  1. I have approx 1/2 bag senior Sunday pets - free to good home.

Pick up Sydney inner west. (Marrickville/newtown)

Why are you giving away 1/2 a bag of senior Sunday pets? Is your dog not doing so well on it?

I have tried and tried - he's taken to licking anything remotely yummy off the kibble and spitting it out across the kitchen. Sick of stepping on it...

What a bummer. I used to live in Bondi, but I'm in the upper North Shore now. My nieces live in Newtown though, but they are such busy girls. :(

  2. Does anyone have a good understanding of the ingredients in pet food? I am a bit concerned about the Meat & Bone Meal in the Sunday Pets dog food. According to a lot of information on the Internet, meat and bone meal are supposed to be by-products. My dog is in the transition from Artemis grain free to Sunday Pets grain free at the moment and I was thinking of getting the Deliganics Senior for him, until I noticed that all of the Sunday Pets food contain Meat & Bone Meal. The Deliganics is not grain free as it contains barley. Is 27% ground barley too high?

    Thanks :)

  3. I saw a new grain free food just brought into the country this week from NZ called Sunday Pets.

The ingredients look better (in my personal criteria) than anything I have seen out on the market in dry foods. 79% Meat, then veggies, green lipped muscle, manuka honey and apple cider vinegar etc etc . (ingredients vary between the different types they make)

The baking method of preparation apparently is far better than the high temperature and steaming that nearly all kibbles have. It keeps in more nutrition and being from NZ means that it can be imported in, as opposed to some OS foods that don't meet the AQIS (?) guidelines for temperature and processing. One of the best things though, is it comes in little weet-bix shaped biscuits that are are about as big as 5 or so normal sized kibble so that the dog can't inhale like most kibbles. The consistency is like a weet-bix but more dense.

I am probably a knuckle-head but I couldn't resist buying a bag to transition from the USA made TOTW I normally feed my dog on but I was very impressed with what I have read about it!!! It costs around $120 for around 12kg so it is at the upper end of market but around the same as most of the so-called super premium kibbles.

They also do a puppy food especially for large/giant breeds. I think they do an Adult Large/giant breed formula but those interested will need to check.

Anyway, I will start the transition tomorrow and see how it goes, I gave Ronin one bikkie tonight as a treat, and he took it to his mat like he does with special food (like a bone) from his bowl. He seemed to enjoy crunching it, but then again he really does love his food :D

Oh, and any info above was basically extrapolated from their website and packaging and may contain heaps of errors or inaccuracies on my part LOL :)

I am hoping that they bring out a fish based version in the future. I can't believe that I am excited about a new dog food... I think I need to get out more

How did your dog go as far as stool is concerned? I'm feeding my dog Artemis grain free at the moment and the Crude Protein min 24% Crude Fat, min 14%. I'd like to feed Sunday Pets grain free but I'm a bit concerned about the high protein 39%. I fed him ZiwiPeak before and he was doing fine for a few months then all of the sudden he had bad diarrohea. He couldn't tollerate Evo from the word go. He was diagnose with colitis so I have always switched him slowly between two and three weeks. I'm thinking of Sunday Pets Deliganics Senior which contains Crude Protein 28%, Crude Fat 5%, but it's not grain free :( as it contains ground barley. Other than that all the ingredients look pretty good. My dog is blind and he is 9, very low activity, hence I'm looking at the senior range. Please keep us posted regarding your dog's stool. Thanks

  4. Slightly off topic but there has been some serious health concerns raised in the US by the FDA relating to Chicken Jerky Strips made in China. There is an article on the dog food analysis site. I personally avoid any products made in China.

I totally agree with you there. I always made sure that I don't buy products from China

  5. Slippery Elm Bark is good...

For possible IBS - Protexin is great, as is adding some Psyllium Husks to food daily.

I take slippery Elm bark myself as I get a lot of gas and acid reflux. I'm going to give it to my dog too. Is it best to give before food or can I mix it with his food?

Yeah, won't stop the runs but hopefully will help make the gut more tolerable to upsets in the long run. I will be staying away from all food with gluten for her now. Not sure about slippery Elm but I was under the impression you just add to food. Someone on here should be able to let us know.

I use the chewable form and I just put it on the floor to see if my dog would eat it. He sure did lol, he chewed it up but the powder got stuck between his teeth as it does with mine. I guess he can share mine then.

