  1. I'm aware that you know the difference, africandreams. My comments were about those who were suggesting their very nice local vets when what you need is the opinion of a specialist vet team who have the necessary imaging equipment at their disposal. Bit rough. OP says they're relocating to Melbourne. Dog has history of lameness. The vet I recommended specialises in lameness and might give the OP somewhere to start, whereas vets and specialists consulted up to this point have not been open to alternatives. Plus given the relocation, they will need a decent GP vet anyway. No need to be so dismissive eta: local vets can refer to specialists in any case.
  2. I've replied to that thread Leah82, sounds good. I am quite behind on the games and have been down with a cold all week (and in very poor humour, so no training) but am happy with how it's going so far, and I know there is heaps of time to catch up. My biggest challenge is playing in different locations. With the ordinary weather lately, it's been really hard getting out of the house so I have mostly only done the games inside and some in the yard. I have played some of the active ones down at the sheep paddock which is quite a distracting environment for a working kelpie, but she has been awesome :D
  3. Yes, I am in! I'd like to do some of the games that need two people i.e. restrained recalls, go see etc. Thisbe will be delighted to meet some new people!
  4. Highly recommend Malcolm Ware at The Vet Practice in South Morang and Whittlesea.
  5. I have classes in the morning of the 9th too but afternoon is looking good. I am a bit behind on the games - have played most of them except restrained recalls at least once, but only at home. Planning to take them on the road once the days get longer.
  6. This is hilarious! And this is pure gold. I reckon I'd go for the MnMs a few times, then chuck a giant hissy fit...oh, I sound like Thisbe....
  7. I know, I know. I will try to be stronger next time. Nice work.
  8. Ha ha, at last you know there is value for the crate! I was just shamelessly manipulated into another training session - Thisbe has spent most of the last hour hanging out in the "training room" - the little area of my lounge where the fun stuff lives (i.e. the crate). She did a bit of yer in yer out on her own, then stared at the treats, then the toys, then me, then wandered around for a while before starting it all again. I probably should have waited her out or put her to bed but I have been neglecting her the last two days - she really likes these games!
  9. Ha ha. Oh dear. I have given up trying to get my parents to help me with training when I visit - just does not work! Kids in the Hall was fun today - used a soft crate as my other person and watched it go flying backwards on the send back on quite a few occasions. Didn't seem to worry T at all, super drive in and out. I used toys to start with, then food, then back to toys and discovered that she is reluctant to go back to playing with toys once food has been used - something to work on.
  10. T seems like a less intense version of Em - she is either a perpetual motion machine, or asleep. Her favourite "I am relaxing" pose is flat on her side, but she is anything but relaxed when there! But we'll get there. She eventually lay down and had a sleep at the sheepdog workshop on the weekend, that was a huge step. I am finding it really easy working the games into everyday life too - it all just comes so naturally i.e. collar grabs during a game of fetch, call once when I need to know where T is in the house, RZ when walking out around the sheep paddock.
  11. Oh dear. Del had much the same reaction as you, I guess. Great pic. Worked from home today so got to catch up on the stuff I didn't get around to last week. Crate Games no issue, took less than 5 mins to get to stage 3 so will add higher distractions next time. RZ also no issue as we've done a fair bit of this stuff already in the Silvia Trkman puppy course. Managed to train my older dog with Thiz in a drop next to me and food on the ground so I think IYC is making an impact. The biggest challenge I've had so far is getting her to relax on her bed in the study. Took most of today before she would actually forget about the treats and snooze, there was lots of whinging and whining and leg kicking! As extinction bursts go, it was pretty tame, but took a long time! I thought she had figured it out earlier in the day but I noticed that she was staring at me using the mirrored door on the built in robes! Cheeky devil.
  12. Maybe we should pool resources and submit a DOL cat video for the next course  TSD - Em reminds me so much of Thisbe with that perch work, with the crazy circles and barking. Loonies! Love Dizzy's investigation of the perch, and later attempted stealing of the treat. Go cat go.
  13. All set up for Crate Games - but there is a small problem... Thisbe won't even go into the same room as the cat, so I'd better make sure the cat's out of the way when we start training!
  14. No issues with the collar grab game here, Thisbe as a pup used to back away from me when I leant over her so we'd already done a fair bit of work on that. Even managed to do some with her tugging as well. I'm doing one session of the new exercise in the evenings, one before work in the mornings and one when I get home, then onto the next exercise that evening. Now to keep the momentum going!
  15. Thisbe must know I signed up for this. For the first time ever, today she ran off when it was time to go home from the sheep. Usually I call the name of the dog whose turn it is to hop in the car. I said "Thisbe" and boom! Gone. I must admit when I did actually say "come" she came back like a rocket, but still. Naughty.
  16. I would never get one of those closed again. Look great though!
  17. I'm in as well, superminty too and thank heavens for tax deductions, especially so close to EOFY!
  18. Love the look of the Hurttas but they look way too narrow between the front legs for the kelpies
  19. Lol, it was soooo hard being the legs in that photo  I miss Mick, what a great little bundle of fun. I love how Thisbe is looking at him in that pic. I will always have spare ear warmers for you inevitablue. And congratulations on your title! My retire before the outrun came about because as we walked into the ring, they were setting the sheep and Cash was indicating he wanted to go anti-clockwise, so that's the side I set him up on. Generally ensures a nice outrun. When I sent him, he tried to cross and go clockwise. 4 times! I called him off each time and re-set him but refused to let him change sides. Once he gets away with a cross, he is usually a right tool the rest of the run and I wasn't interested in playing that game, so called it and walked out! The crowd went wild
  20. Well done on your passes PME. Cash had a 50/50 weekend - each class he was entered in, he got one pass, and was retired on or before the outrun on the other. He was a wee bit obnoxious! But did manage to finish off his started A cattle title, get a pass towards his championship with a nice advanced A pass and got his first inter B ducks pass. Those all added up to give him the most versatile over three stock types award. He was then a right tool setting sheep for B course, ha ha. Left his brain somewhere in the trial ring I think.
  21. Training never ends  Just tests tomorrow, starting at 9:30.
  22. Novice A duck pass for Cash today. I believe this is the first pass in Novice nationwide. It was certainly the first run and pass in Vic (on any course/stock type). Bombed out a bit in Advanced A sheep BUT got a really nice lift/fetch and a good first half. As in I didn't yell at him for the first half! That was a vast improvement on the last trial It all fell down on the cross drive - got the turn and got them through the panels but then I could not convince him to walk up on the heads, he kept sliding off clockwise and turning the sheep off course. So guess what we will be working on for the next few weeks!
  23. Glad the sheep were ok. The ones we had on Wednesday didn't drive at all! Didn't help that I was the first and third competitor, lol.
  24. That's fantastic, Superminty! I agree! Another thing my vet recommends is limited, if any, use of NSAIDs - which is referenced in the article.
  25. Congrats to both of you! Merit award is a nice touch PME - onwards and upwards :-) Well done on your first Inter pass piper, and started B ducks. And a 98 with Aretha is amazing! Glad you weren't at the trial on Wed - worst runs I've had for a while with Cash just losing all semblance of obedience thanks to exciting sheep and his girlfriend being in season. I did way too much shouting to no avail
