Natural Rearing of my dogs.Showing, breeding, herbs, homeopathy, reading.
  1. Having fed my Afghans and Ibizan Hounds the diet of Juliette de Bairacli Levy for going on 35 years now an old fashioned diet but a good one and one I love to feed my dogs and they have all done well on it. They have rolled oats on a morning with yoghurt, fruit sometimes and a bit of honey, and raw meat offal and bones on a night veggies and fish once or twice a week plus a few suppliments.Juliettes book The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat. is well worth a read, but again this diet is not for every one,so just feed what you are comfortable withand what your dogs do well on.
  2. To those of you who knew of Juliette de Bairacli Levy,it is with great sadness to have to say this great lady passed away aged 98 on the 28th May 2009 To those of you who do not know of her,Juliette was and still is the Grandmother of Herbal Medicine and Natural Rearing of all animals. I have reared many litters of puppies,Afghans and Ibizan hounds and also my adults using her methods for over 28years with truly great results. She was and still is a true inspiration. She was a very special lady. RIP Juliette.Your teachings will live on
  3. Robert Humphries here too.We have used Robert for many many years, first with our Afghans now with our Ibizans and racing Greyhounds. I do know of someone who flies his dogs up from Melbourne to have Robert look at his dogs.Wouldn't use anyone else.Robert is fully qualified to do people as well. His brother is a human chiro and his father used to do horses. Be very care full who you use, there are a lot of 'chiro's ' out there who can do more harm than good Good luck ,hope you, hope you get Marshall back to his normal happy self Roberts phone is 0418730189
  4. Hi Storm, Robert Humphries is his name. His phone number is 0418730189. We have used him for years for our show dogs and now for our Greyhounds. There is also Rowan Kilmartin who I have heard is very good as well.He is aT Ormeau on the Gold Coast. His number is 5546 6756.Good luck with your little one. Regards Marion
  5. The tick collars are very poisonous. We had a dog in the kennels at Christmas time who pulled off a Preventic collar off his mate and chewed it to pieces. We rushed him to the vet when we found him he was very sleepy by this time ,taking all the pieces of collar with us.The vet didn't think he had swallowed too much after trying to piece the collar together, but kept him in overnight anyway to be sure. He was treated with activated charcoal and had to have injections ,can't remember what that was,but apparentley was fit and well by 6pm and drove everyone mad with his barking, they were glad to get rid of him the next morning.Be very carfull if you decide to go with the tick collars. We do have a lot of clients who use Prban, although expensive seem to work very well with no side affects. But as always, talk to your vet first. I personaly don't like or use chemicals on my own dogs, relying on natural methods.I put homeopathic Ledum in their water and spray them with a lemon rinse.this has to be done daily, but it is worth is knowing I am not putting chemicals in/on my dogs.
  6. Hi Greenie, I have used brewers yeast in my dogs food for years and never have a flea problem and for a lot of those years I had Afghans. The smell of the brewers yeast is supposed to come out through the skin, although you wouldn't be able to smell it. Brewers yeast can make some dogs itchy,so you would have to watch out for that,it has never bothered any of mine Just be very carefull if using Pennyroyal on pregnant bitches,it can cause abortions.
  7. It's great what going back to nature can do for the health of a dog.Hope lots of people read this and take notice.
  8. Hi , I don't know anything about copra, but google 'virgin coconut oil' and read about all the health benefits of coconut oil, these would also apply to dogs as well.It is wonderful stuff. My dogs have a dessertspoon of the oil about three times a week,.Your dogs would certainly benefit from having this oil, I am sure you would see a difference in their skin and coat
  9. My Afghans and Ibizans have cought bunnies and eaten the lot, maybe a bit of fur left sometimes.Wish I could breed my own for the dogs, but living in Queensland there's huge fines if you are caught keeping them.
  10. Hi , I've been feeding my Afghans and now my Ibizans raw for over 25years and wouldn't feed anyother way.I started after reading a book by Juliette de Bairacli Levy 'The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat' who is known as the grandmother of Natural Rearing.I still use her way of feeding ,which involves feeding rolled oats and barley plus honey, yoghurt wheat germ, raw eggs, raw goats milk[or cows milk] and fruit in the mornings and raw meat[preferably not minced] with raw pulverized vegies,[mostly green] offal twice a week plus suppliments of kelp, brewers yeast[helps keep fleas away] oil.and plenty of raw meaty bones, some days they will just have big raw meat bones. This is fed 5 days a week,on the 6th day I feed fish or cottage cheese with vegies and the 7th day is a fast day. This is my basic diet. None of my dogs have ever tasted dry food or any other commercial pet food I love this way of feeding my dogs and they love it just as much and I will be ever thankfull to Juliette for writing these books.Another book which is a must is 'Let's have healthy dogs' by Helen Cramer Marion
