  1. Sounds great! What kind of car do you have?

I'd be interested in getting something similar for my dual cab when I get it. The only requirement would that it needs to be removable, so we can go camping with it still.

I have a SsangYong Actyon Sports 4 x 4 Dual Cab Ute. It is about one month old now. This is a photo taken the day I bought it and it was clean.

That was also one of the requirements for us too. I can give you the details once it has been completed and if/when we are happy with it if you would like. They are at Beverley. I can also let you know who not to use.

  2. Hopefully, google is my friend. I spent hours last night searching online for someone who would make a dog cage for me. I found a few possibilities. Today at work, I decided to ring one of them. This was the last company on my list but I decided to call them first for some reason. After talking to the owner, I found out that they actually make and install cages for a lot of the council ranger vehicles and the RSPCA amounst a lot of other things.

I decided to drop in there after work today as I had an early finish. I was impressed with the owner. He measured up while I was there. When I told him exactly what I wanted, he said that it wouldn't be any problem. I am just waiting for the quote but I am pretty sure I will go ahead and have them do it.

  3. Just noticed a certain someone's breeder bashing website (the one with the name vewwwy similar to the name of a far more reputable pure breed site/forum *cough*) has been pruned down rather a lot.

Although he didn't actually bother to delete the pages, just removed the links from the menu and left them accessible by changing the URL. The n00b

Can you message me the site please?

    Me too, please

  4. hi guys, this forum looks fairly inactive lately. I just wanted to say thanks for helping me choose this breed! Such beautiful dogs! Let me know if theres ever a meetup in Sydney!

They are a fantastic breed to own but be aware, they are addictive.

  5. I have just ordered a new hydrobath and I am after some suggestions for shampoos to use with it and also amounts to use. Elkhound's undercoats are supposed to be soft and they have a course outer coat. I want something that will also help to keep their whites sparkling white. HamiltonStovare also have similar coat types to the Elkies.

  6. We've just purchased a 2nd hand wagon (Ford 94 Futura) and so have the option of putting Kei in the back now rather than the usual fur covered back seats

I'm just wondering what the best option are?

    So far ideas are:

Cargo barrier, boot liner and harness (secured to the child safety bolt thingo) - easy to clean, easy to set up, relatively cheap ...but I can see me using the backseat most if the time if he's in a harness simply because it easy :champagne:

Custom built crate - this is my preferred option but not sure on price or how I would go about it. Can you buy these ready made and just fit them in?

Wire crate anchored down somehow - plenty of room for it but not sure how I would secure it down?

Back seat hammock covers are a no go since there are no head-rests in the back. (same problem I had with the last car and the reason why the back seat is filthy)

I prefer him in either a crate or a harness, not keen on just putting up a barrier and having him loose in the back.

When I had my Commodore wagon, I used your first idea and this was successful. I have just bought a dual cab ute for the dogs and I am having a cage custom made for it. They are making it eactly the way we wanted. They are also making a ramp for the dogs to use to get in the tray. I can send you the details of who is doing it if you would like.

Have you tried their feed? I hear it's great quality, made in Australia, cheap and wonderful for putting condition on dogs.

Yes, SAS I have tried Brock on both Great Barko and Uncle Albers and lets just say his bowel motions were just water. It has far too much fat content for him. A couple of my Elkies are fed it because they were hard to get weight on due to their lines and it is great food for them.

  8. I mix 1 cup of rolled oats (just homebrand ones) with about 1.25 cups of water and microwave for 3 mins. Let it sit for a few mins and then pour over milk (I've been using rice milk but others use goats milk) until it is the same consistency as you'd eat it. I mix it through his kibble for breakfast.

Thanks Danois. I will give it a try after I go shopping tomorrow. At this stage, I am prepared to try just about anything.

  9. I have had success with the Eagle Pack Power formula for getting weight on.

If you look on EP's website the Anchovy food is actually recommended for less active dogs and weight management. I was feeding it and was frustrated at how skinny Boo was then read their site...

Thanks Danois. The reason we started him on the Salmon and Anchovy is because he can't eat any food with too much fat. The Power and anything fatty goes straight through him since he had part of his intestine removed. We are feeding him low fat but frequently.

Thanks KM. I did contact Eagle Pack and they also suggested the Salmon and Anchovy or the Duck after discussing his problems with their vet in the US.