  7. My dog is having the same issue lately but also passing blood, he has bad colitis all the tests came back normal so I'm guessing it's his food allergies playing up .

Last Saturday, my dog had pretty bad diarrohea. Around midnight, he was passing so much blood that it really scared me. Then again at about 2.30am. He didn't even make it to the dog door on time and it was all over the living room floor. The smell was terrible and the amount of fresh blood really frightened me. I couldn't sleep all night as I had to keep an eye on him. At 8:00 am he went again, but nothing except fresh blood. It was a Sunday and luckily the vet was open between 10-12pm. I called the vet and I requested for my dog to be put on a drip right away. However, after taking him there, the vet said to give him the WD prescription diet and antibiotics. At that stage, he didn't need to be on a drip as he was only a little dehydrated and didn’t have a fever. Thank God, he's back to normal now. This happened to him once before about two years ago when he had to be on a drip overnight because he was pretty dehydrated and had a fever. He was diagnosed with colitis. I'm guessing this time it was the same as before and it could be food allergies playing up. It could be the kangaroo jerky or something. The thought of losing him that night tears me apart.

Btw, I have been giving him protexin for years now. It's a good thing but it won't stop your dog from having a diarrohea.

  8. Hi, does anyone know what this might be? It's located on both of his elbows. The one on the right is not too bad, but I can see a few black spots appearing. I only noticed it today. He has had this for a few years now but it was just a bit of dry skin, it wasn't this red and it didn't have the black spots either. It doesn't bother him, but it looks bigger than before. I'm concernd about the black spots as I've never seen them before.

    Thanks

  9. Hi Sheena, didn't know you could do that. It's a good idea. My dog used to weigh 12-13kg and I've been giving him Interceptor 11-22kg up till now. He is 10kg and has been stable for the last 2 yrs, but I haven't reduced to smaller dose. I was thinking of giving him interceptor Spectrum for small dogs 4.5-11kg insteads of 11-22kg. I called the Vet and he said it was ok.

  10. Hi, has anyone ordered from this website before? My linkThe prices for flea and worm control are cheaper than "Priceless pets" Postage is a bit more but it works out cheaper if you buy up to a year's worth or more.I use Advantage Dog 10-25kg (Red, 6 pack) on my dog and the difference in price is $4.05. For worming I use Interceptor CHEWABLE Yellow MEDIUM (11-22kg) 6 tablets. The difference in price is not that much at .61cent. I also compared Advantix (6 Doses) For Dogs 10 - 25 kg, the difference is $1.37. You need to compare the price in total including postage whether it's worth ordering from them or not.

  11. I add a bit of neem oil to dogs shampoo when I bath my dog. I pour the shampoo in to my hand and just add a bit of neem oil. You might not like the smell but you won't need conditioner afterwards. His long white fur feels like soft cotton balls. I even use it myself in my shampoo and yes, you smell like garlic if you add too much. I order from www.neemoil.com.au

  12. Sardines are the best choice in canned fish because of the Omega-3s they supply, and because they don’t have the heavy load of contaminants carried by larger fish. I give my dog Brunswik brand, sardines in water without salt or flavour added. Sardines in olive oil are good too, but the extra calories they add must be considered in the total diet. Any of you notice that your dog(s) have beautiful shiny coat from feeding sardines?

  13. I always use "Jalna" brand fat free, natural yogurt for myself and my dog. As for me, I mix it with Manuka honey but I wouldn't mix sweetener if you give it to your dog. Jalna fat free yogurt contains probiotics, no gluten, no cane sugar/Low G.I., no artificial sweeteners, no gelatines, no thickeners & food acids, no preservatives. Here's the website Yalna yogurt

  14. My dog has had Innova, Eagle Pack Holistic, Ziwi Peak which was an excellent food. He's on Innova again and when this bag of Innova runs out I will get him Orijen for a change. He did well on Eagle Pack, but I've read some negative things about "beet pulp" that's why I put him back on Innova for now.

  15. I have used dry and sometimes canned Ziw Peak on my dog. I fed the dry one in the morning and Eagle Pack Holistic in the evening. His poo was a bit soft with Ziwi Peak dry but it wasn't too bad. But till about over a month ago I think it was this particular bag it gave him diarrhoea. Ziwi peak asked me to return the bag as they wanted to analyse that particular bag. I told them that the bag had an awful strong smell compared to others in the past. Other than that, I think he did well as his coat was so shiny. So I would say it was just that bag.
