged off" the product at all. The article is available publically so I'm not broadcasting anything private. Since the article appearde on another forum, a few other Griffon people have come forward and told about having to have them removed from their dogs' insides surgically. Those are certainly factual situations. I had no idea. They say they are digestible so I saw no problem with them. Until now... I got lots of them, I bought them in bulk.. Unless I have their guts exrayed I won't know if they are still inside them or not. *something to discuss withthe vet, I guess*

Hey everyone, I thought I should post this story here for you to see. I give my pair of munchkins GREENIES because they are said to be good for teeth and so on. Because one of my dogs has had several incidents choking on bones because he gobbles them, I have to crush them up for him. GREENIES he never gobbles so I thought they were a good alternative for his teeth since he ignores large meaty bones. Hello Lex Ang, I have never owned a Westie but I do have a rough coated breed that also requires hand-stripping. I agree with Raz and whoever else said that it is better to handstrip the coat than clip it. The issue for you however, is that your Westie has been clipped for years already and I dare say this is the main point. To get his or her coat back to a reasonable texture and so on, s/he would have to be stripped back many times. One of my dogs has been clipped only once. Before we got her. We are working on seeing if her hair can roughen up a bit, so far no luck. I am a shocking groomer, have received lots of advice about it, so I ca tell you all about the theory of it, but practically I am a shocker. For a dog that have been clipped for so long, stripping him/her now may be more trouble than it is worth. If this was my dog I'd probably continue with clipping because switching now will be a task and a half and may not work in the end. Mr GT's mum has a Westie he is 17years old, a lovely boy. A bit blind and deaf but still a character in his old age. he was stripped for the first few months but has since been clipped. He doesn't shed much and his coat still looks lovely. He is clipped a little shorter than usual during the warmer months. That's probably what you will have to do to ensure your Westie doesn't overheat or anything. Good luck! I for one now exactly what you are going through with this dilemma. In fact we are almost certain we are going to stop stripping our girl who was clipped because it just isn't making a difference for her coat. I know a Griffon exhibitor how has spent the last 18 months stripping her boy back to bald pretty much every 6 weeks. When she got him his coat had been clipped so many times it was almost white (should be red) and she has eventually got his coat to be red and rough. Every 6 weeks for 18 months she did this. A big job lemme tell ya! She is an exhibitor so she has some motivation to do it, I'm not sure you'd want to do it though.

Hmmm now I wonder if I have just exposed myself as some sort of freak who likes gross tasting things... Mr GT says I am gross for liking Chinotto and for eating lemons... maybe all this time he has been right?! I haven't smoked any cigars, or anything for that matter! Steve not sure about the accreditation on the juice, I haven't seen anything like that- maybe I am buying poorman's aloe juice. Ughh the shame! Actually I will check it out properly this weekend when I do my grocery shopping. I like to make my own juice, I like this combo: Pomelo (when there is none, I get Grapefruit) Celery, Ginger, Passionfruit & Mint. Maybe my dogs have freak taste too because they like the juices I give them- esp Henry. He is a fruit eating monster! In terms of healthy guts, I have to say that ever since I stopped making my own version of Barf and switching to SassyTreats meals together with yakult and aloe and other juices, my two have looked great. No poo problems or vomiting. If only my squirrel runt would put on some weight...

Hey guys if you really can't stand the aloe juice on its own you can buy it mixed with kiwi juice. I actually quite like it...

Now, I know it is mean to make a spectacle of the sick... but could you maybe post a few pics of the little guy in his singlet? Sounds so cute!! :D I give mine the aloe and yakult mix about once a month, the yakult on its own every few days. The reasons I give it to them is because they have had tummy upstes in the past as have I, and I was told to drink it so I figured it would work on them too. I don't suggest you try the aloe and chicken combo though! :D

Will he drink Yakult? I've mixed it into that before and Henry had some. In fact Henry liked it, looked foul though a murkey greenish colour. The Yakult is meant to be good for their tummies as well...

BE VERY CAREFUL with puppies who gobble their raw bones. We almost lost Henry when he gobbled half a chicken wing. It got stuck in his throat, he stopped breathing and lost consciousness. I had to stick my finger down his throat to dislodge it then rush him to the vet. He spent a few days at the vet because they were worried he has punctured his oesophogus. Eventually he passed it through and was ok in the end. Had to be on a soft food diet for a fortnight. Now I use a hammer and bash the bones first. He still gobbles but he can't choke now.

I now feed our two Sassy Treats Main Course meals. I pay about $6 for a large container and it lasts about 3 days, I also give them some Eagle Pack biscuits for brekafast. Sassy Teats is an all organic all raw diet, with veges, meats and some with rice or millet. Our two love the Moroccan Chicken, it has kelp, millet, raw chicken, peas, egg shell powder and some other stuff. It is delivered to our door free and I am very pleased with it. I used to make my own barf stuff but was always worried I had left something out or got the percentages wrong. I still feed them fruit and yakult every day. About once a fortnight I feed them sardines and salmon sashimi. I think it has made a big difference in their coats- they used to have dandruff.

Shek that is awesome news!! I know exactly how streessful it is when your babies won't eat. It can be pretty scary- well for a worrywort like me anyway. Both of mine went through a weird phase where they became picky and would only eat obscure things. It got to the point where I was buying sashimi for Henry and making chicken porridge for Beatrice every day (lack of decent freezer). Then I found SassyTreats- all organic raw human grade food, made to order and delivered to my door. Now they eat that happily and will even enjoy the odd bowl of Eagle Pack. It is such a relief. You know, sometimes you just have to do what you sense is right for your pooch as opposed to what is commonly perceived to be right. You know what I mean? Dogs have invididual tastes as well, so sometime they just don't like something and that is fair enough. So great that there is something he likes, it means you can gradually replace it with more healthy alternatives as you please. Great news!!

I give Henry a tin of sardines or a sandwich tin of tuna every single day. He had it quite badly and I tried oily fish once a week then twice a week and finally it improved once it became a daily thing.

My Henry adores fruit before anything else. There is no cut of meat or bone or anything he would rather eat than a piece of raw fruit. His favourite is passionfruit, followed by orange and then pomelo. He doesn't like apples as much but seems to like the odd grape that falls off the bunch I am eating! His sister Beatrice, hates fruit.

Tramissa if you are in Sydney they deliver for free (Pet Deli) We got the combo roll so it has a bit of everything in it- smells quite flavoursome! I'm not tasting it though ! lol

Hey I know what you mean Cazbear, it is tricky but maybe I should have rephrased it to say " have access to a few thousand" rathere than "have" a few thousand! Like credit cards or maybe a access to a loan with someone you know or some other way. After $2000 in one week for us we know that it is imperitive, I mean what would have happened if we couldn't pay the vet and it turned out to be something worse than a food intollerance?
