  1. I don't think the average pet owner wants a dog that has a lot of drive and the potential to protect them. If they did they would already own a working line dog :D A lot of dogs (of all breeds) end up in the pound because their owners could not handle them - too much drive or exercise requirements, were too destructive or protective etc. Unsuitable dog for them.

Just touching on this part, many average Aussies want a companion, and a "watch" dog they go to the local paper or online classified in search of one and they do not generally consider working lines or showlines, just a breed of dog. Then said person gets disappointed when the dog will let all and sundry through the backyard and say "oh but it's a (insert breed here) and are caught by surprise...I hear this all the time from just regular dog owning people..........I dare say many end up in the pounds and given away because they weren't what was expected..

  2. I know of a couple breeders that rent, the main hassel is moving and findig a place where you can keep the dogs...

True, if you can find a home with a long term arrangement and keep a small amount of dogs, no prob's at all. Usually private is the way too go.

  3. It costs the same to raise a coloured puppy to a black/white puppy.

It costs the same to raise a main registered pup and a limit registered pupIt costs the same to raise a male pup and a female pup.

Why charge more for any of the above? To me, it is only profiteering. If you feel comfortable doing it, then go for it. If your morals prevent you charging more for a fad, then you should stick to those..

How many so called registered ethical breeders condemn the colour breeders, those whose charge more for male/female or those who charge more for main/limit, only to do it themselves??

You expect to pay the same price for a breed potential imported lineage pup on main registry,

or a pup from a renowned kennel esteemed for producing consistent trademark type,

for the same price as their pet limited-reg counterparts?

If not, it is profiteering and all about morals?

Hmm thats an interesting perpective, I'm thinking of a few kennels whom I now might just ask for a discount based on that ethos ... see what puppy I end up with

the cheek of me wanting their bloodlines and the years of their expertise and trained eye, to benefit my learning and my dogs

but I dont want to pay for it

    uh-huh

bcz if they were breeders with morals, they would sell me their standout pup representing their breeding effort

for the same price as a pet ...

    ???

With Main reg you are not only buying a dog, you are buying its pedigree, and you expect that pedigree to also benefit the future breeding and standing of your own dogs, else you would not seek it.

Agree. I have no problems with people selling different prices for differing registrations etc a pet on limited is limited in capability, breeding showing and so forth. A main, is more option potential for that puppy not necessarily a guarantee of better for lack of a better word but the option is there. Access to those lines to go on with etc...

  4. Decent eye candy nek, very solid Mr. :)

Not that you asked about his conformation anywhere in this thread..... he does have a bit of a "preggers" lol look to his manly chest.

    Have fun drooling.

  5. Thanks for the afternoons laugh LOL

What was that sticker on my old car , something about

" Pedigree dogs, ask a breeder, the gardener doesn't know "

Priceless :( where did you come by it?

Strange call alright. Very condescending!

We had them handed out to us in about 1996 ( 'twas a long time ago ). I have a feeling that Toohey or Jed may have revived the sticked in the last couple of years.

The British Bulldog folk, took exception to his ways and mass produced them.

Thanks would love to get one someday.

  6. RIP Beautiful Boy.

I am sincerely saddened another amazing Rott has gone but too a place they can truly express themselves and run pain free. Thinking of you and Stan and family at this time Sue. Take care, a hole will be left in your heart, but know all greats live through their babies as Ash will and already is. :mad :mad

:)RIP GR CH BLICKSCHARF ASHKE CD ET

  7. Black Bronson - Check your Globe, we are not in Germany, in no show is it a pre-requisite for a dog to have a working title to be shown. Just because a dog has a working title does not make it a better dog. :p and as Aziah stated everyone has differing opinions and personal preferences :p

A dog may have a working title but does not anatomically meet the breed standard.

A champion dog should meet the full criteria and more importantly given that the breed is a working dog, great conformation in a dog lacking the genetics to work is no champion GSD and should never be rated as such.

    :)
